- This is a big one - we set Richard Hammond the task of crowning his favourite Grand Tour challenge car, by creating a tournament format. Grab a note pad, play along and see if you end up with the same result!

I named my Honda after John, solely because of the amount of sticky situations he’s gotten me out of. John (from the show) was a truly wonderful machine.

Was honored when they named it John, because Johns are dependable. Was heartbroken when it lost in the first round. That truck was brilliant. Truly a shame that it had to be destroyed.

Watching that special I can see why he didn’t choose it I as a viewer I would choose it but him as the one who had to experience it I don’t blame him
John was more of a team car too. Not just Richard’s. Wonder if that played into his decision.

The Mongolian adventure remains my most-watched Grand Tour episode and John was a big part of the appeal.
It seems the most honest one to me. There were no skits, no camera trickery--just the boys facing genuine hardship on a real adventure.

I think Ive genuinely watched it about 5/6 times so far lol. Its probably my favourite special out of both Top Gear and GT. It easily put Mongolia on my bucket list of places to visit. What a magnificent episode and country.

John gets my vote because he was hilarious to watch at times - especially bouncing up the hills.
I'm shocked that John wasn't in the top 2... the Mongolian special is our all-time favorite. Story, cinematography, the journey, everything was just great.

John was a legend. No other vehicle could have gotten through what John went through, having to deal with those 3 goofballs.
John was the only car who kept the trio and theirs nonsense all through out mongolia, he had heart and soul, and hopped over our hearts.
As soon as he called it Martin, the competition was over! I hope Martin and Oliver are very happy together in his garage.
Hammond gotta be the only guy to say "if you've just joined us" towards the end of a youtube video. That's some classical film and radio training right there.

My favourite car you’ve driven on the Grand Tour has to be the Subaru from the Scandi Flick. Such a stunning car.

Richard is the reason for my love of wrx's. From the africa special 'heart of the nile' i said I am gonna go get one of those for myself and I did.

The Focus was a brilliant build. Unfortunately it didn't work as well as it could have. Loved the tank in Dubai 😂 The Dodge Demon and Hellcat seemed to give you a great smile factor.
This was the video I've always imagined I wanted to see because the series is coming to an end next year and would love to see the other 2 join the trend as well !
John and the Mongolian special remains my absolute favourite adventure that the boys have done.
Like a mother giving birth, you unpacked, assembled, drove and coerced it as it essentially delivered you from the middle of nowhere. Respect!

I'm glad to see Martin made it out the champ. As an original owner of a USDM 2004 STi , black with gold wheels (first year in the US). I still look at it lovingly as I walk out my house to get in to my work-issued boremobile every morning.
Don't ever sell it! I sold mine in the UK and have regretted it ever since... (Black 2004, Sti PPP Type UK, gold rims replaced with black with diamond cut edges).

the Subaru is such an amazing car , I absolutely loved it from the special and it makes me really happy that Richard actually bought and still drives it

Bewildered that John would be out first round. That's a top 5 car in these three's career. Just goes to show how much they hate each other, that a brilliant car suffered just because they all fit in it.

Happy to see the WRX on top, i have mine for nearly 10 years now and it got to a point where it felt.. maybe it was time. But rewatching the show and the followup 'rebuild' of the car, i just smile each time i sit in the car again. No, it aint a STI (though it got the exhaust and spoiler), but for me it remains 1 of the most beatifull cars ever build. If i only i would give it more 'care' :(
The Scarab was so awesome! I looked up its Sale in Florida when the Special came out, had new engines and new drives, a real dream machine.
I have a 2014 STI hatchback, and I absolutely love it.

I'll be honest: I would have bet all my money on John, but it didn't even make it past the first stage. I understand it might have been a miserable experience, but the Mongolia special was just glorious.
We have had 14 rounds of "Semi-finals" all leading to 1 final. Fantastic.

I'm surprised they they never had a Plymouth Prowler on top gear or grand tour.
John or Martin were always my top picks. John quite literally hopped his way into getting you some alcohol, and Martin, well i don’t think there was any other car you had quite as much fun in as Martin
That turned out exactly as I expected 😂. I've owned an STI of that generation and sold it during the pandemic for more than I paid for it. Got my 57 Bel Air, which was a dream car of mine, but have recently considered selling it for an SSR.
Hammond is still so young how can you end grand tour with just another special, come on drivetribe just have Richard doing grand tour alone I will watch it

Can you restore the Buick Riviera soon? it looks so awesome and it gives me massive Due South nostalgia, because one of the main characters of that show had a green 72 riviera for the main vehicle.
As Richard said: it's such a great representation of that car maker at that time that I imagine there must no temptation to seriously modify, only restore/replace. So it could be a smooth operation.

Between Geoff and John, it's hard to decide. Definitely tough to decide between Bolivia and Middle East. I believe the best moment is probably the big dramatic entrance after his injury. All the dancing girls and everything. You were absolutely staggered.

I was suprised for some choices. But still think it would be great for a new Grand Tour that they choose each others cars.
That last sentence made me think of my first car, a Toyota Carina E 1992, with 2l engine and 5 speed, man I miss that car...
I like how Hammond tried at least 6 times to declare what each round was and never got it right once.
The 72 Buick Boattail Riviera was the one that I picked as the winner based solely on style.
John would win it for me, the other cars were great, but John.........is just John. Such an epic episode, an epic adventure, with a car that should of probably not succeeded but did.
Havent seen all these yet, currently watching daily , hope this doesn't spoil it too mich

Top spot definitelt should have gone to John and I think tbh that episode would have made an excellent finale to the Grand Tour - one last epic journey, car that was built ‘by the lads’ and most importantly all together in the same vehicle having banter together instead of across the radios

I’m surprised that John didn’t achieve higher, even though from what I remember Richard never was able to drive him cause the other two wouldn’t let him, John was the only car that I remember that never broke down, he survived the bumpy meadow, his signature hop up hills, he even survived being drowned, justice for John ✊
Is that the Lego mustang on the shelf? My wife got me one as an anniversary present last month (it’s my dream car) and it was such a jot to build, with the attention to detail inside. Especially love the dodge charger silhouette in the mirror
