I was watching a movie and was 16 minutes away from installing "Windows 11 Installation Assistant." Thank You BrenTech for the heads up. I do have the 24H2 ISO on a thumb drive already, so there is no real hurry. I am NOT in a hurry to get another blue-screen error. Yes, I have had several involving 21H2 and 22H2 update issues. Repairing "working" computers is getting kinda old.
I am not in a hurry to make such new change to my Microsoft Windows 11 Professional program, but your report confirms that Microsoft made the 24H2 update utility too suddenly. 💙
1.HDR section not working 2.Web2view cause unexpected errors during Sfc scan 3.Windows security icon might not appear in system tray during stratup 4.Needs more improvement I would say 23H2 update is one of the best update. Stay with that as of now ( Recommended)
Reinstall your GPU drivers. I always reinstall Chipset & GPU drivers after a major Windows upgrade. There also seem to be a Day 1 patch for 24H2, which I install after drivers reinstall.
I upgraded about a week after general availability and after successful update, I reinstalled chipset & GPU drivers, specifically AMD Adrenaline 24.9.1. After restart, I checked Windows Update and there was a day 1 patch! Updated that and there wasn't any issues. Upgraded 3 AMD systems with Win11 and 2 Win11 virtual machines. One of the VMs had a disk corruption and upgrade failed. After solving that issue, upgrade completed with no issues. So far so good.
I saw many report of past upgrade where people failed to boot, bsod, and many more, where you'd rather wait few more days, especially when the update is not available for you yet.
I updated to 24H2 through Insider, and again by 'normal' update. This was on the same machine. Both times, the update seemed to be fine, and worked perfectly, but, the next day, I could not get the system to boot into Windows. This happened on both occasions. The system went through POST, the Logo screen, and then a blinking cursor. I have had to re-install Windows 11 23H2 both times, and won't be trying 24H2 again anytime soon.
Thanks, Brent, for the update, I'm hot seeing it on my Windows Update, as you say that is most probably the reason If I do see it come up as a separate update, what would be a good time frame to leave it for 2 to 4 months? Take care.
I'm unable to install 24H2 in VMware Workstation Pro 17.6.0 build-24238078 as it says failed to install. But I was able to install in Virtual Box 7.1.2-164945 successfully. Maybe an update needed for Vmware? Hmm
One more issue. When using Explorer to burn an ISO file it never finishes successfully. Get an error message and spits out the DVD. If I use Nero or any other dvd burning software it works fine. sfc /scannow doesn't work either. It says errors have been repaired but if you run it again the same message comes up.
I could not agree more but the problem is what you all refused to recognize at the core of all of that is that anytime you boot up any PC into windows and you're connecting online you don't have to say so in it. AKa that's not your computer The sooner you wake up and realize this and the sooner you start taking baby steps towards eventually migrating to linux, the better off you're going to be in the end

Well that's a small tiny baby step in the correct mental direction. Legit compliment intended seriously. But the most important question is have you finally reached that quote that's it I've had it!" Moment yet? Because until you reach that moment you're going to stay in the same complacent mindset thinking that you can keep doing the same thing you've always done and expect different results especially using the exact same tool to do it with and that's staying in the windows world. And never realizing that that's not your computer that you're starting up as long as it's connected online. Haley if you keep it offline there are still way too many things that you cannot do in Windows to truly make it your own PC that you can do in the Linux world
I think Microsoft has to get a way on how to update manually without using the windows update. And not installing ISO too. a better way to just update from 23H2 to 24H2

I'll install windows 11 the day Microsoft brings back the option to make the taskbar smaller. Oh and when its stable enough that you won't get any blue screens
Just replace the task bar entirely. This is start menu all over again, they're not going to fix it right. I set my task bar to the right of my screen and Microsoft removed it entirely. This nonsense started with Vista removing major features of XP and we've never returned the custom shortcut toolbar. I replace everything now. Start menu, task manager, file explorer, Firefox, network icon, gadgets, process lasso for CPU scheduling, themes menu, midi support, video player, 7zip, etc. Windows is completely intolerable without replacing almost every core feature, even with Windows 10 or 7. Windows 11 is just one more feature to replace. You could try Linux, and the defaults are more usable, but Linux has core usability problems doing anything outside of steam deck functionality.
@@JohnDoe-ip3oq The fact that you need a 3rd party program that runs 24/7 in the background in order to change a basic UI function like taskbar size... is crazy. On older win11 versions you could've changed that by editing the registry. Now you can't even do that. Win11 is not worth the trouble. I'll wait for win12 or the time when linux will be a better alternative
@@l.d.bogdan391 it's not like we are using single core CPUs anymore, or hard drives. It's not a problem. You may complain about it, but there's a 100% chance you stop being a whiny baby, and deal with reality after a year of either using Linux or unsupported Windows 10 when your new software is BLOCKED from running on 10. Linux is fine for the bare minimum ootb experience, but the whole, "waah I don't want to do x" sets in AFTER you start using it, which means the pain point is delayed instead of front loaded. There is no infinite sitting on unsupported windows, Microsoft makes sure to block new software and drivers. AMD has stated no more Windows 10 drivers next year.
