Saw Social Distortion at the Cains. Rocked the rafters of the historical joint like no other. Old school real deal rock STAR. If a person ever gets a chance to see live you owe it to yourself to see an American original iconic band.
I love the "other California" Northern California....the beautiful one you don't hear enough about. Never thought I 'd see Mike Ness lacing up some gloves, great short video...I would like to see more.
He’s amazing. Though it didn’t stick, his words were part of what encouraged me to go to treatment before my life got any more out of control. I’m glad that I’m still alive to be able to listen to his voice.
@@michaelpieseeno8076 So let me get this straight...according to you...everything that Ness has lived through, overcame and accomplished in his life is now negated and he's reduced to a POS (in your opinion) because some drunk asshole stood in front of the stage shouting at Mike, taunting him and flipping him off and basically asking for what he got...a punch in the face. Hmmm...yea I'd like to see how you'd react if someone showed up at your home or work and started yelling profanities at you and flipping you off. I'm sure you would react just like Gandhi or Jesus...right? Yea right! Kettle calling the pot black man. Look in the mirror.
This is the kind of man I aspire to be. I hope that my musical career makes it somewhere, social distortion being one of my influences, but Mike just seems so tell it as it is and down to earth. The rock n roll ego never seemed to hit him. I hope that no matter how high or low my life gets, I never lose sight of the best parts of the world, not just Hollywood parties
Mike ness is something special for our generation. A reminder of how to experience life...a true giant of our time. Irreplaceable and a dying breed. Hope to see him at least one more time
Man i love Mike's whole ethos. Old time Americana check, boxing check, lowriders check, blue collar farm work ethic check. Get well Mike! We need more of this!
Mike Ness is the reason why I fell in love with punk rock, country music, classic and late 90's-2000's diesel trucks, hard work, bull riding, and the little things out there.
This was an excellent piece of film. Thank you for this, from someone who has been a long time fan of Mike's. Really entertaining for me to see him living life off stage.
get well Mike you are an inspiration for many, i remember listening SD in many shit moments being young and felt like a old friend or figure talking to me, hope the best for you and your family, you are a survivor and a warrior ✊
thanks for a peek into your world. I love your band , been listing since 1982.one of first experiences w/ punk music. That first album was big in my High school 82 -1986.
Got to meet mike ness at sessions in Scott’s valley he was super nice I worked in the warehouse there I asked him to sign a piece of a box I cut off out of in the warehouse I asked him to sign it for my friend Brian in Santa Cruz he was so cool about it this video was rad
When I get the chance to I'm gonna make a documentary dedicated to this man! He is such a lovely human, my hero and my very first true love. I hope he continues this career right to his grave as long as it continues to make him happy. The Man, The Myth, The Legend, Mr. Michael Ness!
So true also for myself. My artist-self landed me in the psych wards because my dad ( god love him) was afraid that I had become an “artist”. It was my art and my friends on the same road who I listened to their music as I painted my way through the tunnel of bullshit. Still here at 67, still an artist, still listen to Social Distortion, still put my writing out to strangers and family, still fall down and still get up. I am totally unknown to the gears of fame and fortune as I mow lawns because I need money like everyone else and love my job, but my hopes are in my facebook posts where I swim with the stars. George Martin.
Mike Ness is definitely the guy you'd see in a old 1940's service station photo. Checking oil while the tank is filling up. 2 young boys walking away with those old bottles of Coca-Cola. You know the photos I'm talking about.
bob shorosky jr also another bit of information for ya, did you know, that Social D has never been on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine? That actually blows me away even more than the HOF induction...
I built a scupture (skullpture! Lol) that uses strings, how do I send it to Mike I've been listening and inspired by his music since somewhere between heaven and gell bought it off the shelf.
I'm picturing the charming strangeness that would be the Mike Ness we see in this video standing next to the scrawny young teenage Mike Ness we saw in the documentary 'Another State of Mind' sitting on his front steps playing an old acoustic guitar, awkwardly revealing his daily routine of watching bad TV-- and then shown later applying eyeliner whilst scrutinising himself in the mirror. Can you imagine the Mike Ness in this video, this big boxer, this serious looking masculine figure with such a calm demeanour interacting with THAT goofy kid? Imagine what young Mike would make of older Mike-- never mind how they'd react to each other. What a trip it would be. Just imagining what that footage would look like amuses me greatly.
@avalanchesoul Agreed. And I'd say it's pretty well common knowledge by now that Mike is a sober junkie. In fact I'd say it's an integral part of his back story and part of what makes him such a badass! He's currently celebrating 30 years sober! That's a lifetime for most of the youngsters out there dying in the streets from the opiate epidemic.
Sad that we now live in such a disposable, junk society. What he said about old, antique stuff is so truly spot on....a bygone era of true craftsmanship.
You are my inspiration for everything! and i just cant WAIT INTILL THE DAY I HAVE TE OPPORTUNITY TO SHAKE YOUR HAND! I WAS IN THE FRTONTLINE AT WEST COAST RIOT "2009" IN SWEDEN GOTHENBORG. AND MY BIGGEST WISH IN THE WORLD! Is to see you playing your sweet music at your home stage!! at your home plan, and hopefully i will get the overwhelming feeling shake your hand
I know "born to be down"is by "Local H" not "Social Distortion" just saying I learned of both hands about the same time! I think they are both Fantastic bands!🙋😎
Ben Johnson fought the french champ in front of both armies enormous proof in history that poets are also fighters thanks Mike for me for 30 yrs of music
To be honest, I think that Mike Ness would have made a great character in Sons of Anarchy/Mayans. A President of a distant California chapter, or at least Arizona, Nevada, or Oregon.
Its like heaering the inside of my head telling me. Youre doing the right thing son, fuck all them motherfuckers and just keep beeing you. I really needed this.
Didnt know he had property up north. I moved to the northern sticks and have an old tractor. Sold my 53 Chevy and started fresh. Still recording music and listening to old punk. The self sufficient greaser. 🇺🇸🐓🐖
Takes notes everyone, this man knows a thing or two about a thing or two.
"Having to fight for acceptance makes you find ways to express yourself."
- Mike Ness

First song I heard from this band was "I was wrong" I was hooked immediately! Around the same time as "born to be down"! Two of my favorite songs! 😎🙋
“So far away”, for me.
