    I'm really pleased to see that Gibson is taking a hint from the success of Fender's Squier range, and letting Epiphone produce more products that are unique to the brand. I own an Epi LP Custom Classic from 2014, and the new/old Wilshire P-90. They are both really good guitars, but the Wilshire is something that you just can't get from anyone but Epiphone. Oh, by the way, my Custom Classic has lovely "aged" binding all over that even makes the old style headstock look good!

    Just picked a used one in mint condition and I’ll say it absolutely rocks!!
    Weight relieved so it’s just under 8 lbs,
    Fit, finish and quality of construction is excellent!
    Holds tune and intonation perfectly, and the active Fishman Fluence pickups are incredible! Tons of gain and sustain without any hum or noise. From the purist clean tones to scorching metal they ROCK!!
    Best $600 I’ve spent on a guitar! Bought the SG version Prophecy in Red/Black a year ago and had to have the Les Paul also! Love em both!

    Great review mate. Great playing too. Subscribed!!I have thought about buying one BUT some reviews mark them down for inconsistent quality. I have an Epi 1984 Explorer which is great and an Epi Les Paul which is poor. Sort of adds to the evidence against them. Would like to see a long term review when you get chance!

They were all very good but you'd definitely be best off getting the one you could buy in your hands first if possible.
      Unfortunately mate, the guitar got sold a little while ago to pay for the recent Strandberg purchase that's on here. Definitely a shame because it was awesome but there's a whole story behind it. If my hands weren't giving me tons of grief it'd absolutely still be here.

    This Epiphone is pretty damn cool for the price tag, which puts it as a solid contender for the LTD EC-1000 models as a metal guitar. It is also nice that this has a better access for the upper frets as well as a belly cut (seriously, why isn't the belly cut a mandatory feature in all electric guitars?)

    Long time Gibson player here. I openly admit that I’m a headstock snob but the new Epis are worth a shot. I like many others have a complex relationship w/Gibsons…And it gets really fun when you can buy 2 Epis for the less than 1 Gibby.
    Perfection, no. Fun, hell yes.
    However, I recently pulled the trigger on the Koa Custom and your review of that Koa helped me muster the confidence in that decision.
    Epiphones have impressed me more than Gibson lately as I do expect a niggle or two w/a guitar that is literally a fraction of the price of a Gibson.
    And frankly, go check out a video from Life of Agony guitarist on his new Epiphone vs. Gibson Custom video. It too is an honest take on where these new Epiphones sit currently from a quality standpoint.
    Nice job and subbed!

    Great review, Mate! Epiphone has been putting out great guitars over the last few years. My first guitar was an Epiphone LP Goth Studio, and I’ve owned a few other Epis over the years. Used to be a joke that any time I picked up an Epi, I’d find at least one dead fret. Was the 13th on the high E on my first Studio.
    They’ve really stepped up their game. I’ve been a Les Paul fanboy since I started playing, but for years I preferred off-brand Les Pauls, largely, imo, because of Gibson trying to make Epiphone not very favorably compare to Gibson. I think that’s done now. The Epiphones compare positively to Gibsons these days, to the point where my Gibsons hardly leave their cases anymore. I also have only ever once in my years seen a fretboard inlay start to rise out of the board, and that was on a 2016 Gibson LP Standard.
    I got the SG Prophecy in Tiger Red the other night. Really love it. Just saw a great deal for the Les Paul in Olive Tiger and ordered that.
    Guess it’s time to sell a Gibson, and I think I’m actually happy with that.

    • @JackTaylorGuitars
      @JackTaylorGuitars  Год назад +1

      Thank you my dude! I 100% agree with everything you’ve said. I’d go for an Epiphone every single time now if I’m honest. The only Gibson I’d like to own is an natural Explorer but I just can’t justify it when the Epis are so good.
      Thanks again my dude, hope you enjoy the LP 🤘

    • @ZacksRockingLifestyle
      @ZacksRockingLifestyle Год назад +1

      @@JackTaylorGuitars I can agree about the Explorer, Gibson has designed great guitars, and the Explorer is no exception, but what Epi has put out are fantastic. I got a chance to try the Brendan Small Ghosthorse Explorer and the only issues I had were the lack of tone control and (even with the special heel that I guess was put in the Ghosthorse) what I felt to be terrible access to the upper frets. I can’t much imagine a Gibson would have any better of a heel, though, so I’m probably just being picky.
      Would you prefer a natural mahogany Explorer or a natural korina/afara?
      I’m a nutto for natural Koa guitars. Was it you who had the Koa LP, Jack? I know I saw one in a Prophecy review last night.
      I’m generally of the mindset that the best guitars ever have already been made, and if I want a nice guitar, I’d best look in the “used” section, but I’m rather pleasantly shocked when I see a new guitar that brings out the American consumerism I work hard to suppress. I can’t buy and resell used guitars forever if nobody takes any interest (or the depreciation, haha!) in the new ones.

