My husband's favourite meal -- he likes it with bacon, cabbage and mashed potatoes --- a perfect meal for a cold New Years day. Reminds me --- I'd better get into that kitchen and start cooking.
I came back to this recipe after a few years and dear Lord did I miss it! Rather than masking the liver's flavor, this recipe complements it perfectly and is absolutely delicious.
It never fails...I come to youtube to find something delicious for dinner and I end up finding something I don't already have in the freezer...gotta drive to the grocery store now. Thanks for that!
When you turn your liver over and back again you run the risk of having tough liver. 3 to 5 minutes on each side usually medium fire depending on the thickness is adequate. Too many flips or turns can make your liver like shoe leather. Happy Eating😛
Liver has some of the highest nutrient values (way more than muscle meat, or fish, or any green vegetable) and its completely bioavailable. Liver is extremely healthy to eat.
I love liver and onions. Have loved it since I was a child. We cook our liver dredged in seasoned flour for only a minute on each side. Then we set it aside, cook our onions, putting them both together and then we make a mushroom gravy and pour it over the top. I especially love this recipe for breakfast. I know, sounds weird but liver and fried eggs go great together. Will try your recipe because it sounds wonderful to me. Never thought of lemon on liver but I am sure it goes beautifully as combined flavors. Thanks for sharing.
I prepare it in a similar way to yours. I also have never used lemon juice either. I also make a mushroom gravy. I serve it all up with mashed potatoes.
Who would thumbs down a nice guy who is taking his Time to make a video like this? I Know only 5 people did it but sheesh...i dont care if u thumbs down a pro from food tv or something, but these are regular folks just trying to help....theyre not getting paid for this
Damn good recipe man, thank you. I hope you don't mind that I substituted lemon juice for scotch and added Greek oregano to the sauce, and mushrooms to the onions, it was an awesome dinner, again, thank you.
I have friends who hunt, but they don't like liver! At least not as much as I do. So I get the sliced liver from them, vacuum seal it and freeze it, and eat it on a weekly basis. To me liver tastes sweet! It literally tastes as sweet as an apple. I followed your recipe tonight and it was a delicious dinner.
Well that was very good. The Worcestershire and lemon are great together. I can imagine it being used in other recipes. But the garlic really takes it over the top. Next time I’ll use more onions. Thanks
This is my number one favorite food to cook. I usually place it in the oven with my onions on top but I’ve gotta try it this way on Monday. 😍 Love this video.
Thanks for making this simple and easy. Liver is a good source of iron. I really needed the iron but did not feel like cooking until you made it look so simple. Son as I saw your video I bound into the kitchen and got it cracking! IT WAS SO GOOD I HAD TO STOP MYSELF FROM GLUTON! You saved me from being aperfectio 8sy and I got the blood building meal was initially to weak to cook.
Great and simple recipe... I'm enjoying it right now! I coated the liver with flour first (because I like it crispy) and used lime juice for the sauce instead. Thank you! :)
Until you try liver and onions you don't know how good it is I love it and we also eat Chicken livers as well that are smaller but nicer give it a try thanks Bob in the UK
+Mutant; Baby good morning random person on the Internet. Do you leave random comments on every video you watch and tag random people in them cause you're bored? Please don't answer.
Just like the old saying goes, "there's more than one way to skin a cat", there is more than one way to cook different foods. No one way is the best way, if it tastes good to u, that's all that matters.
That's how I prepare it, minus the sauce, and I don't season it until after because someone told me it toughens the meat. Otherwise, a quick sear on both sides and it's done. Yum!
Thanks for sharing. I finally broke down and made me some liver. It was ok. LoL, believe me, that is a great compliment...I am working with horrific memories of eating liver as a child. What the heck did my parents do to it??? But this was perfectly fine. I just pretended it was just like eating any old muscle (why shouldn't that be just as gross? I was a vegetarian for 2 years in the 90s when it was cool (until my body told me it couldn't handle that), also it mostly for economical reasons to tell the truth. And this liver cost me like 3 bucks, and thats for 4 'steaks'. I spent more on avocados today 😉 Anyway, thanks again, nice video, helpful. And you have a nice voice to listen to 😊
I haven't even watched the video yet, but absolutely wrong. Butter contains lactose. Lactose is a sugar. Sugars brown. (caramelize) Look up brown butter sauce.
This is the first time I ever saw cooing straight liver, (not coated with flour )' and nice to see tongs used to lift meat, as opposed to use Nguyen forks or pronged utensils that puncture the meat. I only flip once during cooking process, the lemon, worchester save etc. Is obviously for your own taste, not something I would entertain. Loved the cooking of onions first, then adding to liver during latter part of cooking process. Thanks for sharing...
Just a hint soak the liver in milk for 30 minutes then pat dry and start I promise you'll get a better result..Lambs liver is also good but calves liver is preferable for this dish
@@Diana-pm5ii Hi. I was taught that it helps to take the bitter taste out that most people don't like about liver and I think it helps tenderize it also. I prefer soaking it in milk then not soaking. I never liked liver very much until trying this now I really like it and enjoy the health benefits also. It doesn't need to be cooked long either but by soaking it I find if I forget and cook it well done it is still very tender and can cut it with a fork. I cook mine in bacon grease which gives it a extra delicious flavor. I use heavy cream to soak it in because it has less carbs than milk and I don't use any flour. Hope this helps you 🙂
I love Liver and onions. Thanks for the upload man because I haven't had this in years. Now I know how to make it and, I can make it often, You are the greatest!!!!

