So I'm super white/pale and I tried the untinted version and even on me it had a noticeable white cast. I really don't know how it some people got it to work for them. Very confused.

Hey Benonon! I'm curious, are you a daily sunscreen wearer? Your skin looks marvelous! Do you think sunscreen is contributing? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Yes and yes! I wear it everyday but I haven't been as good about reapplying as often as I probably should now that I'm mostly in doors. When I nannied and spent most of my time outside, I was much better at sticking to the 2 hour rule. I've always struggled with acne scars and dark spots. It's definitely helped protect my skin while my old scars fade and new scars don't seem to look as prominent or last as long.

@@benenon Great to know! Dr. Dray has a great couple of videos on reapplying if staying indoors. She says you don't need to do it every 2 hours. So, you are probably doing great! I think she says if we're indoors we should try to reapply once at some point, but that's basically ir.
Anyway, I wear it every day too and glad to find a kindred spirit out there on this front. :)

  • @GrandHoopla

I have combination skin, oily T zone, and both of these gave me a white cast that never completely disappeared and so I didn't like it. The untinted one had a way worse cast. Like you, the reapplication was worse for both. If I wore moisturizer then the cast was way worse. I had to return both. Right now I'm using the Tizo ultra zinc and Cotz Flawless Complexion which are mineral ones but leave they leave me a bit more greasy than I'd like, so I'm also trying the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen which is chemical (I'm pretty sensitive so I'm not sure yet if the Supergoop will work but I love the feel of it, matte finish and absolutely no cast.)

I love supergood unseen for the summer. I don’t get reactions from it but hopefully it’s works out for you. I keep meaning to look up Tizo. Do you think it would work better in the winter?

Im dark skinned and I just found a mineral sunscreen which doesn’t leave a white cast !! It’s from Heliocare Mineral Tolerance Fluid !! It’s beautiful. It has no alcohol and no fragrance !!

I'm sensitive to most chemical sunscreen but the supergoop unseen doesn't cause any sensitivity. Hopefully when I try the cheaper kroger dupe in the future, it will work too.

Did you do something during the two hours the necessitated reapplication? I don’t understand the reapplication of physical sunscreen every two hours unless you’ve done something to wipe or sweat it off. Physical sunscreen screens do not degrade so if you were just hanging out at home and reapplied after two hours, yeah you’re going to see a cast. You probably had four fingers worth on. I’ve the article about two-hour rule! Everyone mis-cites it. The article doesn’t give any blanket recommendations about sunscreen reapplication. Plus you can’t directly compare chemical to physical. They doesn’t have the same properties. Plus given the differences in degradation rates among the many types of chemical, how could there be a blanket reapplication rule for all of them? … I’m venting. Forgive me. If I’m wrong about this, if I’ve miss something, someone please explain why and how! Otherwise. Thanks for this review.

I just reapply because I have oily skin and blot frequently (aka removing products). I think the amount of times you reapply is up to you but I aim for 2/3ish hours for my skin 😊

@@benenon so I asked Doctorly the same question. They highlighted it so maybe they’ll give a response. Thanks for providing your rationale. Someone also sent me to Lab Muffin Beauty, a cosmetic chemist, who provided some interesting insights. She says reapplication isn’t really necessary indoors unless you’re sitting next to a sunny window and that reapplication IS necessary when there IS UV because even if you don’t wipe the sunscreen off, it will naturally shift on the face throughout the day leaving spots not fully protected. My takeaway from her video is that reapplication isn’t necessary every two hours unless you’re actually going outside. UV from screen time and lights are insignificant and walls are great protection.

You guys are using way too much sunscreen. High end products are quality not quantity. This is why people complain about white cast. Don’t wear so much. You shouldn’t have to rub it in. The two finger rule is for cheaper bulky products. You’re supposed to get a thin layer on.

That's not true. All sunscreens are tested using the exact same product density to achieve the spf on the label. (It's an FDA regulation.) That's why you use the same amount, no matter what the price point is.
