- How to Solder Prongs onto a Molten Setting- I will demonstrate how we positioned and soldered prongs on one at a time on an eneven, molten setting. This jewelry soldering setup was tricky, so I will show and explain exactly how to solder the prongs on the setting successfully and in the right spot. Lots of beginner goldsmiths are nervous learning to solder gold jewelry but I will show that goldsmithing techniques are based on the same jewelry soldering principles I teach in my book and all of my videos.
This jewelry making soldering technique is the same whether goldsmithing or silversmithing.

Beautiful! Helpful technique.
I am so glad you enjoyed it 😃
I absolutely love how you show us work in real time. There's so much futzing that goes into jewelry making and by working in real time, it helps me not get so frustrated when I am having to futz around. I do have a question. At the end you describe the actual setting - so the prongs will just get pushed over the stone? No seat being cut into the prongs, is that correct?
Jewelry Making is SO time consuming! It would be malpractice not to show that, lol. With our rose cut stone, we won't cut a seat in the prongs. We will just press the prongs over the stone. There will be a video! :)
Hi Jeanette, thank you so much for showing this technique. I’m becoming obsessed with using melted silver as part of my jewellery making! Do you have a final picture of the stone set in this ring?
Hi Cherry I think I posted it in the final video but I will have to check on that. It’s possible I haven’t finished editing yet…. Molten metal is SUCH fun. 😃
Beautiful!
Could you do a video on making a moulted bezel with the stone already in it so it melts around it!
The only way you can do that is with electroforming.
Sorry, as Pauline said below, that won't work unless electroforming.
@@JewelryArts I found a video on it. You pour the moulted metal around it apparently.
@@JustME-ft4di That really isn't a thing in goldsmithing but you never know what someone might come up with. :)
@@JewelryArts The video was by a professional jeweller.
“Anything straight up in the air will flow and do many naughty things”. Oh so SO many naughty things….you’re lucky at least to have all those 3rd hands. It’s true what they say…..metal workers need 6 hands lol
Just think what we could make with 6 hands!! :)
