Mine arrives in 2 days. I’m exited to take this guitar out for a run!
I have the Tiger Blue SG Prophecy, it only has two control knobs, I wish it had 4 with an out-of-phase option. I ended up buying a 4-pack of rechargeable 9-volts with a charger, it can be a pain to remember to unplug your guitar overnight or the battery will run down. The inlays are really nice. The Grover locking tuners are a must-have.
I've had mine for about 8 months now. I love it so much. Stays in tune. Sounds great. I love the body cut away at the high notes. Love the asymmetrically shaped neck. My wrist was a little painful at first due to the extended neck. I wanted 24 frets so I could play Money by Pink Floyd...and now I've mastered it. Highest recommendation from me. I waited like 6 months for this same color and year to show up on marketplace. I got it used for $550 because fuck greedy corporations.
Dam my wife would kill me if I got 1 more guitar.
Mine finally noticed a couple of months back on the count. They are all in cases, so she wouldn't know if I swapped one out for something else. 😄
@@richbriggs6053 I wish, mine is very on it. She knows and looks at them. You should have seen the stare when I said I was trading in a small home modeling amp and a low quality amp for a higher priced quality amp.
I understand and agree, but I'm lucky to say, that I'm divorced and live alone with my 15 guitars! 😅
@@peterwalliste8232 😅
@@peterwalliste8232 Same😅😆
I put the Fluence pickups in my Epiphone Custom ebony. The gold Fishman Fluence look just like they should on a black and gold guitar. I love the flat sound for modeling. It gives you a consist place to start building the sound you want and they are SUPER flexible. I installed the Greg Kotch on a tele copy and they are great too. VERY adjustable and ZERO HUM at any volume !!! .. which is fantastic for recording. In fact, I would say the best thing about these is how good they are for recording and studio use.
Do you feel like you lose any of that bluesy fizz that you get with the edge of break up?
@@Steve-qn8gn Maybe.. they are really clean, even if you sometimes don't want it too clean.
@@jaywill530Single coil noiseless too?
@@guyincognito320 YES .. great single coil sound
I bought one of these and I like the pickups but mine had a terrible fret sprout problem. I’ll get it fixed. Good review on the pickup options.
Fishmans are my favorite pickups. I think this guitar for $699 is a bargain. I have the Xtura Prophecy and love it.
All of my guitars have standard gibson or Gibson custom shop pickups. I was not sure how I would find one of these, but bought the SG variant and the guitar has a great feel and is well worth the price.
Historically I have played metal, but of late am spending about 80% of my time playing blues. The Prophecy I am using for more of the metal end of the spectrum. Other music like the blues or country, actually sound okay on the prophecy, I just prefer the sound from guitars like the R8 or the SG 63 reissue with P90s.
As an only guitar, and for somebody that plays a variety of music, but with a bias towards metal this would be a great guitar.
The clean tone with a sprinkling of reverb also sounds great on these, the clarity on those pickups is great. In many ways some of the best pickups you will find in any epiphone - although the 498/490 combo in the new Epi LP Custom would take some beating as they are ultra versatile
This Prophecy series is amazing, i have a Prophecy Futura EX with EMGs
Just got an olive tiger used from the first owner whom never played it! Steal of a deal. This guitar is soo nice it’s hard to believe it’s retails for under $1100 new! Wow it’s easily my favorite. I fully built out an ltd eclipse with invade jazz combo, earvAnna nut, pro setup, hipshot locking tuners and that is my backup. The prophecy out of the box has everything u would want already on it. Sounds absolutely incredible for high gain stuff which is what I play
Just bought an Epiphone Explorer prophecy. Can't wait to hear the Fishmans. Thanks for the review!
Congrats! Enjoy your new guitar and thanks for watching
Love it!
Great review as always! At that price, this guitar is massive bang for the buck winner. Great looks, high-end features and a gig-worthy package. I'll give it a look 👍 God bless and rock on 😎🎸
Shaped like an "airplane wing" is a great description of the asymmetrical neck carve. I have hated changing batteries my entire life. Playing guitar is hard enough for me as it is. I definitely don't need more to worry about when it comes to gear. However, that is a nice looking instrument.
