The 1st PC I ever built had a FX-6300 and a GX 630 GPU (Maybe dating myself 🤣). My current PC is capable of upgrading to Windows 11, us old folks get stuck in our ways and I don't want to. I know I will have to eventually, and probably should do it sooner than later, so I can start learning it and get comfortable with it before Windows 10 support ends.
So after updating my PC to 24h2 and then some other updates from MS I have found that some things do not work as well and it is a little sluggish to respond to some programs. But all in all I am happy that I upgraded. Now it will take me some time to test all of my programs to see which ones 24h2 does not like and others that will no longer work. Hope to see more informative videos that you are so good at doing. Thanks for passing on your knowledge and expertise.
I'm actually using that EXACT case right now. I bought it in 2006 and it's had I think 7 different pc's in it. I had to trim some of the metal out of it where the current video card is now, but other than that it's still my favorite case all these years later.
The 24H2 update runs exceptionally well on my X58 Xeon systems, definitely outperforming the 23H2 on unsupported hardware. I'm experiencing significant FPS improvements in games like Fortnite, Halo Infinite, Doom Eternal, and Forza Horizon 5, even with an RTX 2070 Super and fairly high graphics settings, and I'm also utilizing core isolation.
if you're having trouble downloading the .iso like i was, check your browser's privacy settings. i didn't want to change my settings in firefox since it's my primary browser, so i went into edge and changed the tracking prevention from strict to balanced and that allowed me to download it
I had some of those Apevia cases back in the day. I kinda loved them! Easy to work in and there were some very cute models. Also, the one time I contacted their tech support they guy was very helpful and hilarious. Yes, being engaging is a plus to me.
Instead of having to say several times during the video that You are using strangely version 23H2, You could have explained the whole process once in the beginning. Then the viewers know what You are doing and why and it all makes sense. But great video still, thanks!
Rufus 4.6 Beta has support for Windows 11 24H2. Both Clean Install and Upgrade. Also there are GPT/UEFI Computers that still are unsupported by Win 11, so if you have that of course use GPT/UEFI and NOT MBR. Might be obvious, but just to clarify.
I had to scroll down to find out if someone could answer this exact issue. I have a PC that is UEFI but not supported. X99 chip (not supported) and a TPM chip slot on the MB but no chip created for it. I was scared to go past the Rufus create step because I would be hurting myself by going the MBR route with my large cap hard drives. Can’t thank you enough for confirming.
Great video, very clearly presented, well explained and very helpful, thanks! I just wish I had found this channel before investing in a new build. The simple method worked on my old desktop, which has an unsupported chip and inactivated tpm 1, the results, it seems snappier on Windows 11 than on Windows 10. All that money wasted on a new build! However, I did enjoy building it. I also tried it on my laptop with an unsupported chip, again works a treat. As an experiment I tried it on my very old laptop circa 2012 and again works great. Just as a warning for other people if you select the wrong language when downloading the ISO (International English or US English in my case) you won’t get the option to keep your files etc. For some reason my desktop was on International and one of my laptops on US. Thanks again.
Just finished upgrading an old HP laptop to Win 11. I took the 24H2 iso, ran it through Rufus, and it worked without going through the modification of the 23H2 iso. A couple of steps less with the same result. Only thing I'd add is that there is a disclaimer from Microsoft that pops up, reminding you that the hardware is unsupported. and Microsoft declaring absolutely under no circumstances do they have any liability. Once you click that you accept this, the rest is easy.
Still using my 2011 HP Probook 4430s, slapped in Win11 a few months ago and re-installed it yesterday to make sure everything was still up-to-date with Rufus. I'll use Windows 11, but I will raise Microsoft the Middle Finger to them trying to force people to buy new computers to meet their artificial hardware "requirements."
Thanks for the video. Interestingly, I had to disable AdGuard to download the ISO. Microsoft's site kept telling me I was banned. "We are unable to complete your request at this time. Some users, entities and locations are banned from using this service. For this reason, leveraging anonymous or location hiding technologies when connecting to this service is not generally allowed." When I turned off the ad-blocker, I was able to download the ISO.
I just used the latest version of Rufus for Windows 11 like I did for Windows 10 without any of these mods and it worked just fine. I installed it on my 2007 HP laptop. But thanks for the video
It will work out of the box with Rufus on a fresh install. However, it won't work on an upgrade. You have to use my method to do an upgrade. However I hear that Rufus already has a beta version that works out of the box. I haven't looked into it yet but I plan to and when I do I'll do a video on it.
Slightly off topic, win 10 installed active copilot AI? I rebooted in safemode, opened reĝedit, and deleted everything containing the name copilot. A dozen files would not delete. What AI services can I turn off?
Just upgraded two MacBook Pro's (with Boot Camp) from 23H2 to 24H2 using the 'server' method. MBP Models mid 2015 and 2019. Success, and Windows Update works ok. 👍
Thanks so much! It worked perfectly on a Dell OptiPlex 7010 MT with a 3rd gen i7. The only thing I did different is use the GPT Partition scheme in Rufus 4.6 BETA because the system I was updating was using UEFI BIOS.
You make it sound soooooo easy. But IMHO, you're a frickin genious!! HOW do you know all this stuff FFS?? I'm currently on W10...and will prob stay on it, until the very last minute, but then I'll do a system image (just in case) and try this out. Thank you for this superb guide.....Top Man!! 👍
@17:57 - I used this step to upgrade an Azure VM from Windows 11 21H2 Ent MU to Windows 11 24H2 Ent MU using the original 24H2 ISO file from Microsoft, most of the VM I had access to was v3 & v4 and none of them could pass the vCPU test @5:25 to pass the TPM 2.0 test, I had to enable confidential compute on the VM.
you should have mentionen that 24H2 has stricter CPU requirements.. older CPUs without POPCNT and SSE4.2 will not work anymore and that cannot be circumvented.

