I recently picked up the flying v, it's surprisingly light, versatile and the asymmetrical neck is super comfy. I've never encountered a chinese built guitar made to this degree of quality especially for the price.
The way the voicing actually works is the volume pots split the neck and bridge pick ups independently and the tone pots voice the humbuckers modern or PAF independently.
I got one in the red tiger aged gloss back in November from GC (Sweetwater has been out of stock for like a year, until just recently). Needed a setup, but otherwise it has a flawless build and it's a phenomenal guitar in its own right, but for the money I don't think you can get this feature rich in a high profile brand anywhere else.
Just a heads up to anyone considering these: make sure to play them for 20-30 min in a store. Once the neck heats up from your hands it gets mad sticky. There is so much poly on these guitars they don’t even feel like they are made of wood.
I picked up an Epiphone Prophecy Les Paul a few months ago on Sweetwater on a ridiculous sale. Saved about $200 on an already nicely priced instrument. I'm impressed with the pick-ups and the overall feel and look of the guitar. The only thing I did aesthetically was to change out the pot knobs for the more traditional Gibson style transparent black, replaced the toggle end with a chrome tip and replaced the plate under the toggle with a traditional Gibson plate. I also ordered a custom truss rod cover that was in the Les Paul script with "prophecy" where Custom would normally be. I just wasn't a fan of the look of the replaced parts. Thankfully, you're able to make it into what you like pretty easily.
I've owned the Jerry Cantrell prophecy, Heafy origins LP and the regular LP prophecy. The only one I still have is the regular prophecy. In my opinion it is the best Epiphone. It just sounds and feels so good! Great video Fluff 🤙🏻
Definitely loved how these sound. That said I've been pretty unimpressed with Epiphone's Quality control. Took three guitars for them to send me one without damage. Three guitars, two cracked nuts, one wiring issue, and one cracked neck. Long and Mcquade in Canada here was real helpful, but I was pretty bummed it took that long to get a working model
Man, that sucks! Glad you finally got a good one. That's why I miss the days when a Sam Ash could stock tons of guitars - I got my PRS SE Custom 24 at a Sam Ash ten years ago and I went through a couple in the store before I bought one. Those days are almost gone...
I had the same problem with a last gen prophecy Les Paul from L+M, only mine was so bad, that there's crazy fret buzz, and no one can seem to set up the neck properly, the truss rod must be fked, cuz you can't get it to go far enough to get decent action, without stripping everything by overturning it.. 3 different people at 3 different stores(and not all L+Ms either) and no one has any idea how to get it playing right.. it's purely ornamental at this point though, I should've just got a poster of one instead lol🤬💸💸💸
I have the firebird. I am using a bogner mini extacy, ran thru two peavy P A speakers, really old ones, back when they were well built. Oh it's a beast! Firebird pickups are unbelievable! I have an accidental awesome sound.
I recently had an epiphone modern, and it was horrific, the neck literally was twisted in 3 different ways, so as much as I loved it I had to send it back.
Cool video I am a big Epiphone fan I own two that I modified myself I have a Custom silverburst with a Ebony fretboard and Custom shop Pearly Gates and it has A USA wiring harness and A USA switch and input jack and it has tone Pros on the bridge and tail piece and key stone locking tuners and I put over sized chrome pickup rings and a chrome tip it's all chromed out last I had the frets leveled and polished I took out the push pull knobs and made it like a USA Les Paul with a 3 way switch you should hear this guitar now it Rocks😎🎸🤟
I have the Flying V Prophecy from this line of Epiphones and I can attest to the lack of quality control that others have said in the comments. That being said, after I had it worked on by a tech, the guitar is so damn awesome. It sounds so damn heavy and plays so wonderfully.
Those play really nice. Another alternative for anybody out there on a budget, the Epiphone Les Paul 50s standard for the price, is absolutely amazing. I also have the Epiphone Les Paul 1959 reissue. Also amazing for the price.
I know this is a late comment but I’m trying to make a decision on my next guitar and I’m thinking the standard 50’s. I have a ‘59 as well and was curious how the 50’s pickups sound compared to the BB’s in the 59. I was thinking of putting the BB 1&2 in the 50’s. Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

Maaaan, I love the Prophecy range. I’ve got a 2018 GX and it’s my favourite guitar. That speedtaper D neck with the satin finish is just *chefs kiss*. Been eyeing this range off for awhile.
I have the same Epiphone. Only problem was the fret ends weren’t rounded off and tore my hands up. Just took the time to file those down, it’s now it’s great.

