I love liver and onions, and you make yours just like I make mine , I was very lucky that my husband also liked them.Bless his heart ,he is gone and I miss him so much. God bless you and yours.
I cook it with flour in butter and water. I precook the onions and then add them to the liver in the pan with the gravy. You have to watch it so it doesn't over cook but the whole family loves Liver and onions.
When I was a little, my Grannie would make liver n' onions. We despised it! I would drown each piece in mashed potatoes and wash it down with milk. It took us kids forever to get through dinner, lol. My Grannie is gone now, and what I wouldn't do to have her make this for me one more time ❤
Oh my that looked delicious! My grandma made that a lot. My favorite was when she’d fry a mess of chicken liver and make gravy in the skillet and have mashed potatoes. It was always so good.
My daddys grandma made liver and onions for him, he introduced me to it when i was a teenager and its my favorite meal. We have it for his birthday and fathers day and i eat it sometimes 2 or 3 times a month. Learned how my great grandma used to make poke salad and thats my favorite side dish with liver and onions. God bless!

Wifey doesn't really care for liver, but every once in awhile she will fix it for me. But we grew up on it and love it. So after watching your video I tried it. And it turned out so good, made me think of my mom when she cooked it for us. Thank you for sharing.
Miss Karen I love liver and onions. I wonder why most people don't. That looks delicious. I always admire your kitchen because it just looks so homey. And the view of the outside with the door open is so pretty. Thank you for sharing.😊
Gosh, that brings back memories of my Grandma. She used to make it for my brother and I when we were staying with her back in Texas. Thank you for the great videos!❤
USA Phoenix, Arizona The 1st thing I do after it is thawed is soak it in 1 cup of butter milk per pound for at least 1 hour before cooking. Pat dry and season with salt, black pepper Korean course red pepper flakes and cut into 1 inch pieces and lightly flour and fry for about 2 minutes per side in about 1/2 inch oil or beaf lard for frying. Then I sauta my onion slices for about 5 minutes then add diced garlic at end of sauta then use that for garnish.
Oh my goodness, I adore liver and onions very much, one of my very favorite foods. I just recently found your channel and i love it, it's so down to earth home cooked meals i grew up with. ❤❤❤
HI Karen I made your liver and onions and my husband thought it was delicious. Something we don't eat often and enjoyed your recipe was a winner. Thank you and hope you are feeling better each day. God Bless You and pap jones.
Karen, this looks delicious. We like liver and onions too. The key is to not over cook it. It is a quick meal to cook. I usually serve it with rice as well. Thanks for sharing.
Nobody here loves Liver and onions but me, I seen your post told my hubby I am going to cook this if I am the only one that eats it OmW it looks so so good
I think that it's how your raised because my grandfather used to call his wallet his pocket book and the refrigerator an icebox creek was pronounced crick I was raised by my grandparents and I still use the same sayings and I'm 50
The terms boil it up and cook it up, are terms Southerners use to quantify the time it takes to boil or cook food. The word "up" at the end means you must boil or cook food until it's done.
Karen, when I was young my mom made liver and gravy and I surprisingly loved it! I haven’t had it in years but I absolutely love chicken liver and have an awesome recipe that my brother gave me. Maybe some day I will do a video on it.
Oh no!!! My mother made me eat liver. But before I did I told her I didn’t like it. She made me eat it anyway and needless to say I got so sick. So I haven’t had it since. But I will have to say it does look 👀 good. ❤️❤️❤️
My husband and I both love liver and onions! I haven’t made it in a long time, but I really need to. My Mom used to make the best liver and onions and that’s where I learned to make it, basically the same way you made it. Thanks for the reminder!
This is one of my very favorite meals. Thank goodness my husband likes it too. We eat mashed potatoes with ours smothered in liver gravy. So good… I need some of this soon. Thank you.. love you bunches beautiful. 🙏🏻🇺🇸🙏🏻I was telling you that you needed that salt and pepper for your gravy. 😂😂What brown gravy mix do you buy?
I love mashed potatoes with it also. Yes ma'am, I salt and peppered the gravy, it's required 😉 I use the Pioneer gravy mix. I buy the big bottles at Sam's or wherever I find it. Much love to you my sweet friend ❤️ ❤️
Karen I love liver and onions. I was brought up taking the flour and salt& pepper & some garlic powder and mix well. And take liver and dip in whisk egg then coat with flour mix. Fry it and side aside. Take some of the grease out and sauté onions and to make gravy with some of the flour . Set liver back into the gravy and onions to simmer while we cook potatoes, ect Yum Yum Oh and what kind of liver do you use.. we only use calf’s liver. Yours looks good though 😊
Seems like peole that won't eat it have never even tried it, like a person who won't read a book because they don't like the cover, I was like that with escargot, love them both. 🤩
In not a fan of liver and onions but my sister is but because of her chrones she cant eat gravy sorry it goes thru her ❤❤❤❤Karen thanks for sharing this recipe with us God/Jesus Bless you and your family

