@@dan9809 Yeah exactly you get it! Same thing with floors as Im told. If you make them out of paper or jello instead of wood or concrete everyone just falls through. And furthermore (as I understand) even if you do build the floors out of concrete and rebar, if the rest of the building is made out of popsicle sticks and peanut butter the whole thing is liable to collapse before they even finish pouring the floors! People don’t realize, but the usefulness of floors can be very contextual like that. And don’t get me started on unloaded guns. Of course the lanyard knot in particular is often enough used for non load bearing purposes such as lanyards and key rings. But if you are using it for a tire swing for example that’s good, but you should indeed make sure the branch will hold. And for that matter, the rope itself. As you should regardless of the knots used. Because those factors don’t really have much to do with the knot. And if the branch seems too thin, don’t try reinforcing it with popsicle sticks and peanut butter either. I found out the hard way that if you do that, the branch just gets covered in squirrels. They eat the peanut butter away, chew up the sticks (18 months sucking on rocket pops and all of my hard work right down the drain… live and learn I guess) and puts even more weight on the branch (what with all the squirrels and all).
That's great thanks for sharing! Its half tie let's say. Cause if it is loose it will tend to go to it's original shape so it will untie. Good for cases which there will be continuous load on this tie.
The goal of this tying method is so you can attach something to the ring (ie. a carabiner). So if the ring has something attached to it, the knot will never be able to come undone (the attached item making it impossible to untie itself).
"Today we are going to be learning about the rope and ring knot, now personally I've done a lot of knots in my time and some definitely work better than others but let me tell you one thing my dad always said, a good knot is a simple knot and thats good, so now let me show you to do the rope and ring knot and don't forget to like and subscibe as it helps the channel and shout out to all our friends over at raid shadow legends for sponsoring another great quick knot video"
Girth hitch. Generally fine to use, but it does reduce strength by up to 50% compared to other ways of tying which can take the full force on the two strands as if they were separate. If you look at the rope, it looks like you have two lines of rope to carry pulling force BUT the front loop carries (near) the full load (hence 50% loss). The loop closest to the camera is the weakpoint. Again, fine for most uses, but it's not optimal compared to alternatives in many cases.
Practice is what makes you know the knot. Practice aswell as practical use cases. Then after a while you start to understand the knot. Once you understand multiple knots you get to find that all knots are similar
