That the audience was so quiet for so long shows the impact and connection she has with her audience. Kasey's ability to lay her heart out on the stage is magical. Yes, it was her Dad on the slide guitar.
I read a comment about this.. the person commenting was at this performance and said the audience was absolutely blown away … people crying and spellbound. Absolutely amazing ❤
She had a hard time getting airtime early in her career-she ended up writing “Am I Not Pretty Enough “ in protest. I think perhaps she identifies through those early years.
Kaseys life has been very similar to Eminem’s… she had a lot of trouble getting radio to play her songs so she wrote Am I Not Pretty Enough …. She strays into other genres and has performed live with Australian hip hop and rock artists …live her performances are amazing ❤
That's exactly right I would guess most of her country music audience didn't even know the song. Filmed in a theatre everyone is seated. I think most are mesmerised by her performance! I think it's the best cover of ALL TIME
I am so glad that Kasey’s version is really starting to go viral globally. She deserves the recognition and also kudos to Eminem for his songwriting. ❤
She is a fan of Eminem- and had wanted to cover this song for awhile. I took lockdown to give her time to create this arrangement. So good. Eminem’s writing is enhanced by the slower pace and emotion- hits differently ❤❤
I had heard of Kasey Chambers and have listened to some of her music but nothing recently. This cover was absolutely amazing. Her stage presence and, to a lesser extent, her voice remind me of a great American vocalist named Beth Hart. There are very few vocalists who can pour so much of themselves into a song like Beth Hart. Kasey Chambers appears to be another such vocalist. They both deserve comparison to the great Janis Joplin.
I can't stop listening to this. It would be so hard vocally to perform this, and she smacked it out of park. I also heard Eminem enjoyed her rendition that he gave her permission to put it up on Spotify. She is a huge fan of Eminems. He is a great lyricist. This proves it.
I'm Australian. I used to be cynical of Casey Chambers. But I'm not anymore. There is sincerity in her voice. Two of her songs I like are The Captain and Am I Not Pretty Enough.
I love the three parts to this song. Kasey solo on Banjo then Kasey with an extra guitar and bach up vocals and finally the whole band. Kasey can be a bit hit and miss with her work but this one is genuine fire for me.😊
I think Kasey ultimately decides whether her work is hit or miss. Obviously we can all have an opinion whether it hits or misses with us but it’s not our work, it’s hers. I’m sure she hopes that people like all of what she puts out but I don’t think for one minute that it’s what motivates her.
Couldn’t agree more. John Farnham’s cover of Help is epic. Nothing like the original, hardly recognisable. Even John Lennon commented favourably on it.👍
This song absolutely means something to her. She was fantastic. It feels like a completely different song.❤ I’m going to have to check back in to see what song you were hinting at 😊 I have no idea and it’s going to drive me crazy till I figure it out 🤔😂
Australian musicians and bands are absolutely brilliant at creating new renditions of songs..... they RARELY just 'cover' a song, that sounds like the original song. One more example is John Farnham singing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, his version of 'The Beatles' classic 'Help'..... John Lennon literally 11 months before he was murdered got to hear Farnseys version and said that that was how HE wanted to perform the song... but the music label, film company etc. wanted an 'upbeat version'.... Farnseys version is truly one of the best songs you will hear in your life.
Thanks for doing this one! This gives me chills every single time I hear it. Kasey going from that resigned, laid back approach early in the song to the fighting emotion later is beyond powerful! 💪🏼 Kasey is very under appreciated and needs to be recognised more on an international scale! Kasey is a master of storytelling, conveying lyrics and emotion! She is an icon in the Australian music industry, mostly for country and folk, but has her own style and is never afraid to delve into something outside the box. She is just getting better as she gets older. I really hope that Eminem has seen this and appreciates that his song and lyrics were re-imagined in such a spectacular way. I guess he has as he did give her permission to upload to Spotify etc. Would really like to hear what he thought about it though. Where else would you see hand-banging with a banjo, pedal steel guitar and rock band together? Kasey started her solo commercial career around the same time as Eminem and she was a big fan of his music. From what I understand, Kasey spent lockdown playing around with some of her favourite songs and this version of Lose Yourself is the result. Brilliant! Kasey has spent her whole solo career bucking the constraints of the record companies and always gone her way. She made it to the top in Aussie music anyway with many awards, becoming the youngest ever ARIA Hall of Fame recipient. BTW….how was that for breath and vocal control? Not to mention the awesome arrangement. ❤ Also, that was Kasey’s Dad, Bill, on the steel guitar. Full kudos to Eminem for his songwriting. Personally, the reason Kasey’s version affects me so much is all down to the fact that she did lose herself in the music, the moment during this performance. She is a true blue Aussie who will leave her soul bared on stage every single time. ❤
When Eminem heard Kasey Chambers’ poignant take on “Lose Yourself,” his positive reaction mirrored more than simple approval. By granting Chambers the nod to feature her cover on Spotify, Eminem displayed a genuine respect for her craftsmanship-a sentiment many of Eminem fans of Kasey Chambers undoubtedly share.
This video has inspired me to buy a couple of Kasey Chambers' CDs and rent the movie "8 Mile" that i have never been tempted to see before... This is a super great PERFORMANCE of music... Inspiring for me, a performing musician. One of my all time favorites!
For me it's a bit like the Beatles writing "Get by with a little help", and then Joe Cocker doing it, or Jonny Cash with "Hurt"... Both are great, but a completely different feel. I love this cover, it's probably the best cover I can think of.
Great, isn't it? Kasey makes it her own song to the extent that the credits could read: lyrics - eminem; music - Kasey. I think the Janis comparison is spot on. There's not many artists that sing with such powerful emotion. As for non-Australians not knowing Australian artists: we're used to it. Maybe we feel sorry for non-Australians because they don't know what they are missing.
I felt like this was a referendum on women! I felt her SCREAMING at us; “LOOK! See! Do you see how our men are suffering? So you see how OUR PEOPLE are suffering?!” I felt like she inserted every raw, painful, exposed, nerves, like she LIVED this pain herself! I’m betting she was prejudiced against, bigoted against, and BOOED off stages! She’s got a history with this suffering!
I really love this rendition of Lose Yourself. If anyone can point me to some other performances from her that have this kind of build up with distorted guitars and stufd I'd really appreciate it! I've checked out some of her videos and listened to records from streaming services, but as great as her folky country stuff is. I've failed to find anything close to this powerful 😢
Spoilers? How so? We have both not heard this performance before. I (Itai) only saw about 45 seconds of it and decided to prep it for the show, so didn't listen to anymore, just as the start of it was so good. Neither Asaf nor I had any idea what was coming. I never knew Kasey was such a powerhouse. This version blew me away. I was actually struggling to keep my emotions in check as this performance hit me so hard. Amazing. Thank you for taking the time to view and engage. Much appreciated! 🙏
Love your reaction. Whole heartedly agree with your thoughts on her approach to this song and with 25 year of gems behind her, plenty more to hear from her. Another Aussie band sadly unheard of outside of here is Cold Chisel. They have a massive back catalogue, but challenge you to tell me their cover of 'Wild Thing' isn't better than the original - maybe even Hendricks. The live 'Last Stand' performance is absolutely epic regardless. - Do yourself a favour. ruclips.net/video/8Z6RjUi3rmE/видео.html&ab_channel=GlennThomas
I don't believe the two should be compared. Other than sharing core lyrics they have pretty much nothing in common. Not the emotion they invoke, not the performers emotion not even the performers connection or interpretation of the lyrics are identical. There will be people who prefer one over the other, and that's fine. It's subjective. But the fact is they are both amazing versions of the same set of lyrics, and to say one is better than the other would insult one of these VERY talented people. IMO
Melanie Safka is a great call! Kasey Chambers has always been a hit and miss artist for me - one of the few people who I preferred in the studio to live - but this is fire.
Because Kasey dropped it on her audience (a country music audience) and as an encore to commemorate 20 yrs since Lose Yourself was released
A country & bluegrass performer, took a rap song, tore it completely apart, & made it her motherfucking own!!!
Great cover! Kasey is a phenomenal artist! Thank you for reacting to this cover.
She walks you through the pain- every break in her voice cries out- before empowering and motivating you - psyching you up. ❤❤
She had a hard time getting airtime early in her career-she ended up writing “Am I Not Pretty Enough “ in protest. I think perhaps she identifies through those early years.
I have seen a lot of people who say the same…goosebumps. I think she blew it out of the park. Amazing cover.
Lose Yourself is one of those songs that people will still be listening to 100 years from now. This version does it total justice.
Kaseys life has been very similar to Eminem’s… she had a lot of trouble getting radio to play her songs so she wrote Am I Not Pretty Enough …. She strays into other genres and has performed live with Australian hip hop and rock artists …live her performances are amazing ❤
A lot of other people who react say she has a great voice, I think her voice is amazing, as is this cover.
Playing in the beginning, and the mood all changed.
Said exactly the same myself. A while ago
I've always thought that the crowd was so quiet because this was the end of a Country concert and they were sitting there thinking WTF 🙂
That's exactly right I would guess most of her country music audience didn't even know the song. Filmed in a theatre everyone is seated. I think most are mesmerised by her performance! I think it's the best cover of ALL TIME

