I am currently working on a crypt prop of the past unfortunate grooms of Melanie Ravenswood. One of the crypts will have a skeleton arm reaching out with a wedding ring in hand and this prop mechanism would just be perfect for it!

Frikin' brilliant Paul! Although, I may have missed it on the first viewing, but I saw no use of a electric massager in this build!? ;^) I love your innovative and "low-tech" solutions for creating organic movement and "greater than the sum of it's parts" effects. I'd still like to see you produce a lighting tutorial, as it's the set-dressing and mood lighting that really put your gags over the top! You are officially my favorite DIY haunter!

I love this idea and how fluid the movement of the arm is. I think I will have to figure out how to do this without the awl though as I plan on putting 10-15 arms through a pallet wall I am creating in my haunt. The arms will be moving in a small hallway that people have to walk past along with an ankle tickler. So, I am worried about people bumping into them when the scare happens and jarring them loose from the awl.
Maybe an oversized carriage bolt with jam nuts on top and bottom and washers to keep it in place, but allow for the same fluid motions?... hmmm

I remember watching this last year, but I really enjoyed watching again! I love the motion of the spooky arms, and how well you make the props and the environment surrounding the props! I’m guessing I’m not the only one who’d love to see your home or pro haunt- whatever you do... do you make a walkthrough, or have you made them in the past?

Also, I’ve always run into issues with black light paint- either I have to paint 10 coats, or it doesn’t show up as effectively as I’d like- would you ever think about making a black light prop painting tutorial- the different methods & types you use?

Thanks Kerri. My sister and I did big elaborate haunts at our parent's house for 15 years, with the local news coming out the night before to give the local Halloween night weather forecast. ... that was years ago. Today I have scaled way back and with Covid, I'm not even sure what Halloween night will look like at this point. But that has not stopped me from sharing some of our favorite props (taken out of storage and updated of course) from those glory years.

Hi Brian, thanks for asking. I have a variety of fluorescent/blacklight paints, from expensive to not and from acrylic to spray paint. I tend to base coat with the fluorescent spray paint and then paint in the dark (with a black light on) with all of my acrylic paints layed out and then go by their color & shade. I light the prop with fluorescent tube blacklights (18" to 4' long) from both above and below.