More important video would be how to prevent 24H2 ftom installing on any computer. No to Recall! Fortunately, there is video out there explaining how to prevent 24H2 from installing. Unfortunately, most people won't find out how till after their Windows 11 has already updated to it and then they won't be able to remove Recall.
If the easy "Server" install successfully upgrades from Win10 22H2 to Win11 24H2, if MS later takes this "unsupported hardware" upgrade process down, will your prior successful Win11 24H2 upgrade installation go down with it? Or will it remain a successful Win11 24H2 Upgrade? At least until another newer "build" comes down the pipe?
In my opinion, I don't think Microsoft can make the USB stick method not work. Because you're actually using an old installer from 23H2 in order to install 24H2. So no matter what they do to patch workarounds in 24H2 it shouldn't affect the 23H2 installer. So yes, I think it will continue to work.
Great instruction video, even for an old guy like me. I understand that Win 10 will no longer get updates soon, but for the avg user like me, I don't see any real reason to update Win 10. While you did an excellent job explaining this, it would seem that somewhere down the road and 2 updates later, I will get a blue screen.
I tried using your second method to install the 11 24H2 on my laptop running Windows 10. Needless to say it didn't work and my laptop doesn't boot. I think i missed the part where i needed to use the version with the changed wim file. Do i need to use the fix from your video "Secure Boot Messed up my Computer"? To get my laptop to boot? Update!! issue fixed: I updated the BIOS, SATA OPERATION to AHCI. The Windows 11 installation finished its thing. Nice!!
The FX-6300 isn't a triple-core CPU, it's a hexacore CPU (6 core), it's just that each pair of cores shares resources between them. I know Windows now regards it as 3c/6t, but I remember when Windows recognized it as an actual 6-core.
I see these comments on pretty much literally every windows 11 problem video. You have a point that we shouldn't have to jump through hoops like this and bypass BS requirements that obviously are nowhere near as mandatory as they'd like to claim. And I can honestly say that Linux will work for a good chunk of users, especially if they don't want to poke around in the OS's internals and just need something to run their browser, office software, or most games with not an unbearable amount of hassle in most cases. However I have tried several Linux distros and well, so far it's just not for me. If I /had/ to use it, I could for basic stuff, but I get very frustrated going from high-level Windows expert to low-level Linux noob. I keep poking around and breaking things that I have no idea how to fix other than to reinstall or if I actually remember to do a timeshift backup. While I have enough experience on windows and the system is different enough that either the problem wouldn't occur in the first place or I already have the skill set to troubleshoot and fix things with minimal fuss, while on linux I have to scour the internet and try half a dozen different solutions before either finding something that works, break things further, and/or give up and crawl back to windows for a while until I can muster up the drive to try Linux out again. If I just poke around randomly trying to find the option to fix things I'm liable to make it worse, while doing so on windows I can generally figure it out. I know this is just a skill issue and /eventually/ I'd learn how to properly troubleshoot and fix issues, It's just very frustrated and discouraging in the meantime.
When downloading Windows 11 check the default language installed. My laptop was set up for English US originally but I added English GB . The options listed for the download are English US and English International. Selecting the wrong one will remove (grey out) the option to retain apps and files.
The big discussion right now is that Microsoft states that Recall is coming to Copilot plus pc's only. but when you run this find feature command in command prompt or terminal as an admin on pc's that are running 24H2 but are not copilot plus pc.s it shows recall is installed and enabeled. This is the only place in the operating system you can find Recall on the non copilot pc's. I always thought that Rufus did something in memory, at boot, to some how fool the windows installer to bypass the requirements for windows 11. It didn't actually change anything in the ISO. I suppose Rufus could do what you just did running /product server to get around the current restrictions.
@@rebokfleetfoot From what I gather Rufus does both. It places something in memory before the setup starts, and changes the way setup is executed by adding command line switches to setup.exe. Similar to what he did in this video.
If your not dependent on specialty software it should be painless I recommend Brave browser. Get used to Linux by running from the live media or virtualbox before jumping.
I might have to try this, as I have a decently powerful old computer(It's like the top 2 most powerful computers in the house), it runs all my games at a playable FPS, and it's got the most drive space. I really don't want to give it up and have it collecting dust in a closet or something. But my options right now are either: 1. Stay on an outdated version of windows past EOL and hope my antivirus and firewalls and my decent sense of when something is sketchy and not to download or open it, protect me. Until eventually my software stops releasing updates for it. Though hopefully with how many computers won't have official support for 11 we can hope that software manufacturers won't drop support for 10 for many years, especially since I heard that 10 and 11 are basically the same OS under the surface. 2. Use these workarounds to try to force windows 11 on there and hope it'll continue to at least allow security patches on my system all the way until like windows 12. I don't much care about feature updates as long as it's not something the programs and games I use have a dependency for. 3. Switch to Linux, which i've already dipped my toe into and well, it hasn't gone very smoothly as I get very frustrated when there's a problem and I have no idea how to fix it while I could figure it out in seconds/minutes at most on windows. I'm used to being a high-level windows users, not a Linux noob. I'm used to being the tech support not needing tech support. I will completely acknowledge that anybody who just needs basic functionality should probably not have many issues as long as the hardware is compatible and they're not into too many niche uses. You need a browser, office software, even most games(that don't use kernal anti-cheat), Linux can completely work for you with not a horrible amount of googling. 4. The final option of just biting the bullet and switching to a windows 11 compatible computer, which I actually did buy a decently powerful(by my possible low standards) mini pc with 11 on it. But it has half the storage, only a few USB ports, and no PCIe. I'm also not sure if it'll randomly die one day as I've heard occasionally happens.
Howdy. My experience. 24H2 will not install if the computer is so old it has BIOS Legacy startup. The install will roll back at reboot. 23H2 will install though. If the startup is UEFI the product server method works. Regards.
You only have to use MBR if the system you're installing it on doesn't support secure boot. If it does then you can make a UEFI thumb drive and it will still work fine. However, you won't be able to install it on systems that don't support secure boot.
Thank you for these very informative videos, much appreciated !! I purchased a refurbished computer from a certified MS supplier with 23H2 pre-installed. As it turns out the CPU is not compatible (i7-7700), I guess I didn't do my homework. Anyway, will 24H2 install automatically from Windows Update or will I need to use these methods ?
i'm all for "sticking it to the man" and bypassing limits, but this is flat out a security risk unless one actually does meet the requirements. zero day exploits, etc., all come to mind without the use of the TPM.
Thanks for sharing, I was not familiar with the "server" trick, its very handy. I use ESET Internet Security and there is no problem with installing the Explorer Patcher, even upgrading to 24H2 on unsupported HW. It looks like the server installer does not check for existence of the the Explorer Patcher. Only problem with the Explorer Patcher I had on supported HW, since I did not use any tricks. The Win 11 installer detected the Explorer Patcher and would not continue, until I uninstalled it. Obviously it reported it as a malicious SW. I reinstalled it after the upgrade.
You should always uninstall explorer patcher before doing a major build update. Especially between 23H2 and 24H2 because EP uses a completely different taskbar replacement in 24H2.

