    Antoine de Saint Exupery says "Perfection is not when you can't ad anything, its when you can't remove anything". This knot is exactly what he says, no useless and complicated twist or "X+1" loop where one simple loop do the job, thanks a lot Ben.

    • @livenhfree
      @livenhfree Год назад

      My favorite quote. But just a twist, I think it was actually "Perfection is achieved not when there's nothing more to add, but nothing left to take away." ;-) Either way, good call out!

    Very well explained and illustrated. Thank you for showing how to use a Perfection Loop knot. I will definitely be giving this a try. I've used a Duncan Loop knot (slip knot) for years. The Perfection Loop knot (non-slip) will be very useful. Thank you.

    Appreciate all the positive energy. But after the second to third minute, your left hand is blocking the location of the tag end, does it pass foreground or background to the original line...

    great video but in reality the original basic loop knot is better in that the tag end is facing away from fisherman....i.e less kinks on the way back to the reel and it's just as sturdy of a knot, oh and it's a faster knot to tie.

    Good info, bit the orvis loop or rapala knot are much easier....and you can get a smaller loop, less likely to snag on a hook.

      @brian1204 5 лет назад +1

      Btw I use the perfection loop all the time for leader loops, but ties slightly differently since there isn’t a lure or hook that it passes through.

    That's not a knot you can easily tie when in a kayak or if you are switching lures frequently and you have a leader attached to braid as you would lose far too much leader. A simpler loop is create a loop, pass through the eye or ring on the lure, back through the loop, 3 or 4 wraps over the leader line then back through the loop pull the tag, lubricate and trim. It takes 20 seconds to tie

    I think importantly is 2 points, one how the loop closes doesn't generate much friction and as pointed out in the video the tags end is locked. Just my thought.

    Rather than water or spit, I have found that the knots cinch down easier with lip salve as a lubricant, especially in higher breaking strain. This is not the way I tie perfection loop to a lure. I tie it slightly differently so you can fenangle the knot to make it the length you want with the finished knot closer or further away from the lure according to your preference.

    Something that’s complicated to do with thick line is going to be harder with say fluorocarbon that is only about 6lb test or so ..... if you can do it quickly then great. If not it’s trying to find the quickest easiest safest knot that you can do on the bank. Especially if you live in a cold climate and you have fat fingers 😵😵 ... we all have our own and no matter how many times you see all these fancy not you always end up tying the one you know best 😀

    I followed the demonstration bend for bend and am finding that this knot it slipping on 14lb. fluorocarbon. If you apply pressure on the inside of the knot against itself, it literally falls apart. It can take pressure one way, but not another, it loses hold.
    Is this something anyone has experienced or is there some minor fuck up on my end?

    • @BenNorway
      @BenNorway  4 года назад

      Fluorocarbon is stiffer and has less surface friction, making it less ‘friction locking’. Then it should be even worse for PE superlines like FireWire etc. but in any case I think most of the use of this knot is with leaders of Nylon. I use it also with fluorocarbon when fly fishing and it has never opened on me but at the same time my leaders break more early from scratches and stone abrasion, that is before any knot break.

    No criticism intended but a loop knot with a tag end at 90° would never work where I fish. Too much grass. When I tie a looo knot the tag end lays straight back parallel with the standing line. This perfection knot looks like a nightmare at12 midnight when the bite is going off and you're trying to re rig. Not criticism just opinion.

      Actually thgis knot can be tied a lot closer than this demo and should be. The reason for the large loop is dueto the need to make things big enough that you can see how it's tied.