Changing a battery is a big deal?
There’s a lot there to like , it looks fantastic and it has very nice appointments but it’s not for everyone, the Fishman pups are are definitely for new metal and won’t appeal to the masses but it’s a great instrument and the price makes it hard to beat
i had one of the olive tiger les pauls and the adam jones signature custom delivered the same week. what a huge difference between these 2 guitars. both are great sounding and play smooth. its a great contrast between the 2, modern vs norlin. great video as always.
Great review as always. Thanks again
Dude, seriously. I was never an active pickup guy. Never played any, but I’m not sure what you running out of. You made those sound killer. Dang, I might havta get me one now.
Give me that with some P-90's
Kinda wish they would do a Modern LP with P-90s and phase switch 🤩
I have Fishman active humbuckers on my Ovation VXT and they sound amazing! I'm just not a fan of active pick-ups needing the 9V battery; otherwise this humbucker sound is awesome on my VXT!
I was interested in this guitar for the features!
Ebony board, 24 frets, Never had a Fishman pup before.
Would really love to hear someone put this things through it's paces, from everything from melt your face METAL to deep, dark sweaty, dripping Blues.
Since it sounds so surprisingly good clean.
The more reviews I watch, I think this thing can go either way in the hands of a really experienced player!
Would love to see that, and I'm down with the Olive Tiger paint finish!
I do this. It is amazing. I play jazz clean, tube rectifier. It’s ridiculously articulate. In metal, it’s semi-compressed (good way) and it plays with my tubes, amp sims, and solid state BOSS really well. I’ll be honest, I pick up my Gibson standard way less since I’ve had it.
@@Brkprsn Would you say it's better than an LTD?
As the prices have sky rocketed for these, they're almost in a similar price range?
Different hardware, but construction-wise how much of a difference?
Those pickups are wild. Not a fan of 9v though. Enjoy the breakdowns you do here! Love the beatle green Gibson!
Best of luck to everyone! But this Epi doesn’t look half bad.
I was considering a gibson les Paul, but fur the price much cheaper, and I’m usually playing stray style guitars, I think I’ll give it a try, nothing like adding another guitar to the collection, thanks for reviewing.
Hi great demo but i curious this guitar have neck volute ?
Great pickups for metal
Hey great demo thank you very much I've decided to go ahead and pull the trigger on one of these I'm going to order the black one but I just went in to check the price and its back up to 899
That's a metal monster tone machine cool.
Also, great review on this Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy, loved this guitar, and yes those Fishman Fluance pickups are active pickups meant for playing with high gain and metal sounds. Great for hard rock, and all styles of metal music. There not really designed for playing blues, jazz, country, and other styles of music.
Greg Koch would disagree
These are not EMGs. Fishmans are much more versatile.
@@HAbarneyWK from all the reviews I’ve heard, I would agree with the OP. I don’t think you can get that blues//jazz sound that les Paul’s are historically known for. Even with all the switch and presence effects.
Not veneer but a real thick (thicker than what the definition of what a veneer is) maple flame top
Say… that green guitar. Is it an R8 or 9 or something or just a custom color built on that side or? It sure is nice man
Fishman is best pick up for now, so versatile.. for mid range guitar is perfect match worth to value, i really want epi matt heafy custom shop
does anyone know how well this guitar plays with clean and low gain tones? at least compared to something like a epi les paul modern
the 18 fret neck join on the Prophecy LP currently is the best LP. the older 16 fret neck join looked stupid with the 24 fret. I still prefer the SG EX from the 2008 release. i wish they kept the 3 knob variation on the LP like an ESP does.... once you've left the LP format ESP is the best
The fishman sound okay but not my thing. I don't want any extra electronics. I don't even like the plug,- in pickups they're using on the Gibson side. Don't get me wrong I get it, it's a nice feature. But I'd rather be able to use any pickup I want & not have to cut one apart to apply the plug to the newer pickups. Every pick up in the world I can still use except for those. Well minus a couple that are proprietary
👍👍🎸🎸👍👍🤠🤠
Hello! I'm a little confused with the Fishman 9 Volt Battery.... Are the pick ups battery powered? Does that mean you actually have to charge them regularly to play the guitar?
