- Watering Grass At Night
Lawn care "rules" tell us not to water at night. I think that if your situation will not allow for perfect timing on watering AND you have your turf on a strong fungicide plan then go for it. It's worked for me for about 4 years now.

Amen Brother, may God continue to water in abundance. Thank you and Blessings.
Hey Pete I'm on day number 10 with no cutting too..... its too hot. I used my pull behind rake to comb the grass for add air flow. In some places I'm at 7 inches.
I use blowers to fluff lethargic turf and it responds well, just don't hammer it too hard
@@daflea66 ....backpack blower?
Rev D no, your girl.... j/k
Manorscape Gardening, I do the same thing with my backpack leaf blower-my wife thinks I’m crazy but my turf looks awesome every summer.
yes, we use echo 8010s now and it takes very little time. very much worth it
Drinking game idea for this video: Wait for the word ‘premium’
jmagnum15 oh man well worth the wait hahaha
When it’s this hot and dry in TN, I’m so glad I have Bermuda
Ok I keep wondering as a newcomer, I get the thought but does everyone cover their grass if it’s supposed to rain at night? I mean that’s water right?
I see thats a Rainbird rotor because of the green adjustment tool, are you using a 6504 Falcon? We began to have issues with the Falcon series rotors with coverage. We have removed about 200 of them from our baseball fields and switched them over to Hunter i40 SS. You should give the I40 a try and do your irrigation uniformity test again.
Pete I really could use your advice,we don’t have a well ,and the water bill can get pretty expensive. What could you recommend on watering I’m located in Birmingham Alabama. Thanks God bless
Wow, I'm so addicted to your videos that I can't have much sleep given to your healthy lawn remedies. Somehow my mind discerned that you were a believer in God. And whoa, I came to this video with you saying that Jesus was the living water of the land and the souls. Amen, brother. Keep the videos and divine wisdom for the lawns and the Lord.
Does the cup size matter in determining the amount of water?
No... A cup or a 5 gallon bucket will have the same height of water in it. Unless it has a huge top and a small bottom or something...
Rivers of living water flowing out your belly! Holy ghost fire burn! Stay blissed
I just renovated my lawn. Power raked to bare dirt then split seeded as you suggested in your video. Dropped your seed with xstart 8-24-4. Is it okay for me to water at night to keep soil moist? I’m in Chesapeake Va
Thank you for your time and products
Only God waters my property at night. I stick to morning.
It's funny when I go to some type of garden center and the plants look like they are dying of thirst. I'll ask somebody why they don't water them and they say it's not good to water him in the heat. But when God water them at 3 the afternoon they bounce right back up.
Got both of your water advise. Blessings from Costa Rica
Great Video. You will never go thirsty again, unless you are the grass lol
I put in my own well and my average water bill dropped $150 a month. I’m only down 30’ , south Florida, and I have all the water I need. The garden and lawn are now on well. It paid for itself in about 3 months.
I have a family house 4 bedroom and 3 full baths 1/2 are wash clothes and my water never over 40.00 dollars I can.t ever remember even with the pool we had ever being over 50. Dollars
@@angelaprater2679 my bill is still between 60-100. That’s just for basic house hold needs of 2. My wife isn’t very good at conserving.
What is a strong "strong fungicide plan"? My lawn is infested with fungus. Can I really use Sodium Bicarbonate (1/2 cup per gallon of water) to kill the fungus?
T3 Servo I’ve never heard of that friend. What I mean is use high quality commercial grade fungicides in a systematic approach to control lawn disease
Come on now, we know it never rains at night!!! LOL I have been saying that for years. People still stop and tell me I am going to ruin my lawn.
Pete, laugh at me.. but put melatonin on your lawn! Look it up bro!