Michael Foulkes grass fed is BY FAR the best, as the liver eliminates all of the body's toxins, so a natural cow is going to be far better for you. Also, didn't know if you knew this tip (although you are using lemon juice), but one should always take some vitamin C (I usually eat a grapefruit) with the liver, as it works synergistically with the incredible source of heme-iron that grass-fed beef liver provides! Thanks again for the vid and for the tip! I live in the Midwest near farms, so I'm very lucky to be waking distance from my local farmers market where they carry grass finished beef of all cuts.
Liver has a unique taste, i think it is one of those things u either love it or hate it. Personally i love the taste, and like he mentioned in this video it is very good for u a lot of nutritional value so if u do happen to like it all the better!
I love liver and onions. im always looking for a new way to spice it up, i just cooked this and I love it! the sauce is soo flavorful! Definitely keeping this recipe thank you
Liver is quite good; I would reduce the cooking time to 2 minutes, depending on how thick your slices are, but 2 per side is usually enough, since the meat tends to get firm very quickly.
Damn that looks good. Thanks for the recipe. U actually do a very good job explaining how to cook. To the point and informative. I would like to see more videos of you cooking but can you use a HD camera and Mike? Sorry I'm asking soon much but I just feel that it is the extra umphh, that you can put in to, to make your videos take off. Cheers
I’m Lebanese. We like to eat liver raw. Make sure it’s the cleanest of cuts, S & P, mint leaf, and raw onion in a small piece of Pita bread. Delicious!

I like this kind of liver better than the kind with gravy. IMO this is the best way to make it

Not as good as goat meat, higher in protein, less fat, less cholesterol, and to much liver can lead to vitamin A toxicity

If your anemic, liver really helps with producing red blood cells.
That's a load of nonsense.
Jenny Masters No its not nonsense ignoramous. Liver is awesome for producing red blood cells.
That's a load a bull. It may be high in iron, but it doesn't grow red blood cells. Or help to.

Butter does not caramelize. The milk solids in it burn and make it taste bitter. Don't burn your butter. :(
DrJonez add some olive oil to stop that butter from burning...and turn down the heat to Med for god sake! Thx Dr Jonez
I haven't even watched the video yet, but absolutely wrong. Butter contains lactose. Lactose is a sugar. Sugars brown. (caramelize)
Look up brown butter sauce.
I've watched the video and he does indeed burn the shit out of the butter. But it does caramelize.
Better to use ghee butter..
Butter contains barely trace amounts of lactose, not even close to enough to caramelize. Just look at the nutrition info, there are no carbs.

God i love liver and onion. Finish it off with some bacon, mash potato, brussell sprouts and carrots. Perfect.
that looks good, simple with few ingredients to just enhance the liver, not covering it up with too many ingredients
Great watchin a trad british dish being cooked outside the uk. Mashed tayters is a must .

I made some the way you made it, the liver came out good! Thanks

works for me - thanks for the demonstration - someone told me calf liver is softer, easier to cut
It is. But its not as tasty

If you're quick you can add a bit of corn starch to the liquid and whisk it up with a wooden spoon and it thickens the sauce in the pan.
