  • Today we hunt $216 in mixed coins. I have had a number of requests to show more of the hunt rather than just the finds, so in this video I try to do a bit of both. Let me know in the comments if you prefer seeing videos more like this or more just "chop chop... let's get to the finds."

    The 1952-2002 Canadian cent is the "Jubilee" of the Queen, that means these commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Queen Elizabeth II accessing the throne after the reign of King George VI. Remember that the Queen first appeared on all 1953 coins in Canada ("Young Head" portrait until 1964). In 2002, the date has moved next to the Queen's portrait to put more enphasis on the 50-year mark. All 2002 denominations have this double-date on the obverse, and there is no date where it usually is, so if you look at the reverse, it appears odd, as a date-less coin! None is rare, and I'm used to see them. The Mint made millions for all denominations. However, they can be keepers for you. You can search for one of each denomination to put in your collection. As for most modern pennies, there are 2 varieties for the 2002. The steel-plated will have a "P" mint mark, and will be magnetic, and the zinc alloy 2002 pennies won't have the P and won't be magnetic. Look for the "P" and grab your magnet! The mint errors in these cases will be a magnetic with no P and a non magnetic with a P, but I don't think they exist, although we're never totally sure. The Mint stuck pennies in both alloys in large quantities until their end in 2012, so each year has at least 2 varieties...

      Where do you live? NO bank in Metro Atlanta (that I have found) has rolls of IKE Dollars. I ask probably 50 times a month across 20 different banks and branches and 1 out of those 50 times will they have even a 1-5 coins. They can't order them either. My best score was in Tennessee I stopped at a bank about a day after a gentlemen dropped off 47 Ikes. Got them all. Not 1 silver. Biggest Ike drop I have ever seen for me.

    I watched a few of your videos and notice that you set a bicentennial quarter to the side, but I did not see you setting bicentennial 50 cent pieces to the side. I know being a bicentennial coin doesn't really add any value, but I just remember them coming out as a child and collect them out of sentimental reasons I guess.

    • @GASilverHunter
      @GASilverHunter  10 месяцев назад +1

      I hang on to the quarters because they do sell pretty well and I collected them as a kid. High grade they can be worth a bit as well. You might find 4-20 bicentennial quarters in a box. The bicentennial half was massively overproduced. In a box of halves that has half the number of coins will produce 50-100 bicentennial halves so not much value there.

      @@GASilverHunter Thanks, good to know, Now I know why I was able to find so many. I use to go get every half they had at my local bank, but haven't had time to do that lately. Glad to see you can still stumble across some silver when you do. I have never ordered a box from my bank, just took what they had. I think $300 was the most coins they ever had in stock at one time.

    Got a $1000 bag of dimes from the bank. Went thru it and found two silvers. A 1957 and a 1963. But yea dimes are hard not my fav.

    • @GASilverHunter
      @GASilverHunter  10 месяцев назад

      Yeah... dimes are actually not too much work. Actually rerolling them is the hard part. Silver hunting them is fast... but when you go through $1000-$2000 in dimes and only find 1 silver it sucks because its like $2 in silver for all that time. I just still hunt them to change up the pace a little bit, but definitely not my fav.

    I see you counting the coins instead of just rolling after every roll should I be doing this and counting them (just don't wanna be doing anything wrong lol)

    • @GASilverHunter
      @GASilverHunter  10 месяцев назад

      Not counting them. I go through every coin for known errors or varieties… except for dimes. Only silver hunt dimes.

    • @M3Gam3rle2

      @@GASilverHunter No, I mean for rolling them.

    • @GASilverHunter
      @GASilverHunter  10 месяцев назад

      I actually have a coin counter that I dump all the coins in to be recounted. I have a video of the coin counter I use. It used to be $89 at Sams Club. ITs now like $229 everywhere. From there they go into the rolls and then they get weighed to ensure they are within spec. I don't hand count the coins.

  • @NicsHODLN
    @NicsHODLN 10 месяцев назад

    You don't look for the majority of errors. It's like you're going through the motions to make a video but don't actually care if you find anything but silver, Westpoints, and a couple of obvious errors. It's a waste of time IMO

    • @GASilverHunter
      @GASilverHunter  10 месяцев назад

      So what errors should I be looking for? My checklist is quite large.

    • @NicsHODLN
      @NicsHODLN 10 месяцев назад

      @@GASilverHunter unless you're going back after the video there's no way you can be looking for most errors at the speed you're throwing coins around. You didn't even look at both sides of some coins, you saw the date and mint mark and just tossed it aside.
      I look at every coin under the microscope not only for known errors but also for new ones. I just had 3/4 of a roll of 2022 D pennies with a huge die crack through Lincoln's forehead and on the top left of the shield. They're not very visible to the naked eye but clear under the microscope. They're only selling for $2-$3 but 40 of them add up. I would've thrown them out without inspecting each one under the microscope. In fact most of the errors I find are die cracks that I don't see initially.

    • @GASilverHunter
      @GASilverHunter  10 месяцев назад

      You are right... mostly. I do not scope every single coin. I look for common, known and accepted errors and errors that are actually worth my time to look for. A lot of the quarter die chips end up being $1-$5 and are relatively easy to spot. I have no desire to spend 5 hours scouring a box of quarters to find errors that are worth 28 cents or are actually unsellable. There are dozens and dozens of DDOs and DDRs on Half Dollars. Most of which are not recognized by most grading companies. Because of that... I don't look for them. The coins I do the deepest dive on is pennies, but even that I have slowed down on because I have probably hunted $1000 in pennies in the last year and found like 3 actual errors worth any sum of money (like the 1988 Transitional penny and I think a 1998 or 1999 Wide AM). Also most errors that require heavy magnification to see, typically don't sell well or don't sell for much. So while I do hunt for a fair number of errors, I do not search every coin hoping to discover a new error and then not be able to sell it. People also forget that a quarter that sells for $2 on ebay actually works out to a net loss after envelopes, shipping, fees, etc. Selling a whole roll might work out, but then shipping increases drastically and most people don't need a whole roll of the same error. But that's how I do it. Others like yourself may have the time and enjoy searching coins the way that you do. I do appreciate your comment and your clarification. Take Care.
