New time listener here, and I want to say, everyone involved did a fantastic job! Was listening to this in my car the other night, and I nearly felt like I was transported to the 40's or 50's. Only thing I feel was missing from this, was a filter to make it sound like it was coming from an old timey radio.
The cheese factor of stuff from this era is off the charts. I laughed quite a bit at this, but I kind of doubt this material's original audience felt the same. Entertaining, regardless. Truely sad that we've lost so much of such an important bookmark in our culture's entertainment. Here's hoping that fan efforts like this might lead to a resurgence in the Shadow's presence and popularity. Great work!
Well this is DC we are talking about here, not only they completely plagiarized Batman's and Joker's traits from The Shadow without giving credit but they also stole Superman's rights off from the original creators with a shitty backroom deal for a ridiculously small and insulting sum of money. So knowing the fact that they also ripped off Cain's template for Vandal Savage is not surprising, another reason to dislike DC more eh? :D
"You don't change sides when you fight evil." That exchange was so badass I immediately had to listen to it again. Great job Razor, and everyone involved. Also I'm pretty sure that KiteTales' voice cures cancer.
Thanks Rageaholic. My mom told me about the Shadow as I had my grubby little hands on a Miller Batman as a child. She scraped my neck with her sharp fingernails as she told me Batman was a ripoff of the Shadow. I bought a Captain America, best choice ever. Mrs. Mary passed last year. I took care of her through her Alzheimer's disease. In her nuttiness she would remind me that the Shadow knew. He was her childhood hero. I didn't know anyone else cared about the Shadow. Like I said thanks, and God's speed.
Well done to Razorfist and all the people involved in this. As someone who also grew up knowing and listening to the Shadow over the years this was a joy to listen to and only contributes to my feelings that radio dramas on the internet should be more commonplace. The last radio drama I listened to over the internet was the adaptation of the movie Pontypool, but considering that that movie took place in the radio booth (aside from one scene near the end) anyway, 95% of the audio was just the movie's audio with the other 5% recorded by the same cast.
This was a really well produced. Makes me wish for the era of radio plays again. Very well done, Razör and crew! Edit: Holy shit, that was YOU, Razor? I couldn't tell at all. Great work!
JEEZUS! this was freaking amazing! Razor, you made me a fan of the shadow ever since you began to bring him up, although specifically that quote from The coils of Leviathan (enough to want to dress up as him), but this... was a stroke of genius! you did a damn good Lamont AND The Shadow (they BOTH felt right). Asum fucking slaughtered the role of Adam Cain- i loved his linework! everyone else preformed well, but hot sweet shit that was amazing. ill add my voice to the numbers of those that would love to hear this kind of stuff more. its gotta be a pain to organize, but your done something so wonderful that I didn't see coming by breathing new life into these scripts. i know for a fuckin' FACT id sit down to hear more.
Amazing! Very well done. I do like how everyone delivered their lines with the proper old-timey affectation, which went a long way towards setting the tone and mood. Of particular note, the woman who played the sports clerk was a dead ringer for Arleen Sorkin, so much that I thought that's who it was at first! Great job all around to everyone who participated in this, and especially you, Mr. Fist, for bringing this amazing xharacter to my attention and resurrecting a lost art of superb drama.
That was sublime. Please, do more! I hope you don't take what I'm about to say as an insult because I love this but your Shadow is far superior to your Lamont Cranston. But the highlight for me, is Asum Jensen as Cain. His performance was almost chilling and menacing. I love it.
One would think Audible would do what Netflix did and start doing original content with audio dramas, starting with The Shadow. Like imagine how many starving voice actors would line the fuck up to be a part of that.
Easily the most talented performance there was Razor. You got great chops for voice acting, man, I sincerely hope you do more stuff like this. At the very least do more specials like this, this is by far the best video you've released to date.
It feels awesome to listen to a radio drama for the first time in a while. When I was younger I would listen to old radio dramas in the car when there was no good music on. The Shadow always stood out to me when it was on and this was a simply great recreation. I always noticed that Batman wasn't as original as thought but Vandal Savage also wasn't it seems. You also do a kickass Shadow impression.
hum interesting how similar this story is to DC comic villain Vandal Savage, I did check dates and the character came out one year before this radio drama but i wouldn't be surprise if they added some elements of this into Vandal's character later.
The voice work on this was fantastic! You do an exceptional job portraying the Shadow, and Asum was brilliant as Cain. And the Blue Coal ads! Real dedication there. I am curious though, what with Batman stealing from the Shadow, if Vandal Savage isn't based off of Cain.
As an aficionado of ably assembled anachronistic antiquities, let me tip my hat to you, good sir, and the entire team behind this gem! Also: I think Cain must have been a regular reader of Salon and Jezebel, seeing as he felt inclined to murder Sargon...
As a Die Hard Fan of Old Time Radio I was SO GLAD you gave us an opportunity to hear a Lost Episode! Please tell me this could become a thing on special occasions! You even included the Blue Coal commercials!! Rock ON!
Holy crap, this was amazing!. It felt so professionally made and I couldn't even notice you made the voice for Cranston/The Shadow. You did a great job camouflaging yourself. Cain's voice was also superb, so classy. Honestly this deserves a round of applause, I hope you do more in the future!.
Fantastic! Your only problem now is having to quit all videogaming, video making and Mythos manufacturing to make more of this magnificent mayhem. Bravo to all involved.
Man, from Orson Welles to Razorfist. A step down, but not as big of a step as I expected. I've listened to some of the original shadow shows, and this was way closer to them than I expected. Kudos to you for really trying to capture some of that original radio drama magic.
LOOOOVE IT! Brings me back to listening to my volume of the Radio show as a child! Wish you guys can do more. Sad that the Shadow isn't around as much as I wish he was....(secretly dreams of seeing a Shadow and Batman crossover movie on the big screen or The shadow having his own tv series or appearing in one of the DC shows)
That really was great, your hard work is very much appreciated. How did you manage to get hold of John Barclay, I thought he would have passed on by now.
It's a joke. John Barclay was a fictional character invented by the Coal company to be their 'expert'. He was played by at least three different people. All of whom have passed on.
I never realised that, I always thought he was a real person. Thanks for setting me straight anyway. :) Also I live in the UK, is there any way that I can get hold of The Shadow pulp reprints. I am really struggling to find them, the comics and graphic novels have been easy to get hold of.
Rick Hope Nostalgia Ventures / Sanctum Books are reprinting them all, two stories apiece, along with bonus material (such as the radio script this is adapted from). they ship internationally. Highly recommend them. You can buy directly from them, here: www.radioarchives.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=57
That's brilliant, thank you very much. I've really enjoyed the comics, radio show and the 1940's black and white serial, but without the pulps I feel like I am missing out on an important aspect of The Shadow character and story.
This is absolutely brilliant!!!! As someone who cosplays as The Shadow, I absolutely loved this!!! Would love to see more content on the character from you. It’s rare to find someone who appreciates him for trailblazer he is.
This was an excellent audio play, Razor. Ever since you introduced me to the Shadow, I've been listening to his Radio Plays and been watching the movie. I loved this audio play, you did an excellent job with it. I only hope that maybe you could make this a yearly thing? :3
This made my day and I love the fact that you did it so well. I was genuinely surprised to hear Sargon's voice in the beginning, but he, along with all the others, did exceptionally well with their roles. Great job, Razorfist. Keep up the good work and God Fucking Speed! EDIT: Honestly, I think these old radio shows need to make a comeback. If RUclipsrs have to do it themselves, then so be it.
You and Asum were great in this, Razor. Any plans to do more of these on future special occasions? (Also, holy shit, Vandal Savage. Is there anything in comic books the Shadow didn't do first?)
Oooh, you even did the commercials. Bravo! Nice touch! Makes it more like a real recording of an old radio show. And, even though I'm late to this party, it was still an excellent choice for a Hallowe'en themed program. Wish I could give it more than one thumbs up.
RazörFist, you marvellous clut! That was the most unique and entertaining thing I've seen (or rather, heard) this Halloween. Props to you and the rest of the cast.
Having listened to this for the third time, I'm super happy that you put something like this together Razor. I swear, sometimes I get pissed that you don't have a million subs or some shit. Great job!
Well done. Well done indeed. Would love to see more of The Shadow radio stuff done by you like this. And you are right, if you go to listen to this, minimize the window or something. It's so amazing to just listen to and have the images run through your head.
just AWESOME, professionally done,BRAV ISE BRAVO, my mother passed two.years ago tonight, it's been tough dealing with the Halloween, but you guys gave a great performance, thank you, happy Halloween!
What I most appreciate about Razör is his prodigious vocabulary. It's the reason I subscribed to his channel. Rarely do I find anyone whose wordsmithing ability rivals my own, and it is more extraordinary still when I encounter someone who uses a word that I don't already know. However, in the opening seconds of this video, I heard the word, "atramentous." Context gave me the likely meaning, but I have Merriam-Webster on speed dial and looked it up anyway. So thank you, Razörfist, the Rageahölic. Now I have another weapon in my verbal arsenal.
Well that was pretty fantastic. Asum Jessen's Cain was just perfect, probably the best performance (although most of them were amazing. Sargon's amused me quite a bit as well).
I also would've loved to have been involved in this, but alas I was beaten to the punch. Ah well, I'm sure there's a next time. Killer work Mr. Fist! (also it warms my heart to see you and Asa working together again, as God intended)
Considering I had just finished listening to my ancient MP3 digitization of the War of the Worlds broadcast, this was a welcome, yet strangely coincidental surprise. Well done to the cast. This made my night!
Simply amazing Sir Von Fist I tip my hat to you sir and if it isn't to forward we all ask for a hardy second helping of this amazing productions. Whether it be next year or next week, I and many others eagerly await your delve into the shadow once more!
Absolutely awesome. Loved every minute of it. I love listening to OTR and that was a great recreation. Keeping the Blue Coal ads in made it sound really authentic. Would love to hear more of these.

