Matt, hate to pour cold water on your excitement with that new Mazda, but it is far more of a rebadge than Mazda wants people to realize. Look up the Changan SL03 and the 2 cars are nearly identical. It's been on sale around the world since 2022. It rides on a Chinese EPA1 platform. It's sad to see an established carmaker like Mazda doing this, but they gave that Chinese car some mildly different sheetmetal and slapped their logo on it. Even the interior is clearly a mildly revised version of the one in the SL03. I'd have loved to see a RWD sedan based on the CX90 platform, but this ain't it. Don't get me wrong, I think it looks pretty good, but this just screams cheap rebadge to me.
Ah bummer, I see what you mean. Wow yeah I’m surprised Mazda did that too. Welp, I was wrong, thanks for the info!
@@MattMaranMotoring I hope this doesn't show us the future of Mazda cars - them basically just rebadging Chinese cars to save money. That would suck. I still have hope they release a RWD inline 6 sedan (or better yet, a coupe), based on their crossover platform.
sad for Mazda fans, but good for Mazda. you have to admit that without changan ,Mazda can not afford the R&D money for a RWD
mazda 6, not mentioning rebadge is actually very common not only among Japanese car manufacturers but also between the US ones.
@Hazdazos Great info
@@Hazdazos Let them do both: a sedan and a coup as MX6.
my Friday is never complete without him😀
Thank you 🙏
Hopefully it helps keep the weekly update going:)
Thanks so much Jeremy!
Good idea!
I had a 2006 Mazdaspeed 6 for nine years and really liked it, but after recently purchasing a used 2019 Cadillac CTS AWD, I have developed a very strong preference for rear drive based AWD. Unfortunately, Cadillac does not offer a manual transmission with AWD. We will see what Mazda offers for power train options. I am kicking around the idea of adding a CT4-V Blackwing (manual) to my garage to fill the hole left from selling my C6 Grand Sport (manual). I have always had at least one car with a manual transmission since 1986.
Always love these updates Matt! It’s a sign the week is coming to a close and it’s time to relax for the weekend.
Great way to settle in on a Friday night!
Thank you, I’m glad you still enjoy them!
Great video as always. One correction though. The new model 3 performance’s range has improved by several mile, not dropped from the previous model. EPA testing parameters have changed. That’s why on Tesla’s website range estimates were lowered several months ago across all models and trims.
Thanks for the info!
Another GREAT episode ! Thank you so much for the effort and heart you put into these longer ones! LOVE it!!
Thank you, I’m glad you like them!
I was just grabbing my Favorite Tall Ale when you mentioned "Grab your favorite snack or Beverage" 🤣 I Laughed so hard and had to replay it for my Wife. While she was shaking her head. 🤣 Thanks Matt
Haha cheers! 🍻
Thanks! For the weekly update.
Thank you for the Super Thanks Lynda and all your support! 🙏
Thanks for another great weekly update!
Thanks for watching Eddie!
Love these updates. Thanks Matt!
Thanks for watching Paul!
Thanks for the update, Matt. Lots of great news this week.
Thanks for watching man!
I thought the same thing regarding Subaru's comment. It wasn't so much about sedans, people just didn't want a Legacy. They made it look weird for the mid-cycle refresh and it was really dull to drive. The previous versions of the Legacy were better and had more engine options to choose from. I still see tons of previous gen Legacy's but hardly ever see a new one.
Yes! I love long weekly updates!
Good logic as far as arguing the Mazda 6 will be coming. I would love to see a new one. I would be all for replacing mine which is a 2014. But mine is a MT, so I still might go with a ATSV blackwing.
And that's the problem. This is why 6 might not come. People say they want it, but then buy something else instead. It's fair on your end to buy whatever you want, but it's also fair for Mazda to anticipate this and not waste money on the 6.
@@andycalifornia426 absolutely. That is why, as much as I hate car depreciation, I put my money were my mouth is and buy Enthusiast cars with MTs new. Otherwise, OEMs don’t see the benefit.
Mazda’s previous Komodo design was pretty amazing, not gonna lie. Their Mazda 6 and CX-9 looked really good. Something got lost in translation with the new designs. It’s nice but not as nice
KODO ✍️ not Komodo
“Not gonna lie”
If Subaru could design an attractive fun to drive sedan people might actually buy it.
Without RTV issues
Thanks! For the informative video
Thanks for the Super Thanks man!
We went to buy a new Mazda 6 to replace our old one but we were too late. We aren’t SUV people, as nice as the CX-5’s are. Ended up getting a Model 3 Performance. It’s definitely not for everyone, not even for me, completely. But living with it on a daily basis has been a good experience.
So the Legacy is becoming an actual legacy. It’s sad to see another sedan leaving the US market.
