What I love about your videos is that every project is a completely new concept invented by you and not just a rehash howto taken from an existing idea, and it's very clear you put a lot of time into inventing and brainstorming. This project is amazing.
Thanks Troy, I really appreciate you thought filled comment. True, I not only spend time thinking of original ideas and sourcing accesable materials, but also building the sets unique for each prop. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment on my videos.
Wait a minute, you mean to tell me there's NO UV painting involved.... are you feeling alright bud? I'm worried about you.
Believe me Rick Fipps, I was tempted! Filming UV is always a challenge, so this was a nice change for me... not to say that it can't be used with great results. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Happy almost Halloween. We've been anxiously awaiting your return. Going to bed now but will check out the video in the morning. Super excited to see a video pop up from you! 🎃
Hollywood Haunter commenting on Halloween DIY? icon meets icon, haha. love you guys!
As alway, thanks HH!
Hollywood Hunter was instrumental in giving me some tips and support when I first started, they are great people. "Icon meets icon"... love it, what a wonderful compliment!
Love your videos so much thank-you
Thanks Terese! What a lovely thing to say, I really appreciate it.
Always so creative and fun!!! How cool you still have your monster making set from your childhood. Loved how you pieced together all the different parts to create your creatures. The reveals are always our favorite as we love the scenes you come up with.
Thanks Hollywood Haunter for your continued interest and support. It is much appreciated!
HI HH!

@@TroyKristoffer Hey Troy
Genius Paul! Very well done! They all look great! I guess I'll be looking for cat toys tomorrow.lol
As always, thanks CFAO for your comments and gentle nudges. Last minute tech problems nearly kept me from making my August deadline!
Oh man what a great treat!. It's 2 am and I got to watch this!
I hope that your eyes are not too bloodshot this morning. Thanks for your dedication!
Fishing lures with the nail, squishing rubber hand puppets to reshape... these are all amazing ideas!!! Thank you!
Some fun ideas to get that imagination flowing. Thanks for the great comment and for watching Puppets by Arlee! P.S. I have found that Walmart has the best selecting of faux fishing bait.
🎶Its the most wonderful time….of the year!
Yes wrllovemen I agree... well once we get a little fall in the air.
Very creative!! Always appreciate your extremely detailed instructions. I know you put in ALOT of time testing out each project. Thank you!!! 👻
Thanks Laura, you are very perceptive and I appreciate your appreciation!
I've been eagerly awaiting your return, time to put that cage collection to use
and, being a cat owner, I already have the bits to do this
Lily won't mind.... much
LOL. Oh great, now I'll have Lily mad at me!! Cages were hard to find... you are that many steps ahead on this build. Have fun and sorry Lilly!
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms not to worry, she's a forgiving soul
Love it ! Simple easy inexpensive excellent ideas
I run a seasonal Haunted attraction and had something similar to these a few years back using those old round toys that jiggled (not sure what exactly they were though) I put faux fur fabric and rubber snakes as tentacles and put them in a bird cage. The jiggle toys were very active and would bash to the sides of the cage and get that thing swinging. I had to use a small speaker nearby however because the jiggle toy was so loud with a buzzing.😁
Hi Allirog, sound like great minds think alike. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Always glad to see you show back up for the season!
Thanks G K for the nice comment, they go a long way.
Maybe I can actually make this. My cat's get to play with the cat toy first. 😆.thanks for this tut. You always explain it so well.
Hi Ash, I hope that you are able to give it a try. If you do, let me know how it works out and thanks for taking the time to comment.
You have the coolest ideas of anyone on RUclips. I always love when I see a new video of yours. You are a clever fella!!! Happy Halloween 🎃
Thanks Beth, I just released a new video. Thanks for your support and comment.
So cute, great idea 🧡🤎💛🍁🍂

Great tutorial!! Ty for such a fun spooky idea!!
You bet heyshellierae, you are very welcome. Spooky is what I always aim for, I appreciate the compliment.
Wow... this is another awesome tutorial. I'm going to give this a try. I built your "Rat in a Cake" prop and it turned out great. Thank you for sharing.
Hey rangerrixx, so glad that you are inspired to give it a try. I would love to see a photo of how your creature turns out! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to write this nice comment.
I’ve missed these videos.
Thanks Everfree Brumby, it was a tuff summer with many things delaying me. Thanks for hanging in there, for your support and the nice comment.
Brilliant! You make it seem so easy. Thanks for putting this together, as always your videos are mesmerizing!🧡🖤🧡
Thanks MrsC B, I am so glad that you enjoy them. Thanks for watching and for the very nice comment.
I had 12vdc power speakers that were loud and clear for only 15 dollars NEW (used for CB radios) but that shut off after 10 minutes of no sound for "saving power". Searching the internet I found CB guys that also hated that feature and by passed it by adding a 10k resistor to short the timing capacitor. It was a simple 5 second soldering job. Maybe you can find an electronics guy that can identify the same thing on the circuit board of the cat toys. That would sure make all the work you do on these worth it. Shutting off after a few minutes is a deal breaker for a lot of people no mater how cool these look. One hack way to solve this may be to connect a tiny relay to the motor and the reset button wires so when the motor turns on it also is constantly closing the reset circuit. This may make it stay on continuously because it is constantly being reset.