The easy way worked for me on a Bootcamp setup with a 2018 Macbppk Pro.
if you're having trouble downloading the .iso like i was, check your browser's privacy settings. i didn't want to change my settings in firefox since it's my primary browser, so i went into edge and changed the tracking prevention from strict to balanced and that allowed me to download it
thank you Rich. it worked perfectly from Windows 11 23H2 to 24H2
I followed your video, created the usb and it worked like a dream. Bravo and well done. Keep up the good work and Many Thanks
This was really insightful, thank you very much for this, I would have installed windows 11 very wrongly
You're super genius, paps. This is the rarest solution ever, but it works! Thank you so much.
Oddly I updated my unsupported computer yesterday
And thanks for the Code, my Virtual W11 Pro is now licensed for training videos.
Slightly off topic, win 10 installed active copilot AI? I rebooted in safemode, opened reĝedit, and deleted everything containing the name copilot. A dozen files would not delete. What AI services can I turn off?
How well you said and showed that even I, a fool, can install win 11, thanks for the instructions.
Just upgraded two MacBook Pro's (with Boot Camp) from 23H2 to 24H2 using the 'server' method. MBP Models mid 2015 and 2019. Success, and Windows Update works ok. 👍
10-17-24 - WORKED on my unsupported PC with WIN 11 23H2 < using the last easy option < thanks ! :)
63% through upgrading an HP AMD A8 laptop using server installer method, thank you. 10/25/2024.
Thanks so much! It worked perfectly on a Dell OptiPlex 7010 MT with a 3rd gen i7. The only thing I did different is use the GPT Partition scheme in Rufus 4.6 BETA because the system I was updating was using UEFI BIOS.
@18:26 - at this point you can tell the installer to skip the update check ☑