Mr. Craig why 😂
@@MikeUochoa19 www.news-medical.net/health/Melatonin-in-Plants.aspx
It's worth an experiment, dont take my word for it try it! You'll need to figure out the dosage and get pure melatonin, not the pills at the drug store that have filler in them.
hey! I will try it LOL

Hey there Pete. I think when my irrigation waters too much it causes the nutsedge but I’m not positive. Don’t have it yet but it was in full force last August. So much I killed the whole yard and used your seed to overseed. It’s super thick now. Hoping that will keep out the damn nutsedge plus I got a water measuring container. Measure up to 2 inches. Fingers crossed. Should I get a funguside now that I have your seed in the back to be proactive??
I would use a fungicide
GCI Turf Services will do. Thanks Pete
Check it out! Some say don't water at night right......... However it rains DAY and NIGHT! So if night time watering was THAT bad all grass would just be ruined! So lawn care rules are actually kind of silly..........:) It RAINS Day and Night .........................:)
Amen!
You are awesome. Appreciate your videos. Now how about an update on the TTTF in south Texas. 😁
I will email him for an update
@@GCITurf thanks! There's someone around the corner from me in North Texas who has KBG and it's checking out now.
@@reallybadaim118 Mine is still hanging in there
Do you have a brand of garden hose your prefer?
Jeff Borkowski I like zero g with the smaller big sprinkler and flexzilla with the jumbo sled big sprinkler
Jesus never said or did anything as he does not exist in any way outside your closed mind. Humans are evolved, this is not even open for debate. Now I can't take a thing you say seriously ...
It rains in the evening so why not water during the same time?
Looking forward to more garden videos. I'm a first time gardener and am also using HyrBrix, but my plants are nothing like yours.
I tried HyrBrix again this year. You should see it now lol. Wow... I'm amazed.
Man we are hot 95 to 100 already here in deep south Texas and no rain grass is holding up thank god..
Bob, were in South Texas you at?
Mission area..
Amen, amen Redds
Man I appreciate this video! I’m a NC native and your accent reminds me of home! I have the greenest lawn in my cul de sac in VA. Blessings to you and your family.
I have a hopefully quick question that needs a little bit of set up. Last September, my wife and I had sod laid here in eastern SD close to the MN boarder. This is the sods first spring and the landscaping company set our irrigation system to run for 40 minutes each zone 3 times every day (4 zones total, 2 in the front yard sections and 2 in the single back yard section). I have decreased the time to 30 minutes a zone twice a day. I’m assuming it’s being watered way too much? I’m cutting the grass at 3 inches about every 3-4 days.

Dry and hot here in Alabama. Thank you for the videos and the good info. We call it supper too brother !!!
Loving how you shared about Jesus.
Does anybody know the origin between Dinner and Supper? Supper is typically a lighter earlier meal, where Dinner would be a little later and heavier.. Not a rule in Southern family's, more just a name for both.
If U aren't keeping the Law like Messiah did, U are still thirsty. He was speaking about the Thorah. The Thorah is life euphemism for living water.
I mean this in no disrespect but yes it has been in the 90’s in central NC but it hasn’t been very humid at night like it is during a normal summer. The lawn been given time to get a little relief at night because it’s way cooler. Also I think if you have a well and not city water where as you can pump an unlimited amount of water...you sir have a premium situation and I think it’s awesome. Not hating but the normal homeowner is not going to have this situation, let’s be real Pete.
Those water measures are best-evidence of why you run your irrigation head to head, not apex of throw to throw, and run them half-as-often as you would otherwise think. That way each head gets its close-throw *and* the other head's long throw, and vice versa.
Brother the Charlie Daniels Band had it right. The devil went down to Georgia, and he brought some of his heat and lack of water here. Triple digits for the next 3 days, heat index today was easily 107°F, 95°+ and no rain in the forecast until next Sunday. Good thing the city says I can water my yard tomorrow, it's looking crispy. That was a huge cucumber, and those plants look awesome.
so thankful i have a well right now
Sun Drop in the fridge. I somehow knew I'd see one in there when I started watching this channel
We water at night only here in Arizona. Night and right before dawn. For multiple reasons. The top one being the evaporation rate and how much water costs. Even using reclaimed water my complex spent 25 grand keeping 2 acres grass green last year. And in the winter time they do it at dawn because it’s the coldest part of the night and it keeps the pipes from bursting. It’s insane. You go from 45 at night all the way to 100+ degrees in the summer.