Thanks J C for this information that for some will be helpful. For others, if there should be a product that might be a good substitute with a longer play time, I will post an update.
Sometimes my videos help to spark the imagination of the viewer. This allows them to think of ways that they can make it within the bounds of their abilities, resources and purpose.
Paul, it's always a good day when a new HALLOWEEN HOW-TO hits RUclips. As usual, great video, very informative. Let's talk a minute about the "Witch's Bookcase", there must be 2 or 3 future HALLOWEEN HOW-TO projects on that baby. One question, seeing as the cat toy movement is random, and they eventually shut off after awhile, how do you sync the creepy creatures sound bytes.
Hi Steb, great questions. As far as the "Witches Bookcase", on the top left shelf is a single eye that would look right and left, while the eye lid would move slightly up and down. Animated by a rotating irregular cam, the movement was somewhat random. I have thought of doing a video to recreate the "Animated Watchful Eye" sitting on a closed book with the motor hidden inside the book.
As far as the soundbites synced to the movement of the creatures, that was simply done in post editing. In real life, I would sugest some sections of small linked metal chains, a loose cage door and/or a small hanging lock on the cage that would shake, rattle and make noise when the creature moves. That could be equally effective. Thanks for your interest and for watching!
Good to see you back for the spooky season!
Thanks Matthew, I appreciate that. Due to reasons beyond my control this season will not see as many videos from me, my appologies.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms No worries, mate!
I still have my mini dragons set. :)
Now those were great toys and yes I did burn my fingers a time or two... then lesson was learned! Thanks for the comment Melanie!
I love these! It would be a great project to do with kids. I can't wait to make my own creepy creature 👾🧡
I agree, great project to bring kids and adults together. Thanks Sacrosby for your continued interest and support!
Fantastic video very creative. I wonder if anyone has any ideas to keep these things running or they have them running regularly versus having to press a button every 10 to 15 minutes.
Great question. That was my concern too, so I looked high and low for longer playing toy, but to no avail. If I or anyone else finds a solution, I will post it in the description of the video. Thanks Echo Papa for taking the time to watch and comment!
I made one use a handheld back massager, inside my ice chest mimic.
Love your projects! Would you be interested in making a tutorial for a haunted broomstick? I'd love to learn how to make one of those.
Hmmm, I will have to think about that one and see what I can conjure up! Thanks for the great comment and idea.
Yay! You're back!
Yes... barely! Thanks for watching Patrick.
Welcome back 🎃
Thanks 1Jotun, it's good to be back with all of the nice comments and appreciation.
They are cool
Thanks Kathy. I don't do guts and gore, so I am always trying to come up with fun "spooky" stuff. Glad you like!
Awesome just in time
It's amazing how Halloween always comes around so fast! Thanks Omar for watching and commenting.
So glad you are back before Halloween with more great ideas. As always so creative and the tutorial is so clear and easy to follow. These creepy, fun creatures are easy enough that even someone starting out can do it. Thanks again and keep the great videos coming
Thanks Arlen. Your comments are always very complimentary and thoughtful, they are greatly appreciated.
Been waiting patiently for your next DIY video. And my friend you did not disappoint. These are pretty damn cool and very simple to make.
Thanks Joey, I am so glad that you like and appreciate this video. I would love to see what creepy creature you come up with... have fun making it!
he is soo cool
Thanks M Williams, I 'm glad you think so. Thanks for the compliment.
I like the creepy arm shadow on the wall. Please tell me your going to do a video on how you did that.
Well CFAO, that video is on the docket for this month. Thanks for noticing!
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms of course I notice.lol can I take a guess?
Yaaaaaassss it's that time of year again!!! (Happy dances)
Your enthusiasm AresLeviathan is fantastic. Thanks for such a great compliment.
AH!! And I thought Creepy Crawlers were cool. My childhood was severely lacking Mini-Dragons. 😮💨
This is... This is too ridiculous. I don't care how little space I have at my disposal, I need to do this one! lol
I had Creepy Crawlers too... talk about hours of fun! Thanks Bob for you comments, I always enjoy hearing from you.
Love these 🤗❤️
Hi Joan, I hope that you are doing well. I love that you love them!
That's a Awesome Idea!!!! Thanks so much for the Great Info!!!!! I can't wait tom try them!!!!! 😮👍😎💀🎃🤘
Thanks Wolfman, let me know how yours turns out. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment... love your excitement for this prop.
I can't believe I missed this when it came out... 10 months ago.. Dang! What a great idea. As usual. I have said it before. I really like your concepts and the LACK of gore. it fits in with how we do things. How did you get the sounds that you imbedding in the video. That really sells it. now how to get the sounds to play on each individual prop... any ideas? Thanks for making and sharing such great content. Wish you the best!