Active pickups are a must for me because the music i play is high gain actives high gain amp with gain rolled as heavy as i need plus a ts9dx turbo tubescreamer with a boss ns2 noise supressor im ready for battle. Especially using my peavey 6505mh into my mesa 2×12 and my valveking mesa/jcm800 modds into my peavey windsor 4×12 or my line 6 4×10 are my favorite combination of amps ive used so far. I want an invective 120 head an iconic evh head. And a hughs and kettner switchblade. My bucket list amps. There nasty but beautiful relatively inexspensive for what u get and i just gotta get those 3 heads maybe il save and buy 1 a year.
My prophecy definitely had some high frets. After I leveled and crowned them, it's much better....also the nut was cut a little high. After getting it fixed up, it is a monster though. It definitely feels different when standing though, because it's 24 frets, the bridge and pickups are closer to the neck. Felt strange at first, but I'm used to it. This also caused the slightest amount of neck dive in mine. But this didn't stop me from also buying a purple Extura after.
I sold my epiphone les Paul Standard or actually traded it for a 2012 Epiphone prophecy Plus + LOL EMG 81 + 85 I'll never get rid of it I love it so much it's just has perfect tone for heavy metal of all genres I would love one of the 2021 models the lp and the exttura if I had to pick one I would get the extura im so impatient to try out those speacial voiced fishman fluence pickups in a prophecy. Mine is from 2012 so has emgs. Even still its a metal beast!

To be honest, this exact guitar is probably the best looking guitar released in recent years. In general the black+yellow finish is my favorite finish on a singlecut, and im extremely sad that there arent many more guitars with that finish. I would absolutely love a PRS SC in that finish (if it wasnt too expensive). I fell out of love with Gibsons and the original les paul shape doesnt appeal to me anymore, so it kind of makes me sad that this guitar is pretty much the only option with my favorite finish
I buy that a couple weeks ago, for my new band guigs and it killing it ! The sound, shape, feeling is for me awesome ! Super versatile. I used it mostly for punk and hardcore and in every amps is just sound awesome ! Trully happy with that !
I have the V prophecy with the same finish! I’m very happy with my purchase. The epiphones of today have closed the quality gap with Gibson so much that it really isn’t worth spending all the extra money for a Gibson. And Gibson finally started making great instruments again consistently too when the ownership changed. Again though just buy an epiphone!