Loved the weekly update have a great weekend 🙌
Thank you! You too!
Let's go!!! What a great weekly update.
Thanks man!
Man you're not lying alots of news. Nice to see another sedan
I hope they bring the Mazda EZ-6 comes to the states
What a fine episode!🚗
Best car updates on RUclips, always look forward to these
I like sedans more than SUVs. The ride in our Kia Sorento is so rough compared to our Lexus and my Mustang. I really noticed it on a recent road trip. I felt like the car was beating me up.
Crossovers and SUVs are too bouncy for me. I feel carsick when I drive one. It feels like I'm getting sloshed around in my seat too much, and also they crash over bumps because of all the suspension travel and the huge tires they put on them. I also prefer sedans because the ride is much more settled and predictable
Mazda6 with the inline-6 would be amazing but Mazda has already let me down with the CX70. My hopes aren't very high.
What don’t you like about the CX-70?
@@danharden438everything it’s a crime what the Mazda team did for the cx70
@@danharden438 the CX70 is simply a 2-row CX90. I and many others were hoping for something similar in size to the CX60 from Europe.
I definitely get that Subaru has to look at sales and make decisions based on that, but I really feel like they're losing their way. First the STI, now the Legacy. I've owned a 2015 wrx and 2020 wrx with performance package and was saving to trade it in for a new STI until it got canceled. Growing up I always wanted an STI, it was one of my affordable dream cars. Subaru used to make some fun and/or interesting vehicles and I kind of agree I feel like they failed the legacy, there are still tons of new sedans selling.
Mid 200’s of range for the G wagon? Didn’t low range kill the Etron GT? A car can be beautiful all day but if you make it electric, and no range. It’s not going to make it.
Happy Friday!
Good dig at the market with "Magically, the second you put some cladding on the side, everybody wants it"!
Mazda FTW. How do they keep surprising the world? Stunning interior!
Lots of updates, appreciate the insight on everything...Hard to argue against Tesla M3P like you said! Also, I thought it was pronounced Ace-min 🤷♂️
I like the looks of the Mazada 6..the back end is nice def need a 6speed but will never happen
any info on the weight of the hybrid mazda6
I didn't see any yet.
As much as a guy eating 2 Big Macs a quarter pound large fries and a mcflurry at McDonald’s /s
9:52 ford's evos concept was pretty sleek too
True!
I'd love to have a hybrid Mustang. An EcoBoost premium hybrid would entice me to sell Ruby.
But is a Cayenne S Hybrid’s 19 additional hp enough to overcome the increased weight? Feels like a significant assumption that it’ll be faster than the GTS.
Also Mercedes G will be VERY limited. It’ll be a 580 listed at or over G63 MSRP.
……they will sell a TON of them in L.A.
@@eddieg6436 well yeah its the other USA, California. I am not saying they wont sell, they def will. The issue will be how many are being built and allocations.
Might be some deals on Legacy's.
New Model 3 performance 8s ultimate driver's car, nothing comes even close to this thing. Especially when you factor in price with tax credit at $47500 all I can say is wow.
What's going on? Where's the Nike hoodie Matt?!? 🤦🏽♂️😂😂
Legacy wagon is a nice thought; Anyway, good deals on remaining Legacy run? Not worth a drink for Legacy. ..... Interior of Aston Martin looks very jet like.....paint design on Kia Tasman.....can I get my car repainted that way;
You could already factory order a new Legacy for $2k under MSRP. Maybe the deals will get even sweeter than that.
8 Subaro EVs in 2030: it will be 2 actual models with a bunch of variants. I don't know Subaru lineup, but each model will get an STI version (which will probably just add some more cladding and a stripe or something) and that will count as a separate model. This is what the industry does when they promise an unbelievable number of new models in the near future.
been waiting for this.... they so damn late man. I probably have to set up a 1.5 year lease rental contract to bridge the gap until they release this baby. That front grill looks absolutely amazing with the light pattern and all. That back-side is something I'd probably have to get used to.... the designer dropped their pencils and went home while designing that.
Sad to hear about the Legacy, especially when the Legacy GT was so gangster back in the day. Pour another one out for Subaru lol.
Thank you for the Super Thanks man!
Seeing that the Legacy sold about the same as the WRX, im scared to see if Subaru doesn't see a point to continue the WRX also.
I would like to think that would be too much even for Subaru, but then again they casually killed off the STI on a random Friday afternoon so I guess anything’s possible.
They need to keep the v6 in the murano to but throw that Cvt away and put the 9speed in there 😁😁😁
From my sources that I have at Ford it's going to be a GT350E is basically a GT350 with hybrid motor
Interesting…flat plane crank coming back?
I wish but probably will just be more of an e-ray setup
Gotcha, so AWD finally?
