I knew something was wrong with him; especially, when the twins started acting strange.
This was my first Persona game, and even I was a bit surprised that a guy looking like that could have a deep ass voice. But I shrugged and thought it was just a weird VA casting decision.

Actually, Satanael is closer to Lucifer in the SMT interpretation rather than Satan, he just has that name due to the common association of Lucifer and Satan. He represents rebellion.

I want to take a moment to appreciate the symbolism of Satanael being the ultimate persona of the protag. We all know Satan in SMT universe is not a rebellious chaos dude but one of God's top underlings, the guy tasked with pass Judgement to others, and for fans who remember SMT 2, the guy who is even willing to shoot both humanity and god in the face to pursue what it sees as true justice.
They could have gone the easy way and make a new design of Lucifer as the ultimate persona, but they decided to use Satanael, the rebellious demon who eventually went back and worked for law as a judge.
So what does that say for our protag? Well, he is pretty clearly stated to not gonna be a phantom theif forever, but the desire to reform society seems to truly be there, specially if we take into consideration his interactions with politician confidant man. Not to mention, a big chunk of the fandom expects him to become in charge of some public service position eventually (though no idea if Atlus confirmed or denied that).
The demon rebel, casted aside by the world and stigmatized as evil, who would defy the norms and later was swallowed back into the system and worked from inside to make it better.
Sounds indeed a good end for Joker
The demiurge isn’t “The God”, it’s a deity created by the Aeon Sophia that arrogantly believes it’s the creator of the material plane. Satanael in this case basically frees the world from his grasp.

Lucifer Aizhlumendei Well he was only demonized by Yaldabaoth in Gostnissim Satanael was a servant of the True God that created the universe and mankind's souls Yaldabaoth only crated the phisical plane as a result of this he was sent in the form of the Serpent to give man the power to rebel agenst the false god just as they did here. Also funny thing is Satan and Lucifer are mixed up in SMT Lucifer was the devil's name when he was working for God as his arbiter and Satan is the title he was given upon becomeing the devil while in SMT they're 2 separate entities Lucifer as the rebelling fallen angel and Satan as the Arbiter. There's at least 8 different interpretations of the Devil in SMT but Sataneal is one of the more interesting ones.

so, all together, this game is a combination of the following
1. xenoblade chronicles
2. metal gear rising: revengance
3. litteraly any christmas movie that involves the villian turning out to be the good guy (because satan saved christmas, not yaldabaoth)
4. a combination of buddihts beliefs, combined with medival legends, combined with all forms of mythology
5. every other persona game but with their mechanics improved.
6. JoJo's Bizzare Adventure
and 7. Asura's wrath
this is a damn, big, and great game

It's actually kind of meh. I think the dungeons could have been shorter. Also for a game based on freedom and rebellion, apparently you are screwed without superpowers. So much for an empowering message.
BlackSkullHeart well remember their personas were like they're hidden powers of rebellion they were the ones chosen due to having strong feelings in a way you can interpret it as you can release those powers if you are strong enough you have to have to have strong enough will courage grit determination and all that to release YOUR persona
Hewdraw king25 There is no interpretation. It showed that they were powerless in reality. If they didn't have the metaverse it wouldn't matter how strong they felt they could still do nothing.
So once again another creator makes power unattainable and show how powerless people are. Bear in mind that they could ONLY solve their issues because the metaverse existed.

Ryuji without Power Charge and Gods Hand is such a letdown to his damage potential
Kotori-nyan i used to feel like that about Chie
Kotori-nyan he may not have had the opportunity to get God's Hand
Ryuji does have Agneyastra and God's Hand but only if he's Lvl. 70 and above
And he deals 1k+ to the final boss then. I overlvled and killed him in a few turns. God hand, ultimate flame skill and hassou tobi.
Although Swift Strike outclasses Agneyastra more regularly despite that level he gets them at... Power Charge and God's Hand are Ryuji's true power spikes.