Eminem must approve of Kasey's arrangment as he has allowed her to put it on Spotify etc... Kudos for that !!
I love this version- I feel every word.
I still get chills every time… and her band is amazing wow 🤩

RUclips is for discovery of great art without the recognition they deserve!
BRILLIANT!!! slowly telling his horrific story ...then the emotion kicks in//the the ANGER and FRUSTRATION... Great reaction guys

John farnhams with Melbourne symphony orchestra live cover of the Beatles - HELP
Second this.
Couldn’t agree more. John Farnham’s cover of Help is epic. Nothing like the original, hardly recognisable. Even John Lennon commented favourably on it.👍
As well as, something is wrong with my baby’ with Jimmy Barnes
This song absolutely means something to her. She was fantastic. It feels like a completely different song.❤

When I first saw this I thought Janis as well!!! Love it!!! It’s so good. 👍🏼

Great performance and so much emotion, and appreciate your discussion on it!
Brilliant
good reactions guys
She is great and I also love her song Not Pretty Enough. Great reaction. 👍

My guess for the next song is Money Game part 1. But I am Ren obsessed right now.
Great reaction ❤

She performed this at the end of her concert.
Incredible !!!
Her dad plays slide and her Brother is in there somewhere.

Keep in mind Kasey Chamers is 47yo and rocks the end like an angry teenager. ❤❤❤

Would have been good to get a true reaction from Asaf, without Itai giving spoilers.
But glad this performance is being seen, I love it.

For a great cover try led Zeppelins no quarter performed by Tool cover of no quarter. it’s not often like tihis that you can make it their own….

sounds more like a mix of Janis Joplin and Melanie Safka IMO
Melanie Safka is a great call!

@@raucousreg9064 I was never a great fan of Kasey until I heard this
What have they done to Eminem's Song...Mamma?
Talk about ruining a great song with blah blah blah.