@@MattMaranMotoring if what drdetroitwheels is true I can't see them bringing back the voodoo motor and gt350 makes it sound like it wouldn't use the supercharged motor
I'm waiting for this in SUV form.
Looks great. 100 times better than the outgoing 6
Another sad week no new maverick competitor's 😢
If Mazda drops the dial and other tactile controls for touch then I'll drop my interest in Mazda products in turn.
Exciting news on the Mazda. I still love my Mustang but the Mazda is tempting especially as a hybrid. I'd love to have a Mustang hybrid.
Doubt it would come here for the reasons you stated. But if KIA had an entry into the overlander pickup market to knock off Gladiator, that would be unexpected and hilarious.
I like it and hope it comes to the USA. And I want the EV.
Obligatory comment for the Al-Gore-Rhythm.
Thank you as always, Matt.
Stay classy my friend.
wasn’t there a spy shot of a magma gv70?
Yep! I can’t show spy shots here though without paying big money for the license to legally show them.
I currently own a 2024 Subaru Legacy Premium and it absolutely fits my needs, im sad the Legacy doesn't get to carry on....
Why should I be sad about a car getting discontinued when I could buy it for less in the used market? Nobody buys these cars new and I don’t care about it cuz I take a model 3 or a Camry anyday
@@drippgxdso why comment this was my personal take I didn't ask you
@@truckercowboyed2638 Ik but then again people shouldn’t be sad about cars getting discontinued because you could buy it used. Ford don’t make a 67 Mustang fastback anymore, but could I still buy it used?Absolutely. Same with like 50s beautiful American cars
Yes but I meant I'm sad we're losing a long standing name for 36 years.....also the legacy was going to get a hybrid along with the outback and I believe it would have been popular...@@drippgxd
We own a 2023 Outback Premium. Really wanted the wagon. I then noticed how good of a deal the Legacy is for those that want an affordable sedan with high quality full time AWD. The Premium is absolutely the sweet spot in the trims. And the 2.5L probably moves the Legacy much better than it does the Outback.
Thanks for the content Matt, unfortunately nobody's covering Chinese cars in the Autoshow only in the states, so we only learn about these Japanese cars which are falling behind, and that asymmetry of information is bad for US understanding global car market.
Mazda 6 looks good.👍
17:16 min - 😄😄🍻🍾🍷🥃
Mazda 6 and EV, high hopes and watered down respectively. But thank you, keep rocking as always.
Subaru put no r and d into the Legacy. I wonder if this was a contributer to its situation.
IF SUBARU OFFERED THE LEGACY with a tad bit affordability, HYBRID the LEGACY & complimentary service it would [ SALE ]
The Legacy is very affordable for what it is. You can also factory order it to your spec so you don’t have to pay for things you don’t want. You can also easily order them for $1-2k below MSRP. The Premium trim in particular is a lot of vehicle for the money. Problem is… so is the Outback Premium.
@@thatoneotherotherguy agree ! I believe if they go hybrid it’ll help the hell out of sales !
I think the new model 3 performance is also much better handling, but we’ll have to wait and see, curious if they run it around the Nurburgring
What is peoples obsession with Nurburgring times? Totally pointless. It’s a 2.9 second, brand new car that costs under 50k.
FYI, all the reviews I’ve seen have said it handles pretty well. There’s plenty of reviews, so take a look at some 👍.
@@peedeegtI really don’t care about Nurburgring times but Tesla would prolly wanna do it if they’re confident it can run a decent time?
I still daily my first Gen 1992 Subaru Legacy Rs! It is a perfect car!
That’s awesome!
Mazda EZ6 - as a Plug-in 🔌 hybrid- with Inline 6?
Giving Flagship 🚢
Lifted-platform Sedan

For $33,000 base?
Would OWN
Acura TL
Hyundai Sonata

Go Big 💪🏼
If Mazda truly wants to go upmarket then they will need to bring a Mazda6 to America in some form. You can’t have a successful luxury brand here with out a midsize luxury sport sedan
Awesome Mazda news. Really wish the 6 interior was a little bigger for a US release.
RIP Legacy, I had the first gen long ago. Happy to see a new Mazda6! But ultimately waiting for a BEV Forester or Crosstrek to replace our current Forester.
EZ-6 looks strange. Hope it has zero influence on Mazda's design language.
I completely forgot about the legacy. I only know the outback. Much more appealing than the legacy. Now Camry has AWD so the legacy doesn't have a market anymore
Wunderbar! Another Episode of the Matt Maran Friday Night Car News Show - with mind-blowing 40 Minutes of Content again. Wishing everybody a great day and a fantastic weekend ahead. Enjoy the News and your leisure time!