👍
Steve Avant he already defeated the devil on the cross. In the meantime the Lord left us in charge. We don't all handle the authority given us well. Thru ignorance, lack of faith, laziness, whatever, it's easier to blame God than ourselves.
Hey Pete with gci turf. You ever tried that hydrotein on spot like that before?
many times...i prefer the Natural Adjuvant for water holding capabilities
Food for thought... roots do not grow through dry soil searching for water. They grow in response to water. Therefore, if only the top inch or two of soil is wet after watering, that's where the majority of roots will be. In other words, deep thorough waterings encourage deeper root systems. Poor root systems = poor plants.
Jesus is that living water 🙏🏾
isn't it bad to water @ night?? because of fungus ..I am so confused now Ha Ha
please go back and watch the video again...I explain all of that :)
Do you use Hydrotain at all? I just tried it...
What’s your AI’s for your fungicide preventive program?
I'm curious about this product. What part of the country are you in? Have you noticed a decrease in watering?
Lisa S, I live in Nj and no I haven’t seen anything from it yet. I sprayed 1 32oz bottle over 5,900sf several days ago and watered it. I am still getting hot spots and we’re still in May. 🙄
What sprinkler head is that?
Amen🙏
I've got a question. I live in deep South Texas temperatures get into the 100-104°. They tell me not to water at night. I don't have time to water in the morning.
Is it ok to water my grass in the evening?
Thanks I'd appreciate your feedback.
I have Saint Augustine Grass
I really like your patio area. I know its a grass channel, but I am currently looking to do my whole yard so I'm curious as to who you went with to do your patio work, and if you dont mind sharing a quick layout of it?
GCI Turf Services first I'd like to say I love your vids!
20 years as a certified lawn and tree tech in Michigan generally you should never water at night and if you do make sure you keep using a fungicide which btw is not cheap.
stressed out yellowing lawns is the only time when watering in the hottest part of the day is necessary otherwise I always recommend between either 7-9 in the am or 7-9 in the pm.
Hey Pete
We live in Locust NC, and man it is getting dry as a bone ain't it.. some of my customers don't have in ground irrigation so I'm really hoping we get a wet spell soon.
I've been doing night time watering for years during these hot spells, and my dumb butt didnt learn about preventative fungicide until last yr.. needless to say, it's imperative to keeping a healthy lawn
This is an outstanding video. Thanks for the knowledge pete!!
Watching older videos and I see Blue Dreams Field. It’s awesome!!!
I stopped watering at 5pm as I was thinking that is where the fungus is coming from?
I’m about 40 miles west from you. Tired of the heat!! My TTTF was last mowed about 10 days ago. My back yard, which has a slope is definitely showing signs of heat stress. The last time I mowed, it was sat at 4 3/4 inches. I may have to wait s couple more weeks until mowing, with no rain in sight!! I only have city water, so watering gets expensive fast!! But I have watered a lot at night, too. Thanks for the information Pete!!
Looking great, Pete! I've been praying to the Lord that He sends all this rain we've been getting here in central Oklahoma to y'all on the east coast cause we're flooded in a lot of areas. Hopefully y'all get some rain soon.
Pete, do you use Root Feeders for your Tree's? I have and seems to help when in a drought situation and I use a Soaker hose, buried( about 3-4" in and around my bushes with 2-3" of Mulch on top..
How deep is your well
I’m in the Central Valley in California where the temps will stay over 100* for 30-45 days straight every summer. We are also on watering restrictions all year long too. To be able to water my yard enough, I water multiple times per day, 3 days per week. During the summer, city laws will only allow me to water 3 days a week.