Hello Karen Jones Food & Family. Thank you for sharing your recipe; a big like. First of all, your meal looks divine and delicious. We appreciate your support. People often wonder why some foods are liked and some not so much. Everyone's taste is different. My words may benefit. Being raised around culinary, my mother, the Chef de Cuisine, witnessed and heard a lot about many foods prepared and presented and handed down to her family for food preparation and presentation knowledge. Some people notice flavors and smell more than others. Potatoes are an acquired taste that will taste earthy or nutty. Cilantro may taste like soap to some people. The Aldehyde compounds in cilantro are the same compounds produced in the soap-making process and by some insects. As with the liver, there is an aggressive flavor of earthy, mineral-richness many people like or do not like. Some do not like liver because of the way it was prepared, and sometimes a powdery effect occurs from being over-cooked. The liver's role as a detoxification system could be less appealing and disagreeable to some people. As with all foods, there are personal choices and medical reasons; the liver has high fat and cholesterol content. Baby beef liver is under one year old and does not have the bold flavor as the more aged beef liver we often buy at the grocers. For those who have never eaten it and would like to try eating liver, here are two simple processes that can rid or reduce those aggressive flavors and tenderize older beef livers from cows. 1. For aggressive flavor: leave the raw liver to marinate in an acidic substance such as lemon, lime, or vinegar to eliminate or reduce the unwanted taste. 2. To tenderize older beef livers: soak them in milk; it takes 5 minutes to tenderize. This process will also rid or eliminate some of the toxins present. Your channel support, Sonja and Christopher
Some think adding "up" means to do it now or quickly. I don't think it's just used here in the Southern US. I hear it all the time on tv cooking shows and those cooks are from all over the place.
My mom was the best cook, she made everything from scratch, I've always payed attention to her, stuffed peppers, spaghetti sauce, liver and onions, Salmon patties, home made pies, the dough made from scratch, home made noodles, the best sourkrout balls, when I was little, if I said I didn't like something, she said too bad, this is what we're having, you eat it or go hungry, I could not leave the table until my plate was clean, I'm glad now, I've learned to love all types of food, there is nothing I do not like, I hate when someone says I tried it once when I was little and refuse to try it again.just want to add this year 2024 would be her 100th birthday. I've learned from the best!!!
I absolutely love liver & onions, but my husband can't even stand the smell of it cooking. When he would go out of town I used to have a friend over and we cook liver and onions!

Anyway, the care home I work at in England make liver with fried bacon in onion gravy. Usually have it with mashed potatoes and a vegetable. Surprisingly very popular with the residents. One of the definitions of "up" is "into the desired or a proper condition."
So cooking up means cooking to the desired condition.
I was really close on this one, I was guessing you were in Georgia, than I noticed your address in the description, Alabama.🥳
Some think adding "up" means to do it now or quickly. I don't think it's just used here in the Southern US. I hear it all the time on tv cooking shows and those cooks are from all over the place.
Hi, Karen, I have not masterd gravy. I don't know what temperature to cook it on or how to measure the flour 😢
Follow my instructions and cook on a medium heat. When starting to thicken, reduce heat to simmer. ❤️
I just had this at a restaurant 2weeks ago
You had me at liver and onions with rice and gravy
You cook yours like my mom did. She served hers over a hot split biscuit.

I’ve always heard those terms up when cooking, boiling, stirring too And also seasoning up as well. I think it could just be from the south lol
What can I use as a side besides rice? I tried the liver with rice and didn't like it
Mashed potatoes are a hit with my family. 😋❤️
@@KarenJonesFoodFamily thanks ♥
Did your little spoon come with your salt and pepper? I have had liver and onions once. My mother in law made it .i liked it but hubby doesn't.Guess i go to cracker barrel to have it !!!!
I used a 1/4 tsp measuring spoon. ❤️
I love lambs liver and onions with gravy and serve it with mashed potatoes, not sure about rice with It though.
I've never had lamb
May be "up" is referring to preserving culture where food was stored on shelves for later use.
You should’ve just used the same flour that was used for the liver since it was already seasoned and would’ve loved to have seen the finished plating
Karen how did you make liver and onions look so yummy?
Awww! Thank you. ❤️
Best gravy I have ever made!
Good Lawd😊
Did you say what kind of liver?
I use calves liver. I probably didn't say.
How much flour
Just enough to coat it.

A suggestion why not use the seasoned flour you had to make the gravy
I usually do. In this case, there were more bits than flour, so I used fresh flour. 😉
