Notice how many dash attacks he does, also you'll see him f-tilt to poke. You have to abuse your ranged options in this matchup. Retreating fair or spaced fair is very scary in the air for Pichu. Nair is almost unusable, except to punish a landing. Pivot cancel uptilt is actually really good too to catch short hop aerials and is mostly safe because of the added range from the PC. Downmash at the ledge will actually catch pichus recovery. I'm a Greninja main and my best friend is a Pichu main so I've put a full work week of time into this matchup.

It makes what Lea did all the more impressive that that one upsmash was one of the only ones in the entire series that was “wiffed”

Yeah he wasn't playing as clean as he normally does, looked like a different player from the Void at Genesis. He went for stuff that just flat didn't work and wasn't finishing a lot of his combos. He did also look like he lacked a lot of match-up experience or anticipation of Greninja's moves.

I'm watching these matches and I just think it's more people are unfamiliar with the matchup. A lot of backaway eat an f-smash too. Lea just seems to have really good fundamentals and that's what is showing more.
@@gludovic6437 That's the thing though, Japan tiering has always been fairly different from western tiers. I personally think a lot of the western players will get the match-up knowledge. Not saying Greninja isn't good, but I wouldn't say he's top 5 or even top 10 atm.
Keitaro: a character i didn't play at all was mid tier in the last game so going into this game again without putting time into him i can't imagine why japan thinks he's top tier. it bugs me when commentators talk about chracters they clearly have no knowledge about rather than just admitting they havent done thier research and don't know the chracter that well
Jordan Pacheco to be fair Gren isn’t that different. I think his combos are a bit worse, but he actually has kill power and that makes up for everything

Greninja has a lot of mix-ups. It's easy to be unpredictable. Almost all his moves, except maybe dair are pretty viable.