Yes
I have one complaint about the battery connection. I have an older prophecy with the EMG pickups, and they could stand to make the battery connection with a bit more wire. It's a fight at times for me to get it to connection. I have a Schecter with EMG'S, and it just slides in. A great design.
Sweet
"Enigma" ( but it works).👍🏻
How about doing a demo review on the Epiphone 1961 SG Standard with/Vibrola Bar.
I got the black one a couple of months ago, setup was absolute crap, once I'd done a little work on it it's absolutely fantastic, can't put it down
Gotta say! The sound is manipulated like it's a governor on an engine. And it doesn't leave you room for play. It's loud, but no menacing effect, and the thing is just, I'm not there with it.
i wish the lp modern had this colour..
I’m begging you to do in update video in six months or so. In just one month, my Les Paul Prophecy started cracking at the headstock and neck. The pots started to fail, my toggle switch started to fail, and my battery terminal came loose causing a disconnect from the battery.
I loved the guitar but it fell apart so quickly.
I think I’m gonna buy some Custom Buckers from Zzzzounds. Just to try the across the border to Canada thing. I’ve bought a bunch of stuff from Germany ( Thomann) to Canada. But nothing from US to Canada. I think I’ll try that. Not a big investment for an experiment
That finish, though...more like "sunstroke".
pearloid/abalone inlays
Great sound but the battery thing and lack of information with it a manual would be essential to me
Need a manual for a guitar? If it’s for the pickups, it’s pretty simplistic
Not to 50k yet? Because I am dying to see it arrive at my house! 😊 I wish it wasn't a raffle type deal and idk how you're doing it. If it was for best true story and that person gets it I'd have to be too 5, but if anyone else gets it I d be glad for them also!
almost a tommy bolin esque. nice playing
I have had my LP prophecy for 6 months now..I always wanted an LP, but never liked Gibsons..too heavy, chunky, expensive..This came out and I was all over it..Satin Finish, ebony fretboard, jumbo frets, locking tuners, weight and neck are A+.
The pickups are decent, as they are middle of the pack Fishmans..I like the neck pickup, but I find the Bridge pickup so so..
The 9 volt battery terminal adaptor is way too short..they missed on that one
I’m going to keep the guitar, because I find it suprisingly good for acoustic and clean sounds.
The neck has already bowed, so I expect the need to intonate once a year..I don’t think the guitar came with a truss rod.
I'm looking for a weight relief Epiphone Les Paul. I like faded or satin finishes, factory burst type looks. my budget is about $900 Which ones are lighter? Thinking about maybe going with LTD ec-1000 version. I think these look better. Thoughts? Also, I'm a beginner
Why do reviewers never play tunes.
Lots of noise and notes but no tunes.
Is it because they can't play?
Literally the most ignorant comment on a guitar review I have ever seen
Let's just say... It sounds a LOT better than it looks 😜
I don’t know, it looks badass
Tune your guitar next time on demo. Good review.
Circuit boards? Batteries? No. Now I know why the price dropped on these models.
Hope I win the give away. my daughter been asking for a electric guitar and I just can't afford to buy her. 😭
It took exactly 3 minutes to hate this thing.
Sounds like schitt clean. Tones suck baalz!
why does every new guitar heed a battery? Doesn't sound that great either.
That's a different sound..
Wow.. first time seeing these pick ups, talk about taking a step or two away from tradition. Not sure how I feel about these to be honest but I do love the finish, specially at that price.
Made in China…no thanks. Those pickups probably have some kind of embedded data gathering capability that lets
the CCP learn what you’re playing😅
Can’t stand the way they use so much black on the burst on top. Why the F do they do that so much? I wanna get one of these but that much black looks horrible. But the guitar is absolutely sick. The Baluch aged gloss one is cool but, I have a trillion black guitars. Come on Gibson stop doing the “ burst so badly
Nice guitar but the pickups sound terrible
Just not a fan of the china epi
I hear the sound but.... there's just no in depth soul to those pickups. Despite your great guitar playing as usual, they just sound flat to me.
Still waiting for the giveaway sir ❤️