Wow at first i thought "oh god really" but i listened on and holy shit that was amazing. im surprised you got these guys to do the voices of the characters and even the radio announcer and the blue coals and shit.
Fantastic work. I recognized the voice of someone I know. Small world! RUclips is often stale and redundant but you and the cohorts succeeded an something unique. Great job all around.
A quality production. Similar to the Scifichannels productions of Seeing Ear Theater back in the 90s. Glad to see people bring back Radio dramas again. Find "30 Second Telephone Terror: The Box" on NPRs website for another classic.
That Samhain shirt is badass, man. Amazing hidden gem of a band. Also, great performance on your end. I would love more content like this if it happens to come along.
I'm looking forward to accepting my Oscar for this performance.
You'll have to accept it posthumously, a Biblical figure killed the shit out of you.
Even if you don't receive your oscar, there's always the patriarchy's "Shitlord of the Year".
"And the award for Best Choking and Gagging goes to..."
Sargon... you totally nailed the stuffy airs of a museum curate.
You're far too white to win an Oscar!
Who knew where Bob Kane got Batman from.
The Shadow knows....
Well he was a talentless hack and he had his pal Bill finger through some pulps for "inspiration"
Must... Buy... Blue... Coal...
I am happy I managed to convince you!
The guy who provided voice work for Cain did a kick ass job. And your Shadow voice is damn near identical to the radio show from the days of yore.
He certainly did.
I bought so much Blue Coal stock, they made me their spokesman
So that's where your 500 bucks went from your last RAR
Welcome back sir, many have missed your dulcet tones....
The store clerk at the sports goods sounds like the voice for Harley Qinn from the 90s Batman Animation
Awww gee, Mister J! ;)
Thank you that is an amazing compliment, Arleen Sorkin's Harley Quinn is the best one!
New time listener here, and I want to say, everyone involved did a fantastic job! Was listening to this in my car the other night, and I nearly felt like I was transported to the 40's or 50's. Wow, I never knew Vandal Savage was so blatantly stolen.
Me too!
suchomimus Glad I waited to read the comments. DC and Marvel owes The Grant estate Mucho royalties. Hope you do more of these.
*Randy Savage
same thing occured to me it was even caused by a meteor