I love Mazda, but I don't like the exterior at all. It looks like a Chinese car. The Interior is gorgeous, though. Hopefully we get something like it here though because RWD biased is a real win and the hybrid powertrain does very well over here in the US.
Subaru has become such a boring brand.
Don't look at Mitsubishi
Toyota is also boring.
Subaru is the worst. Ugliest cars on the road too
@@blackwhirlwind1245 I don't think you can say Toyota is boring anymore they brought us the gr carolla, bringing back the land cruiser, Prius looks good for the first time ever and they still sell the 86
Subaru has been boring for a long time now.
Just an FYI: You use "you know" as filler words so much it is distracting.
Tesla is cheaper but it alsoooo feels it. You pay for the electric and charging infrastructure. And a person who has driven plenty and plaids I can confirm the quality isn’t there. It’s cheaper and feels it. Plenty of other EV companies out there and TONS of discounted rebates.
True but from a value perspective nothing is touching a new Model 3 Performance with full tax credit for now. And that’s coming from someone who really dislikes teslas. There’s no great new Mach E or EV6 or ID.4 I’m gonna get for that same $47k.
@@thatoneotherotherguy Value to performance no, Value to everything else, yes haha. For me id rather be a little slower (not that any of the EVs really are ) and have a way nicer daily that i sit in and touch everyday.
@@ethenjordan2010 that’s fair. I’d be the same way myself. But I am impressed of a sub 3 second car with a big warranty new under $50 that costs pennies per mile in energy to drive.
Gotta be honest not really a fan of the design of the new Mazda 6
looks like a Nissan
Yeah the discontinued Mazda 6 looks 10x better. The old Mazda grill design was a lot more aggressive and distinct. Mazda's new grill design is getting too close to Cadillac and generic
I like it
If people rather buy more expensive performance cars over Tesla performance that’s not a good thing for Tesla don’t you think that’s like buying something to avoid it so can they ever even get that crowd
For the algo
No, no, no...bring back the rejuvenated Twin Turbo RX-7, 2 + 2 coupe, 7 spd MT, & ICE , not hybrid or electric! zoom, zoom, zoom......
It’s so immature to only care about 0-60 times🤦♂️
I think whats killing subaru is their refusal to drop the boxer engine. They can't seem to keep up with emissions regulations while making them more powerful than the ej's hence lackluster enthusiast cars
I hope that Mazda baking climate controls into the touchscreen is China exclusive
I’m not buying a EV [ At All ]❗️❗️❗️
As A Subaru WRX Fan also, that new Impreza is junky. I loved the ‘01 Impreza RS it was a fun car. Sedans can still sell its just no one wants a basic BISCH. The Legacy got too basic which is why it’s dead.
I don’t think a $50,000+ Mazda 6 sedan is likely for North America. One can hope and dream but, sadly we are a SUV driven society. Also, the tech in that new 6 is all Chinese. The Arata is the new CX-5 not CX-30
What makes you think CX-5? It looks smaller than the current CX-5…
@@MattMaranMotoring because it’s based in the Deepal S7 which is classed as a Mid-size crossover SUV.
I’m a big fan of KIA and Hyundai for the last few years but that KIA truck is Butt ugly! 😵💫
You know, Matt makes some great content. You know? He gets, you know, the facts straight and has some cool news, you know?
I miss your legacy GT speck - B
It is nice to see sedans still being produced. Still, the electric route does not make objective sense: battery production (mining) + shipping is not good for the environment. It would make more sense to convert to sustainable fuels and use the existing infrastructure of gas stations. Also, sustainable fuels would give an additional source of revenue to our struggling farmers. Don't ask me to enjoy driving an IPad.
That EV production myth was busted a long time ago…
@@MattMaranMotoring My main point was there is a smart way to be environmentally friendly by using the existing infrastructure, rather than having to create a brand new one (and save jobs).
The electric grid is far more fleshed out than the gas station and pipeline network. All we have to do is continue cleaning up the power sources, which we are. All EV makers have been cleaning up their battery chemistries. Things are looking good.
Thanks for the Weekly News!🗞️
Thanks for watching!
I would seriously look at a new Mazda6. But I don't think we'll get one. They could have built one with Toyota if they wanted a presence in the US and China. This tells me that it was intended for the Chinese market only.
Its called EZ-6 probably because its an "easy" version of the real 6....it's basically a rebadged Deepal SL03 produced by China's Changan Auto! 🤫🤣
🙂👍
If I wasn’t at a school that strictly prohibits alcohol, I would have poured one out for the Legacy 😔
Oh dang first comment !
That Mazda 6 is notably Electric. I doubt that it's coming here in that configuration. Mazda is joined at the hip with Toyota and they don't have a proper platform to support mass market EVs yet.
