Watching that made me wish they never would've got rid of the cabovers. Lol
Slow down in bad conditions and don't follow too closely either.
Especially in a cabover because if you get into a crash with another semi in one, you get smashed. Of course nowadays cabovers aren't as common in the USA as they use to be back in the 1980s & down.
@@KevinRichards-rk3gp I never considered that about cabovers, but you're so correct. I do follow a guy who drives a 1984. Easy to make those tight corners.
@@JanesDough855 yes they were although they were more dangerous. In a crash in a conventional cab, you have a bigger chance to survive & not get injured as bad than in a cabover because you're away from the front end of the frame for better protection. Main reasons why the cabovers have gone extinct was because the laws for max length & weight have changed. In other words, the length & weight limits have increased which allow conventional cabs to pull longer trailers & carry heavier loads. Also stuff like in video #8 is another reason why cabovers phased out.
@@KevinRichards-rk3gp They also do not have room for a frig or nuker. To work on the engine has to be a real pain.
@@JanesDough855 I bet they took more time to work on than conventional cabs too because the mechanic has to jack tilt the whole cab up for access to the motor. Not only that, the driver's lose stuff inside the cab will get thrown around everywhere & leave a mess inside & sometimes break the windshield too. A few semi mechanics told me conventional cabs are easier to work on than cabovers.

The reason for all the idiots with CDL these days. I just saw the story in Massachusetts where a few state troopers were arrested for taking bribes for giving CDL to drivers who couldn't pass the skills test 😢
The same thing happened in Virginia a couple of years ago, and I bet this is happening in every state in the country based on the quality of drivers on the roads. This is clear proof that no one cares about the safety of our highways 😢

Regularly grease your fifth wheel plate and spray the underside/mechanism. You’ll also have to do this more frequently in the winter. Especially where salt is used. Plus tug test and actually looking at the handle and the jaws when hooking up. …ahhh hell. What do I know anyways? I’m just talking out my ass.
If only rookies and swifties would take the time to do this. I did this all the time because the jack plate and kingpin are the 2 most crucial points on any tractor trailer. But then again we wouldn't be as entertained by swifts best in crash regularly dropped trailer shenanigans 🤣
@@anarchyxf36 if they only knew that success and longevity in this profession is not based upon speed, it’s based upon consistency. Slow and steady wins the race. For example. Taking a 30 seconds to check to make sure you’re hooked up properly is a lot quicker than having to call the boss telling him you dropped a trailer and then having the wrecker come lift up the trailer. But..let them keep doing what they’re doing. I also like watching the videos.
I keep a little screw top bucket filled with red and tacky and a generous supply of nitrile gloves in the truck just for that occasion. I do a lot of drop & hook and one thing my father taught me at a very young age is if the roads are slick, your 5th wheel better be slicker.
Me personally i always kept a box of grease gun tubes along with a grease gun of red n tacky for winter time and marine grease in the summer so i could grease up the 5th wheel before hooking up depending on milage i had to haul. My general rule of thumb was to grease it every 2 loads under 500 or before every load over 500. My other rule was to do an tug test no matter what after hook up or before taking off whenever i had to either stop or leave the truck in addition to doing a thorough pre-trip before hook up and a quick simple pre trip whenever i had to stop and park for whatever reason.
But i was taught if i don't you tend to devolope a severe case of hand cuffs in addition to a severe case of empty wallet syndrome due to massive fines-itus 😉😆

Whenever I have someone spotting me, I always have my windows down so I can hear them, one eye on the spotter, and one eye where I am going. Never had a problem.
Some of those truck drivers are out there screwing with other people's trucks while they are on their sleep time and then they are sitting back in their trucks and recording the the drivers when they wake up and attempt to drive off without doing a pre-trip. It's all fun and games until the same thing happens to them.
They have to be professionals, cause like lawyers they always seem to be practicing😳😳🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I was looking at the cul-de-sac the truck looked so absurd in that neighborhood I would have called the police or Highway Patrol to help me back out into a main road or something I would have never tried that not even with a 42 ft trailer it was extremely tight

The clip involving the Bob-tail: I don't consider the bob-tail driver to be a "bonehead" since he/she was smart enough to realize that the cammer wasn't in his truck as well and moved up and fueled. Obviously the idiot cammer was worried more about making a stupid video than proceeding up and fueling which makes him a bonehead as well.
In the winter with snow on the ground, set tractor wait 30 seconds. release move fwd or back about 1/2 ft. wait a minute and move again . do that so the tires do not sink into the snow and ice. after 5 minutes of this set trailer or spot a 4 X 4 in front of axle and pull against then set tractor. If tension is on the jaws jackass cannot pull your pin!