4:45 Sargon descibing a exhibit of his subscibers? Oh I kid I kid!
This is really awesome, Razor. Hope we get another one of these next year.

Loved the Blue Coal ads, it’s the little details
That's gotta be Cain!
I was waiting for someone to say it.
He spoke English pretty well.
Btw.Want a blue coal?
JEEZUS! this was freaking amazing!
Razor, you made me a fan of the shadow ever since you began to bring him up, although specifically that quote from The coils of Leviathan (enough to want to dress up as him), but this... was a stroke of genius! you did a damn good Lamont AND The Shadow (they BOTH felt right). THAT'S EXACTLY WHO I WAS GOING FOR!
KiteTales & Flex It is very well-deserved, you were fantastic! The whole cast performed brilliantly!
That was sublime. Please, do more!
I hope you don't take what I'm about to say as an insult because I love this but your Shadow is far superior to your Lamont Cranston. But the highlight for me, is Asum Jensen as Cain. His performance was almost chilling and menacing. I love it.
No, I take it as a compliment. Lamont Cranston is supposed to be boring and stuffy. He's an affectation. A mask The Shadow wears. Glad you enjoyed it!
I am in awe sir, that was brilliant. Sargon + Ada too. Just lovely. Without wishing to suck up, is there no end to Razors talents ????
*Asa
Maybe audio drama should make a comeback. With RazörFist at the helm perchance!?
Can confirm. Big Finish does other shows too.
One would think Audible would do what Netflix did and start doing original content with audio dramas, starting with The Shadow. Like imagine how many starving voice actors would line the fuck up to be a part of that.

Oh shit, it's Asa!
Glad you brought him back for another collab.
=)

Bravo to all involved.
Awesome idea for a Halloween episode. You own way of keeping a small part of history alive. Great work!
Damn, you guys even recreated the commercials! Seriously great project. Hope it's not the last (although I can only imagine how much work this was).
Man, from Orson Welles to Razorfist. A step down, but not as big of a step as I expected. I've listened to some of the original shadow shows, and this was way closer to them than I expected. Kudos to you for really trying to capture some of that original radio drama magic.
Even has the commercials/intermissions in it. A perfect recreation with serious respect and love for the content. THIS is real ART!!!
The first Halloween special I've ever cared for actually, top notch job!

