Very nice collection and it deserves a very nice display. You might want to consider a "Barrister's Bookcase." They are generally made as modular stacking boxes with a glass front that is hinged at the top. No offense meant to your friend's collection, but anybody can have glass shelves that look like they came from some cheap furniture store. Your collection deserves a place of pride worthy of its importance and value. Google barristers bookcase and you will see what I mean. They not only look great, but are also built to last through many of your family's generations. I have a set from my grandfather that still look like the day they were made. The video I would like to see? One of each, of course.

As an 1/43 collector, when you pulled out the hpi triple set, i got goosebumps. I’d give my left one for the Sauber-Mercedes set, but the Porsche or Jaguar sets are just as awesome.
That exoto xjr-9 is just breathtaking, btw. Also, while getting a xjr in 1/43 might be easier than 1/18, actually sourcing one with the silk cut decals took me months of patient eBay watching (thank you, seller from France!)
Currently, I’m only one TWR XJ-S etcc car away from finishing my racing jaguar collection and as much as I spend on models, the technology and stories they all represent never fail to bring joy to my life.

Beautiful collection. I am also an obsessive model collector (mainly 1/16 tanks and 1/32 lead soldiers) and I can tell you that you must get them out on display. The joy of a collection for me is to see it all together and be able to compare items. You just need some decent glass cabinets. Enjoy your wonderful cars. Every time you walk past the cabinets you will stop and admire them. It will make you happy every day. I have 6 separate collections (models, amber, ancient silver jewellery, meteorites, prehistoric stone tools and RC vehicles) and they are all on display. My whole house is a collection. I admire them all the time. Pretty sure Buddhism is not for me...

The exoto is the only one that's kinda in its real value. That's what happens when you don't know where to buy nor investigate enough before doing a purchase. I have a few 1:24 scale Le mans cars, the Nissan GT-R LM in several different liveries, a Corvette Z06LM one or two P2 cars and a Patrick Dempsey Racing 911GTLM that is signed (on the clear case) by the man himself. I also have 1:48 Delta Wing. And two 1:24 Alonso Benetton F1 cars both signed (again on the case) by Mr Alonso. I don't have any cirtification for the signatures, I just got them signed when at races, but hope it raises there value a little.

I'm also into collecting models but for me I prefer to build them rather than die cast or anything. Recently finished a 2017 fiesta wrc and am currently working on a Porsche 917K in martini livery. Im mostly a model aircraft builder though. I build from kits but often scratch build detail

I myself am a Mazda Motorsports nut. I have been looking for a 1/18 scale 1990 Mazda GTO model. Also the BK Motorsports courage LMP2 car the Lola backbone bp fuels Mazda the 2008 speedsource #70 rx8 ( I was Deadman for that car at the 24hours at Daytona that year which we won) and the new rt24 Mazda. All above in 1/18 or 1/10 scale the 787 b car is a must but since they are everywhere I don't feel the need to buy one. Anyway any help locating any of the above I need them for my shops office

I will gladly see a video on the Peugeot, just because there have been a lot of videos about Porsches & Audis out there compared to this.
For me, the car model that I'm gonna get (if i have the money) is definitely the Toyota TS020/GT-One. It's just the coolest car I've ever seen and growing up with Gran Turismo.. It's no question why i loved the GT-One.

obviously the Porsche 917k and the RS Spyder ...I used to own the 917k winner of Le mans 1970 (1:18 Autoart), as well as the DHL RS Spyder ... now they are getting kinda expensive though ...

Never understand why people get loads of basically the same or similar cars! The Jag to get is not a winner, but the XJR-14 which is a beauty. The winning ones offend my eyes! But nice collection. Would love to see the Porsche RS Spyder and I'm adding a 1:43 of that to my want list...very pretty car, something about those headlights. I always liked LMP2s with their open cockpits.

None of these models floats my boat. However Ixo do make a 1:8 Scale Citroen DS. that has opening windows, even fuel flap opens, It Costs £900. it is over 600mm long, Trouble is I do have grand children, and they always want to play with my 1:18 model (road) cars. So I cannot buy it, that and the wife says there is no place to keep it - Although our coffee table is ideal size.