From the same category, the Fishman Fluence pickups are also installed on the Schecter SLS….one of the finest guitars I’ve ever played (I’ve never tried the Prophecy). They’re in the same ballpark price wise, but the SLS would sell at x3 if it had a Fender or Gibson logo on the headstock.
Honestly I’m starting to like Epiphone wayyy more than Gibson. Maybe it’s because I’m not rich but I also love how much more thought and development that has gone into Epiphone. They’re listening to players and making really good guitars now. Like 5 years ago Epiphones we’re generally a mess but now it seems like they’ve got their shit together.
Been tempted to buy one of these. Hell ive got so many guitars, mainly super strats Charvel So cal, USA Jackson dinky Adrian smith etc. Dont need anymore. But would love to add a Les Paul to my collection.
I love my 2012 prophecy Plus. I will never get rid of it because it's my second favorite guitar and my favorite Les Paul. I would not trade my prophecy Plus for a Gibson Studio but a Gibson LP custom probably because all I have to do is add some active pickups emgs, Fishman's, or some bare knuckles
I had some spare dough about 8 months after epiphone dropped the inspired by Gibson guitars and I had a choice between this and the LP custom in white. I chose the custom. My only complaint is that the pick ups are a little muddy. Just a tad.
Thanks Fluff...you just blew my mind up outa my head w this as I've been shopping around for an epi and had it narrowed to the epiphone 59 inspired by Gibson line Les Paul standard...lol...I got an ea 339 inspired by Gibson line last year and it's awesome esp for the 550+ hard case I paid... sonically it really is right there w my Les Paul studio and SG standard...the 59 w the Gibson custom shop colab for the $$ is very different than the prophecy...now I'm thinking about the active fishmans and voice options as I don't own any guitars w active pickups...yet..lol..and haven't modded any either...you have inspired this cat to look outside the box.. 😂🤘🤪🎸🎶⛽
I just bought a prophecy Les Paul, the black one. This is my first Les Paul. I'm mostly a Flying V, Explorer Guy. But after watching many reviews of this guitar, I decided to check it out. Plus, one of my favorite metal front men Matt Heafy of Trivium plays a Epiphone Les Paul. Can't wait to explore this guitar more. So far, it's a mean machine for sure
depending on the GC there seems to be sales on these currently; went to one yesterday and saw the viper & flying V version of this guitar on sale for about 720$ instead of 900$
Oddly enough I think the studio models cut it perfectly from any year. Not sure what year my ugly burst is but the thinner body. Diminishing returns kicks in quickly after you get the pickups wiring and setup on a studio model. Stripping the neck to a stinger and TruOil... Add a kill and master volume and tone both switching series parallel on a decent pickup set.. Pretty hard to want for more.
I told myself I'd never buy an epiphone/gibson again after I sold em all. I bought one of these. The 24 actually accessible frets. Beware they come with 10-46 for those of you with dainty fingers.
I grabbed a prophecy last summer and I was amazed at the quality. It felt better than any Gibson LP I've ever picked up, and had better tones and heel joint. In my mind, it could be the ultimate Les Paul.
I'm not taking advice on which Epiphone is best from a man who said there were no Artist Signature RD's at a time when Epiphone makes a beautiful Lee Malia signature RD.
I've had a red one as well as the Extura in black -both pretty decent, great hardware and looks but I didn't like the balance and neck carve on the LP. Honestly I prefer my Harley Benton SC-DLX with Gotoh hardware once I've replaced the pickups for something beefier than Tesla VR-2s and it was three times cheaper. Way better setup out of the box (only needed intonation adjustement), neck carve is more ESP-ish (so it's a matter of personal preference but even though I prefer chunky necks, it's miles ahead of Epi Prophecy in terms of comfort). Don't get me wrong - there's a reason why I got two of these new Prophecys: pickups are awesome, general concept is great but the LP wasn't just up to the standard the price would suggest. This series needs some polish in terms of ergonomics.
I have yhe epiphone prophecy explorer. It's an incredible instrument that I bought for the solid feeling neck. But last week I got the slash les Paul and I got to say it's sonically more pleasing. Snappy fretboard. Unplugged comparison and the slash les Paul rang out 50% louder. The notes just jump off the fretboard like crickets in the south
The headstock makes all the difference in the world to me. I'd definitely own one now that it doesn't look so goofy.

It also plays insanely like every iteration of Les Paul. From p90 gold top to metal.

My favorite old one is a 2010 Classic. Just a great axe for the price and no mods needed :)

I just picked mine up from AMS for $699. I'm loving it, even more than my Epiphone '59 Les Paul.

I've got a Prophecy Extura and it's been a great guitar. I removed the Fishmans for a set of 81X/85X EMG set and it's made the guitar just amazing!

I still use my epi lp standard just swap the pickups for emg 81 85 and for me it works really well! This prophecy line looks amazing!

Just got the same one. Great guitar. Needed a little TLC on the frets and Nut but plays great and sounds great. I really like the neck profile!

Only wish Epiphone would have stainless steel frets on their guitars and we will finally have a good les paul guitar with SS frets for an affordable price
From the same category, the Fishman Fluence pickups are also installed on the Schecter SLS….one of the finest guitars I’ve ever played (I’ve never tried the Prophecy). They’re in the same ballpark price wise, but the SLS would sell at x3 if it had a Fender or Gibson logo on the headstock.
I own two of the original Les Paul Prophecy’s and I love them! Maybe you should get your hands on those models and give them a try!