Thanks Joe. Tech is not my field of expertise, but I would say an MP3 player with a built in speaker or speaker attachment, with the sound effect downloaded and then played back as a loop. Hope that helps and thanks for asking.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms Thanks for the input. Sounds reasonable.
Very cool!! Btw I ordered the SmartyKat toy and according to its Q&As it can be set to turn off in up to 2 hours (not just 15 min)
Hi Eric, thanks for watching and thanks for the information. Can you please include more information on the 15 minute override option on the SmartyKat toy? I had called the company and was told otherwise, if this is an option I would like to include it in the discription of the video. Thanks!
Hey! Thanks for this nice content! Nice to see you back again! I am doing a home made dark ride, and most of the decoration and props will be from this channel! Thanks!
Hi Luki Magic, that's fantastic! What are you using as a ride mechanism or will it be a walk-through? I would love to see some pictures of it, thanks for the nice comment.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms The car will have sensors that will follow a line on the ground, that is, a sensor that follows lines. I hope to finish the ride for this Halloween, when I finish it I will contact you and send you some photos. Thank you very much for your interest!
@@lukimagic7030 WOW, impressive! I will look forward to seeing the photos.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms thanks!
This is awesome!
What did you do to synchronize the sounds?
Hi Gabriel, thanks for asking. The sound effects were actually added after the fact when I edited the video. I will be adding some small lose chains and a small metal lock to the cages for Halloween, that way when the creature moves it will also make the cage rattle. Next best thing and an easy add. Thanks also for watching.
Great to see a video from you... it's been a while. So were the sound effects coming from the cat toys or added in editing? Also, it seems like you have to manually go there and turn all the toys on again right? I think they can be hacked to be turned on from a switch.
Hey Ray great to hear from you and thanks for the questions. Yep, sound effects where added in editing. However, small linked metal chains, a loose cage door and/or a small hanging metal lock on the cage would shake and rattle making real life noises in sync with the creature's movement. That could be cool too.
I just heard from the manufacturer yesterday and they do not have a way to overide the auto shut-off. If you know of a way or find a similar product with a longer running time, please let me know and I can post in the description. In the meantime I am planning on having a caged creature in reserve that I can quickly swap out when one needs to be reset.
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms ... Well I would do my hack-the-toy method. I'd open it up and find the pushbutton, solder wires to the button and maybe even figure out the power situation so I don't need to open that toy up anymore to put batteries in it. Maybe I can short the button, and when power it applied the toy will do it's thing... once that's sorted out, I'd run the wires out of the toy, perhaps drill a small hole, and fish them through the prop to eventually find them outside the cage. Top: if I'm going to hang it, or Bottom: if I'm setting it on something... Either way, that's where I'd conceal a small connector so I can add my control/power wires at a later time. I'd do that to all of the props. Then I'd place the props in the scene where I wanted them... a sensor in the space could detect when the visitors entered the room and then a relay (or transistor) could turn them on... and to step it up a notch, if you have a microcontroller, like Arduino, or a prop controller, you could sequence them and have it play the sound too.
@@raymitchell9736 Sounds great! You need to be my side-kick and do a companion video for the advanced prop builders. I would love to see the final results if you do all of the above. Now, can you override the auto turn off of the chair/back massager that I used in the 'Breathing Moving Grave Prop'?
@@HALLOWEENHOWTObySaulFilms Well, maybe you don't have to... most of the time you want the prop to come alive when a guest walks in... so you need a way to retrigger the prop... even if there's a shutoff inherent in the design, you "defeat" it by applying power when you want it to run, then you control how long it runs and then shut it down... that way you can restart it at any time on demand. It requires some form of hacking the product, but overall you get the result you want/need from it. Personally I like to design as much as I can so I can control those things... but I get it, it's easier to take what already does the action you want and repurpose it... like those cat toys. And yes, I think it would be fun to collaborate on a project like that where I take the prop you make and do an advanced treatment on it, like we're talking about here.
I really love these but…
I’d want them to run for longer than 15 minutes at a time. I can’t seem to find any similar toys that don’t have an automatic shut off after 15-20 minutes.
Do you know if there’s either a way to adjust the automatic shut off (even if it means diving into the guts of the toy) or of any toy that runs for say 3-4 hours (or doesn’t even have an automatic shut off)?
Thanks for asking Brian, the short running time was my biggest concern. I have an email into the companies to see if there is an override option. Please let me know if there is a product out there that delivers a longer play time, and I will post in the comments. I plan to have a couple caged creatures in reserve, so that I can quickly swap out a stopped one with a newly activated one.
Thanks for the followup! I've been looking but haven't found anything yet. I suspect most of them are controlled with a programmed microchip which would be very difficult to try to reprogram or hack. However, I have gotten some input about building a custom device from scratch (though that's probably more in-depth than most folks might want to take on). I'll do some prototyping and see how it goes in the meantime. I'll let you know how it goes!
That would be great Brian, thanks. Yes, the trick can be making the prop accessable both from available materials as well as one's ability. Just the same, I am very curious to see what you come up with.
No way!!!!
Sorry just excited to see a new video.