I water at 3:30 am and 5:30 am and at 9:30 pm. By doing it twice in the morning, I am allowing the ground to soak up the water before hitting it again a couple hours later. I just adjust the watering time per station by how hot it is and wether my yard can soak it up. I then water at night to cool the yard down and prepare it for the heat it will see the next day. My yard stayed beautiful and green all summer long even with the extreme heat.
Hey Matt I'm in Fresno, I only have about 450 square feet in the back but I want to get tall fescue. if i follow your watering schedule do you think I can have green grass all year?? if not what grass do you think I should get for our area?.
Hiya Pete! We don't have the premium situation and we're on a well. Given the temps this week here in Durham, with no rain in sight, I was wondering if anti Transpirant spray would be something you would use?
When u say strong preventive fungicide program ..is that the same as the GCI academy program calls for
Yes
GCI Turf Services hoping to see a Memorial Day NA sale
where i am we have been getting rain, a lot and the summer heat this year has not kicked into gear yet either, still haven't turned on irrigation. still in low to mid 70s and few days now and then in 80s
Okay got-ya Redds
I need one of those sprinklers
gciturfacademy.com/product/big-sprinkler-heavy-duty-sled-sprinkler/
What variety of grass is that? I’m in SW Georgia and need to get a lawn established. I had centipede in Middle Georgia and thinking either that or Zoysia.
When are you gonna put the seed down in those dead spots? Aren't you worried the new grass won't make it thru the summer?
Love that well water...our water is so expensive but have to keep our clay soil watered or it shrinks!
We have Blue Grass/ Fescue Blend lawn and just had a fungicide applied...does one application typically handle the whole summer or should we plan on doing another in a month or so?
Connor is first
What type of sprinkler unit did you use in the stressed area? And what type of fungus control do you recommend for acidic soil with low drainage?
Still not in summer and you can water most of nature anytime of the day/night there are exceptions.
Haven’t used my irrigation system yet this year. We received about 10 inches of rain so far in May but that will change soon, probably go from wet to bone dry !
Mine always has this stench when I water at night. It might be algea
First!
I use to water my bermuda in the early mornings due to the awesome pressure. I have noticed that in central arkansas a lot of the commercial propertys water in the afternoon.
Hey can you do a fungus video
I will
No
So what fungicides should I put down to prevent lawn rust that I get every August on my Kentucky blue grass here in Wisconsin
try a different fungicide
Just something I noticed because of the field I work in... but I hope you have cameras/security system on your building out there. With it being so far from the houses and your tree line blocking the view, thieves will feel pretty comfortable trying to get in there.
yep....I sure do and thanks for that
Why at night, I though night watering is wrong Redds
You might have to have the sprinkler heads facing each other to even out water amount.
Can’t be said enough, you’re the man Pete!! Thank you for these videos, they change people in unimaginable ways
I am in GA and I definitely needed this video. I have been watering the even for the past 2 weeks. I have put down fungicide but I was still worried. Thank you for the information!!
Great vid Pete!! Same way i do it, i always worried i was messing up, but i t get my fungicide through your academy store, now i know its ok Thanks Pete!!!
was that a corny pun at 7:06 your neck of the woods and he walked in between trees
Pete just wondering if we should be concerned about negating the beneficial bacteria - microbial life, when using fungicides?
I am not
Amen brother!!!
Humidity is 35% today in Southern Pines. That is not humid.
Dry and hot in the SE. Midwest storm pattern probly. We say "supper" too.
Is that the GCI grass that you are selling?
Pete, feel like I need to replace my old rotors. 1 acre yard, what rotors do you recommend?
b butler I have the Hunter I20 and love them
TN is in need of RAIN!!!! Same temps as you guys.
Have you done a video on your well?? Very interested in that.
How much does it cost to water that much?
Hey pete when you syringe is that every day ?
So happy I have Bermuda here in Texas, it thrives above 80, looks awesome and doesn't take much water. My water bill would be $1,000 easy if I had to water like that. On that note though you do have a beautiful lawn.
