    Between all the zero day exploits and this latest debacle, I've had it with Microsoft. Starting today, Linux is my new daily driver. It does everything Windows did, at least for me it does. I realize Linux isn't a one stop solution for everyone, but I encourage everyone to check it out. The software and hardware support has come a long way in the past 20 years.

    • @JohnDoe-ip3oq
      @JohnDoe-ip3oq 4 дня назад

      Linux just had an exploit that runs root and executes remote code by spoofing a printer, which is a CORE FUNCTION of how they install printers. The OS will work fine inside of doing anything the steam deck does, and terrible for anything else. Updates can break the OS from dependencies. Which is why flatpak exists. Nobody includes hardware accelerated video codecs, requiring 3rd party install that will cause those dependency problems. Nvidia support is worse than AMD. Gnome is trash, only use kde. Very few distros are actually up to date and simultaneously support secure boot. Tumbleweed is the only good one. Everything requires some level of research to configure, lots of command line hacks. I can tolerate it, but it's not good enough for public use.

      It is a optional preview update so you dont have to install it. you do so knowing that it could have errors since it is a preview not a final update.
      I never install preview updates as they are not finished updates and therefor could break something.
      and MS dont have every hardware combo with every driver combo to test with. SO yeah it could be broken for some combos but it is not their fault you installed a preview of a unfinished update and you got some errors.

      Opensuse performs more like Windows. You will need to understand how to run everything different, and Linux updates the entire OS with a program update or bricks the OS from dependencies. Which is why flatpak exists. You also get no driver control panel or special feature control. Virtual super resolution is not a supported feature. Video codecs are never hardware accelerated unless you manually install and configure it, while praying that doesn't break the OS, prepare for error messages when updating. Games using dx12 raytracing are unoptimized with a 40% hit, if they work at all. Unreal engine 4 has a known video playback bug. Running any windows software outside of steam is annoying. Put it this way, anything the steam deck does works fine, everything else does not. So if steam deck functionality is acceptable, go for it. There are cases where Linux works better, and cases it doesn't.

Windows system files can get damaged or corrupt. a boot loop like that can happen or it can happen when you try and update Windows. Have seen it happen maybe 30 times. Happened over 5 times 1.5 years i was at my last job.
      It can most times be repaired via advanced startup menu via som build in repair commands in windows or via a windows boot usb and use the files from it to repair. But when it happens because a update and startup repair fails and it boot loops my first try is use advanced startup to run a command called dism and some parameters(dism something /revertpendingactions) to make it revert the update back to before it tried to install it that way windows will boot again and you can run the repair tools to fix any errors it the system files and then try ans update again.