I loved this audio play, you did an excellent job with it. I only hope that maybe you could make this a yearly thing? :3
good to hear you collaborating with Asa again.
This is absolutely amazing! I would definitely like to see more!
This was awesome to work on thanks again for letting work on this Razor and I hope my small part entertained you guys and gals
Peace

Space Jew Fuck that, make this a monthly thing! There's enough to keep them going for a long, long time
I was thinking the same thing...holy crap Vandal Savage before Vandal Savage! :D
Fantastic fucking job Razor. This is a 5-star effort and hope to see more of this in the future.
Thank you.

HOLY SHIT Razor you're a great voice actor.
This was an awesome Halloween special, many thanks to all the performers in this and gotta say Razor, you make a good sounding Shadow.
Just amazing! Fantastic job!! This is such an original idea to celebrate Halloween. I hope this becomes an annual thing.
Wow. This is just amazing. You slip into the roll so naturally. All of your actors/actresses meet their mark.
That was absolutely kick ass, razor. The video releasing on my 21st birthday is a pretty sweet bonus, too.
I would totally subscribe to a channel dedicated to recreating these episodes with youtubers and fans. This is awesome.
Wow you were the Shadow ?? I couldn't even tell it was you ! Thank you so much for this, it was spell bounding.
Excellent work Razor, and all involved. I'm not normally into things like this, unless it was preformed perfectly, and I feel this was.

Well that was pretty fantastic. Asum Jessen's Cain was just perfect, probably the best performance (although most of them were amazing. Sargon's amused me quite a bit as well).
Any chance on doing more of these radio dramas Razor? I loved it, great job. I wish audiobooks were more like this.
wow razor your art is fantastic.
I also would've loved to have been involved in this, but alas I was beaten to the punch. Ah well, I'm sure there's a next time. Killer work Mr. Fist!
(also it warms my heart to see you and Asa working together again, as God intended)
The advertisements give this such a great and authentic feel. Very cool.
This is amazing, one of the best original ideas on RUclips. Fantastic work
Considering I had just finished listening to my ancient MP3 digitization of the War of the Worlds broadcast, this was a welcome, yet strangely coincidental surprise. Well done to the cast. This made my night!
dude I thought this was great !! the shadows a legend
Bravo, sir. Bra-fucking-vo!
This is exquisitely done.
KUDOS! well done voice acting and production.
alot better than i expected
I was bored at work, scrolling through your videos. I was mildly surprised. This was very entertaining.
Utterly wonderful. Claws crossed that there's another recreation for next year.
This is not what i expected, nor is it what i necessarily wanted for razorfist's Halloween special. I have never been so placed to have been given the wrong gift in my life haha.
Well done Razor fist and of course everyone who took part in this special.
You all done a spectacular job.
ShaDO118k insert " Spooktacular job" joke.
Get out -_- haha.
leaves ashamed and walks into traffic
Great stuff! Asum Jessen and your performances were amazing!
Actual fucking creative content? AWESOME!
You should do this more often!
I'd pay for these episodes.
What fun! So glad this came together! Nice to see a showcase of illustration work, too.
Razor, thank you so much for this!!!
This was a real treat! Thank you very much for sharing this with us. I hope you consider doing more of these.
I BEG YOU DO MORE OF THOSE!!! THIS IS BEYOND EPIC!!!
No seriously, you really need to do more of these. These are FUCKING AWESOME.
This was fantastic. Thank you Razorfist for putting this together.
Wow that was awesome! I wish I could have been alive when the shadow was airing. Great job Razorfist that was spectacular work.
I love this. Thanks!
Excellent work! Kudos to Razorfist and the team
Thank you Razorfist! I love listening to the shadow at work and was hoping you could tell me of any other radio show
This is fantastic, please make more people need to hear these classics.
Dude! Great job for the acting for all, especially you as the main man The Shadow! :) Would love to see/hear more radio dramas like this.
Magnificent work! Thank you for putting this together Raz. I loved every minute. Off to buy me some blue coal.
Dude. That was fantastic. I definitely think there should be more recreations of 1930's radio serials on RUclips.
You should do more of these razor. These classics need to make a comeback.
That Samhain shirt is badass, man. Amazing hidden gem of a band. Also, great performance on your end. I would love more content like this if it happens to come along.
This is fantastic. Thanks to everyone for the work they put in.
Masterful work my good sir. I would love to hear more like this.
Thank you for this; great memories from the past. Well done. I look forward to future Halloween specials (or hopefully sooner).