    • @JackTaylorGuitars
      @JackTaylorGuitars  Год назад +1

      Oh yeah man, the Ghosthorse is a sick looking guitar! I think you’re right about the neck heel though on pretty much all explorers. For me, it’s the shape of the cutaway that causes the biggest problem and then the heel doesn’t help.
      But I could probably live with it. Especially for a Korina explorer. I’ve seen the new Epi ones and the temptation is there but I can’t justify it. Especially now my Strandberg has taken over my life 😂
      I did indeed have a Koa Custom. It’s one of the only guitars I miss since it got sold actually but mostly for the looks. I love a les paul but there’s always an element of, like, you have to want to play them. It doesn’t come as easy as other models for me. They definitely make you work for it.
      I totally agree man. Used is always the best option but sometimes you just find something new that gets you man 🤘

      Said simply, “Epiphone Adam Jones Les Paul Custom Art Series” (or whatever exactly they called them).
      I bought both of the first two launched. I think I’m probably going to buy one or more of each one. I could have got a better guitar, used, for the same price, but they’re also already worth about $700 more than what I paid for them. I’m not very proud of having bought musical instruments as investments, I somewhat find it unethical, but I would really like to be able to afford the home I grew up in some day.

    Crazy that I stumbled upon your channel a few weeks ago, knowing nothing about Epiphone, and honestly never paid attention to the "Les Paul"/single-cut guitar shape. I am not a big fan of Vs/Explorers/SGs. No real reason - they've just never suited my taste. I love strats/superstrats, Jazzmasters, Jaguars, and modern Teles. I own a Schecter C-1 Platinum, but wanted a new guitar with a set of Fishman Fluences. I've always preferred Fenders/Squires over Gibson/Epiphone, but I obviously am not going to find an affordable factory Fender/Squire with Fishman Fluence humbuckers. So I started looking at many other manufacters that produce guitars with Fishmans in the $1000-$1500 range. I fancied a few LTDs, was about to buy my 5th Schecter (SLS Elite w/Fluences) and even came close to buying a guitar from a brand I haven't heard much of (Cort.) Apart from the Cort, all other options were a little too expensive for what I really wanted to spend. Watching this video last week on my hunt to purchase a new guitar, I didn't much so pay attention to the guitar itself but more so just listened to your general thoughts about the pickups, I probably just ignorantly said "eh, cool dad guitar I guess." A week later I have stumbled upon your video again, but now after purchasing a Les Paul Prophecy of my own. 😂 Hate me for not liking Les Pauls, but I couldn't resist the price especially since it is currently on sale. The pickups were great, the guitar feels and looks very good. But after a few hours of playing, i realised that the guitar was not able to stay in tune. Every minute you have had to tune again. An absolutely unacceptable unfixable issue. I think the hole neck and specially the headstock are too weak to hold against the pulling strenght of the Strings. All is working to much at my exemplar. Sadly badly

      That’s not good news mate! I really want to give the extura a go. Definitely sounds like a defective one because they’re some serious issues. I don’t blame you sending it back! Thanks for watching dude 🤘

    • @JackTaylorGuitars
      @JackTaylorGuitars  2 года назад +1

      Hey mate! Thanks for checking out the video 🤘 I’ve managed to bring the action down on mine to what I’d consider fairly low, definitely very playable. That said, I know the fretwork on these has been known to be a bit iffy on some of the earlier runs. I also know a guy who had one that had to go back because of a twisted neck.
      If you haven’t already dude, I’d check for high frets. It might be that the frets need a good level and that might sort you out. Hopefully that’s a bit of help man!

    I like mine, but it came with fret sprout and frets out of level. Best height I could get was .010 action at the 7/9th with 1.75mm string height at the 12th and 24th on low E. I’ve had nicer guitars come with worse and sub 200 come with better.

    I’ve picked up one of these since they were on sale. I’ve wanted a Les Paul for a while, but none that I played ever felt like home. From the moment I felt the neck and saw the finish, I was hooked. The pickups are honestly way better than I expected. I play ambient/worship stuff, and honestly the single coil and burstbucker are very usable. However I am changing out the electronics for something mor tailored to my preferences(Lambertones Grinder/Crema). But it was totally worth it for the playability and feel.
    As far as the tacky neck, I use coconut oil on my hands, and sometimes I play the guitar after applying some, and I never have issues with it sticking 🤷