the script I used to install Windows 11 on my unsupported hardware still worked for 24H2.
Extremely knowledgeable video buddy❤❤❤😊😊😊.
@17:57 - I used this step to upgrade an Azure VM from Windows 11 21H2 Ent MU to Windows 11 24H2 Ent MU using the original 24H2 ISO file from Microsoft,
most of the VM I had access to was v3 & v4 and none of them could pass the vCPU test @5:25
to pass the TPM 2.0 test, I had to enable confidential compute on the VM.
Cmd line worked like a charm. Thanks.
you should have mentionen that 24H2 has stricter CPU requirements.. older CPUs without POPCNT and SSE4.2 will not work anymore and that cannot be circumvented.
Well it may not be circumvented but there is a resolution. Stop playing game that always cheats you leave windows and switch to Linux, but do it wisely using baby steps
He got his adverts in and I lost 3 hrs
Still an artificial limitation.

Imac Mid 2010 (I3, 16GB, SSE 4.2, Radeon HD 4670): Windows 24H2 + Rufis: Clean offline install works perfect. What a great video - many thanks :-)
I have Kubuntu 24.10 installed on my FX6300 2nd system - works amazing. No one should have to jump through hoops just to install an OS.
This is supper cool.
Thanks CyberCPU Tech.
Great thumbnail 😊
Thank you so much for your tech tips. This worked for me and I and especially like it because you are so enthusiastic in clear and lucid explanations.
Check if RECALL is enabled:
Dism /Online /Get-Featureinfo /Featurename:Recall, Disable RECALL:
Dism /Online /Disable-Feature /Featurename:Recall
several buddies of mine in the IT have discovered Recall is installed and enabled on non Copilot PCs running Windows 11 24H2
@@rebokfleetfoot Or at least some part of it is for some reason. I think microsoft has got some explaining to do.

