      *Try not to change the **_emotion_** you are experiencing, instead, early on try to realize the truth, **_the emotion exist only as it's experience to you_** , and you'll realize it isn't the emotion that changes, it's your experience of it*

    Yes the perception in your mind has changed and that's a major thing. But it's not just perception, circumstances have changed too. The stakes are now higher. That said, it's still the exact same walking of the plank. It's no harder than crossing it on land, only in your mind. Poignant.

  • @davehill5482
    @davehill5482 6 лет назад +2

    Well, not only does the perception of the plank changes, the consequence changes as well. If you fall, you will get hurt. Just as in gym. In training, if you tap, you just slap hands and roll again. If you tap in a big match you're out.

    • @Dannibalcorpse
      @Dannibalcorpse 6 лет назад +4

      both are equally valid ways to view the same event. The plank up high may have greater consequences, but if you must cross it, it might be more advantageous to see it as the same plank you cross every day. That perspective may make you more relaxed, less stiff, and therefore, less inclined to fall. The difference is that those who are successful embrace mindsets that breed success.

    Brilliant! The only difference is the risk - I assume with the plank very high the risk of injury or death is also high - but I love the mindset. I used to use this taking penalty shots in soccer/Futbol - I would always look away from the crowd & pretend I was at practice. Great stuff, professor...

    The plank parable is a good analogue for training and fighting. If you fall from a plank on the ground, nothing happens. If you fall from a plank between two buildings, you get seriously injured or die. Just like you can make a mistake in training and get away. In a match or fight you face a real chance of getting hurt and embarrassed.

    This is one of the very few times I disagree with Danaher. In a practical setting, yes, the plank hasn't changed it's only our perception about the plank. The application of skills remains the same.
    However I don't believe this is why we feel fear in scenarios like this. It's a clear perception of *consequences* if the plank is on the ground and you fall, you'll be fine. If the plank is in between two buildings and you fall, you will be critically injured or die.
    Same with competition.
    There are real consequences to losing competition. A loss of status, a loss of income, a loss of opportunity, humiliation, potential injury, etc. Yes you risk some of these in the gym, but on the stage, these consequences are magnified.
    It's the realization of these consequences, the fear of loss that changes our performance.
    Experience and true competence, as Danaher pointed out in his courses and interviews are the source of confidence, enabling us to perform well under pressure.
    There are rational reasons for the fear of competition that people feel.