I really enjoyed this bossfight, and he kept his speeches a lot shorter than Nyx avatar, which was nice.
ANd thank god we no longer have undefeatable bastards as last bosses. Nyarl was fine since he could be at least set back, but Nyx and Erebus was just a bullshit downer of an idea. So humanity will always wish for death so it can't be defeated? Don't give me that crap.
I can't believe how awesome the English voice of Yaldabaoth sounds. Surely gives the japanese VA a run for his money and it's quite close to it too.

Wrath - Cognitive Wakaba (anger and hatred towards her own child for "killing her")
Greed - Okumura (seeks personal fame through the abuse of others)
Envy - Sae (desire to seek her definition of true justice by capturing those who boast their own)
Pride - Shido (seeks the power and charisma to lead others)
ShycoWar Vanity and Pride are the same thing and futaba is sloth but who cares about details.

(Anyway.. in gnostic, Ialdabaoth isn't Jesus's father. Since Jesus is sent by Highest Deity.)

Vdiffuser Well, Igor DID get his ass handed to him by the Holy Grail and spent the entirety of the game chained up in the Velvet Room while his nemesis impersonated him and badtardized the Velvet Room as a base for mass murder and corruption while sabatoging Joker's campaign at every possible turn.
And he let his assistant get cut into two beings.
And yet he still seems to consider this a "job well done" on his part, when he really didn't do shit other than tell the Grail he was being a moron.
And yet he also made Morgana to make sure the job got done even when he was chained up, thus ensuring Humanity didn't get enslaved. There's worse ways to go than getting your lights knocked out by God/Yaldaboath. Humanity's safe, Contract's fulfilled, Point proven, God outgambitted. I'd say that's a job well done given the circumstances...wouldn't you? Especially given the other stuff that's happened in the series. *cough* persona 2 *cough*
Vdiffuser Igor actually worked for the closest thing to the Persona series has to a Monotheistic God, Philemon. Who is one of the most primal gods of the franchise
mmm...yes and no. Philemon is based off the figure of the same name in Carl Gustav Jung's Red book. A spirit guide to humanity of sorts. He's pretty powerful, but he's not capitol God like Yaldaboath is. Unfortunately, Atlus seems to like shoving Philemon (and his opposite, Nyarlathotep) into the sidelines and pretending they don't really exist. A crying shame. Especially since this boss is the closest we've gotten to Nyarl since then.
There no material problem you can't solve by summoning Satan to shoot something through the problem's face.

Did anyone notice right after he says "Pillage him, Satanael!" He presses the button to use his persona and you can just faintly hear him scream "PERSONNAAAA" Because Satanael is so fucking huge compared to the other personas lol.
The way the counter goes up and hits 100% is just too fucking epic. It was just so well done and it was the thing I least expected to happen. Other than Satan saving christmas that is.

The "power of belief saves the day" is such a cliche in anime, but holy hell this game pulls it off SO WELL. Base your powers off of the recognition of the mind and it works
Although it’s a cliche, I still love it if it’s done right, like this game did. Okami is another game that used the power of belief in a really awesome way.
It works here because the creators knew exactly how to engage the player with the characters involved. By the end of the game, I simply didn't want it to end because I'd grown attached to these characters. For a work of fiction, that's a remarkable achievement.

But hey, Atlus definitely nailed the use of the whole "friendship and bonds overcome all" cliche. Cliches aren't always good, but when people get smart and know how to incorporate them perfectly into the writing, the end result surely isn't dissapointing.
And bonds and teammate makes this scene more dramatic.

100 hours. Nowadays I cant play a game for more than 30 minutes. But I loved Persona 4 and I loved Persona 5. This ending was amazing. The way Satanael hold that huge gun without even a single word.

Truth be told, I'm not sure the Grail really thought his plan out in full. He blatantly rigged the game in Aketchi's favor by giving him a head start and WAAAAAY more powers, did nothing about the drugs that nearly caused Joker to forget his gambit, and when Joker still won, blamed him for society's apathy... and hates the masses despite being created by the collective will (which shouldn't technically be possible unless the majority of humanity is inherently suicidal).
All in all, the Grail seems to be more like a Cognition of God rather than being the real thing here... still powerful and able to act on its own, but woefully ignorant of the big picture, just like the cognitive Aketchi was.
Since the Grail is a Treasure, it is indeed a cognition. So...