Honestly I’m starting to like Epiphone wayyy more than Gibson. Maybe it’s because I’m not rich but I also love how much more thought and development that has gone into Epiphone. They’re listening to players and making really good guitars now. Like 5 years ago Epiphones we’re generally a mess but now it seems like they’ve got their shit together.

I love my 2012 prophecy Plus. I will never get rid of it because it's my second favorite guitar and my favorite Les Paul. I would not trade my prophecy Plus for a Gibson Studio but a Gibson LP custom probably because all I have to do is add some active pickups emgs, Fishman's, or some bare knuckles
I played the prophecy v a few months back and I really want one now (Im not even a flying v guy anymore)

I had some spare dough about 8 months after epiphone dropped the inspired by Gibson guitars and I had a choice between this and the LP custom in white. I chose the custom. My only complaint is that the pick ups are a little muddy. Just a tad.
Thanks Fluff...you just blew my mind up outa my head w this as I've been shopping around for an epi and had it narrowed to the epiphone 59 inspired by Gibson line Les Paul standard...lol...I got an ea 339 inspired by Gibson line last year and it's awesome esp for the 550+ hard case I paid... sonically it really is right there w my Les Paul studio and SG standard...the 59 w the Gibson custom shop colab for the $$ is very different than the prophecy...now I'm thinking about the active fishmans and voice options as I don't own any guitars w active pickups...yet..lol..and haven't modded any either...you have inspired this cat to look outside the box.. 😂🤘🤪🎸🎶⛽
I just bought a prophecy Les Paul, the black one. This is my first Les Paul. I'm mostly a Flying V, Explorer Guy. But after watching many reviews of this guitar, I decided to check it out. Plus, one of my favorite metal front men Matt Heafy of Trivium plays a Epiphone Les Paul. Can't wait to explore this guitar more. So far, it's a mean machine for sure

Just be careful buying online from GC. Usually those discounted units are returns or floor models with some minor flaws.
Digging the shirt
Oddly enough I think the studio models cut it perfectly from any year. Not sure what year my ugly burst is but the thinner body. Diminishing returns kicks in quickly after you get the pickups wiring and setup on a studio model. Stripping the neck to a stinger and TruOil... Add a kill and master volume and tone both switching series parallel on a decent pickup set.. Pretty hard to want for more.
I told myself I'd never buy an epiphone/gibson again after I sold em all. I bought one of these. The 24 actually accessible frets. Beware they come with 10-46 for those of you with dainty fingers.
I grabbed a prophecy last summer and I was amazed at the quality. It felt better than any Gibson LP I've ever picked up, and had better tones and heel joint. In my mind, it could be the ultimate Les Paul.
Of course the tone is better, Fishmman make pickups better than anything Gibson could dream of
I'm not taking advice on which Epiphone is best from a man who said there were no Artist Signature RD's at a time when Epiphone makes a beautiful Lee Malia signature RD.

I have a prophecy plus with EMG pickups but I think I like this models pickups better.

I've had a red one as well as the Extura in black -both pretty decent, great hardware and looks but I didn't like the balance and neck carve on the LP. Honestly I prefer my Harley Benton SC-DLX with Gotoh hardware once I've replaced the pickups for something beefier than Tesla VR-2s and it was three times cheaper. Way better setup out of the box (only needed intonation adjustement), neck carve is more ESP-ish (so it's a matter of personal preference but even though I prefer chunky necks, it's miles ahead of Epi Prophecy in terms of comfort). Don't get me wrong - there's a reason why I got two of these new Prophecys: pickups are awesome, general concept is great but the LP wasn't just up to the standard the price would suggest. This series needs some polish in terms of ergonomics.
High value guitar, for sure. Love the new Epis. They do need some work out the box though….fretwork is always a bit shotty.

they do a Matt heafy 7 with his customs voiced fishmans , you can have it in any colour you want as long as it's black

If memory serves me correctly, Fishman actually voiced these pick ups specifically of the Prophecy.

I have yhe epiphone prophecy explorer. It's an incredible instrument that I bought for the solid feeling neck. But last week I got the slash les Paul and I got to say it's sonically more pleasing. Snappy fretboard. Unplugged comparison and the slash les Paul rang out 50% louder. The notes just jump off the fretboard like crickets in the south