Very helpful, thanks!
I just received an old Asus laptop which meets all other Win11 requirements except the CPU (which is 7th gen) and I want to do a clean install of Win11 24H2. In that case, is this still the best procedure to follow or is there a is simpler method for just unsupported CPU? By the way, excellent video and I've now subscribed.
I always thought that Rufus did something in memory, at boot, to some how fool the windows installer to bypass the requirements for windows 11. It didn't actually change anything in the ISO. I suppose Rufus could do what you just did running /product server to get around the current restrictions.
ya it's not a mod to the ISO, it's just a different installer program
it does do things in memory
@@rebokfleetfoot From what I gather Rufus does both. It places something in memory before the setup starts, and changes the way setup is executed by adding command line switches to setup.exe. Similar to what he did in this video.
Thanks for the video, but I'm not installing Windows 11 24H2 on anything I own. Microsoft can bite me.
NEVER used linux before, looking into Linux Mint as M$ keeps on fucking things up.
@@cantstandya3761 My sister runs a small office off it on a very old Acer laptop. Just works.
If your not dependent on specialty software it should be painless I recommend Brave browser. Get used to Linux by running from the live media or virtualbox before jumping.

Another very informative video!
yes it dose work with upgrade with rufus my friend did it without issue
I might have to try this, as I have a decently powerful old computer(It's like the top 2 most powerful computers in the house), it runs all my games at a playable FPS, and it's got the most drive space. I really don't want to give it up and have it collecting dust in a closet or something. But my options right now are either:
Downloading the iso rn. I'll use the server method, will tell u guyz if it works or not. (19 oct 2024)
It worked!FLAWLESSLY!!!!
Bro you are really genius❤❤❤😊😊😊.
Howdy.
My experience.
24H2 will not install if the computer is so old it has BIOS Legacy startup. The install will roll back at reboot. 23H2 will install though.
If the startup is UEFI the product server method works.
Regards.
The MBR is a deal breaker for me. Good guide.
You only have to use MBR if the system you're installing it on doesn't support secure boot. If it does then you can make a UEFI thumb drive and it will still work fine. However, you won't be able to install it on systems that don't support secure boot.
I have successfully upgraded my 2 old PC to Win11 by using the server upgrade method. My 2 old PC: Intel i5-4590, & Intel x5650.
I can't even get 24H2 to download to my completely supported PC

Thank you for these very informative videos, much appreciated !! I purchased a refurbished computer from a certified MS supplier with 23H2 pre-installed. As it turns out the CPU is not compatible (i7-7700), I guess I didn't do my homework. Anyway, will 24H2 install automatically from Windows Update or will I need to use these methods ?
i'm all for "sticking it to the man" and bypassing limits, but this is flat out a security risk unless one actually does meet the requirements. zero day exploits, etc., all come to mind without the use of the TPM.
On any computer? Will it still come with a free side of recall or copilot?
Interesting video, but I think I'll just stay with Windows 10 LTSC for as long as possible.

Hey great video

Thanks, finally some good help 🥳🥳🥳🥳
@@CyberCPU Hi Rich, thanks for your comment. I did not uninstall the EP, because I already had the new version (with the 24H2 taskbar) there. So I did not bother.
I won't even install 11 on supported hardware. Why would I bother infecting my old hardware with it?
Well put... I've been loving Linux Mint cinnamon since July 28th 2020 as far as my 100% only daily driver OS and have been using it off and on since late 2010. Could not be happier. It doesn't tell me any hardware is unsupported. It just lets me install it into the computer and my Hardware decides whether or not I can run it or run it well enough for my needs or wants or tastes
Update: Totally failed to install on W10 Pro using the Server mode. Got to the first restart then undid changes and reverted back. Message on screen after W10 login says "We couldn't install Windows Server. We've set your PC back to the way it was before you started installing Windows Server. 0xC1900101 - 0x20017: The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during Boot operation".
So not sure where that leaves me now as, IIRC the first method would appear to only be for an upgrade from 23H2 with W11 already installed and not for a W10 Upgrade that maintains files and settings.
Failed another 3 times - always with the same error.