Hey Mike, get yourself a pair of cotton gloves, that way you will not leave fingerprints on the models. They are cheap as chips and will save my OCD when you make another video on your models.
I have only one model, it’s I/18 scale and a race car too. The Holden VK Group C Commodore that won the 1984 Bathurst 1000. The detail that modellers can achieve are amazing.
Thanks for sharing your collection Mike.

Exoto started in California with a manufacturing base in China and later on when the cost of manufacturing increased in China they moved to the United Arab Emirates. They constructed their own factory line. The move to UAE proved to be a fatal mistake as the cost didn't go down and eventually they priced themselves out against the tough competition from CMC.
CMC coming in with a manufacturing base in China and releasing the Ferrari 156 F1 Sharkenose was a big blow for Exoto.
The company exists but they don't manufacturer models anymore. I think they loan/rent their excellent molds to other model manufacturers.
Exoto is a victim of its owner ego who insisted on pricing his models at prices that put them outside the reach of the majority of model collectors. That bread of collectors who are willing to buy close to US$ 700 doesn't exist anymore.
By the way, CMC is on the same path with its latest releases, for example, the 600 Pullman, a nice and highly detailed model but would pay above Euro 750 or you can get a model for the same car at US$ 300 from AutoArt. The majority of collectors will go with the AutoArt model because all these features in the model won't be used or used frequently because they are bron to break with use.

So my first bad habbit was model cars, 1/24 and 1/25 scale. The plastic ones you just put together and paint yourself. Lately I have been building 1/10 scale rc cars, monster trucks, and scale 4x4s Man this was so cool.

Kinda creepy....yes I knew a grown man that had a "car collection"...in plastic, and rather small, about 150mm long. These guys obviously had difficult & deprived childhoods...all the toys they never had at 6 years-old...now they are making up for these "missing" toys...do they go Vroom vroom with these along the floor when nobody is looking?

Too bad we can't share photos on RUclips. I've got a massive collection of model cars. Mostly 1/43rd, but a few 1/18ths, a few more 1/24 scale, and some 1/87th & 1/64s to boot. It's an addiction I need to address....

Surprised that they titled this in the third person since he’s probably the one who put the video up. That’s quite strange. I think a better title would have been “Mike Fernie’s Model Car Collection Is Worth More Than His Actual Car.” When it’s James May answering questions the title isn’t “This Man Answers The Internet’s Questions,” is it?

Mike, I loved your collection & appreciate you sharing it with us. You come across as a genuine & decent bloke. Forgive me if I've misjudged it but you don't seem as though actually do suffer from ocd. Again, my sincere apologies if I have this wrong. My son suffers from ocd. It is a debilitating condition which ruins lives & not something to be taken lightly when referring to a normal level of care taken with precious possessions. Please don't take offence. I am not angry, just slightly too sensitive about a very serious mental health condition that most people shrug off as being just about light switches & keeping things tidy. Love the channel. A £900 st200 is a bargain. Do you want to sell it?

I happened to have a Tamiya 1/24 XJR-9 model when I was a kid. Don't remember what happened to it, as I still have most of my models. But I was never really into racing stuff. I'm more of a fan of street cars and trucks. But since I'm from eastern europe I can'T even afford a huge collection of model cars.

nice collection. 2 race winning cars driven by Dutch ex-F1 racers. Lammers in the Jag and Jos 'the Boss' Verstappen in the RS Spyder.
Personally i make a point of buying a 1 to 43 model of all the cars i have ever owned. No, none of them are supercars.

Do NOT glue that wing in place on the Exoto XJR-9. I've had the 1988 race winner from Exoto, and I believe the rear bodywork cannot be removed when the wing is in place. Also, you cannot pack it when moving or selling it since you cannot remove it anymore, at least not without damaging it.

I have a "Speedway of the South" racer set from the first Cars movie with Lightning McQueen, which is worth more than all your cars together, and in fact the Apple Car is worth £1000 alone. Limited to 1000 sets means these sets are rare if you haven't let your kids loose on the 36 cars...which most people did 😂
