One of your best videos !!!!!!!!!!!!! I changed my decision on buying my first two (or maybe 3) congas and I will buy 1 for starting practise, with my bongos .... I will take my time. You gave this advice in the past and you are very right man....No need for rush.... Nice t-shirt by the way👍!!!!!! Hola from Greece!!!!
You all probably dont care at all but does any of you know of a method to get back into an Instagram account..? I somehow lost the password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Callen Tyler Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Tumbao with one conga is important to learn, especially for the street percussionist who can carry only one conga on the road. Or for the small acoustic band, where the percussionist do not want to bring too many instruments, and want to vary from conga, bongo, to cajon for each and every song the band want to perform in the small restaurants, lounges, or coffee houses
One conga rocks. I play djembe so one drum makes a lot of sense to me. The tumbao with the variations at the end, man I could listen to that for hours. Much appreciated Maestro.

Thank You so much Eric! These videos are very inspirational! I'm actually going through your (and others) lessons, after playing solely "by ear" for years. My playing has improved 10 fold, thanks to you and some of the legends like Dandy Rodriguez, Eddie Montalvo, and Jimmy Delgado, and Bobby Sanabria, etc.
Great video Eric! Even older school - try with no left hand marcha/manoteo whatsoever, only a palm bass tone on the left hand. Leaves a lot of space. I sometimes do that also when playing Rumba Columbia....gives it more oomph!
My first conga was an lp carabie conga before moving on up to LP Aspire congas then moved onto a second Aspire conga & turned into goodwill thrift store my LP carabie conga for someone that can't afford to buy a quality conga drum. That conga let a lone a travel size I think of the carabie conga. It sounded good but didn't go with my aspires on how much I tuned the carabie conga. Now that I use LP Giovanni galaxy congas with LP Giovanni galaxy bongos my LP Aspire congas sound good, but want better quality since my playing as improved thanks to you man!
Perfect timing, bro!!! Incidentally, I am down to one conga-- My tumbadora fell off the back of Pops truck and got a slight crack...gotta replace my head too. Looking into the steelhead. Tks again!
0:45 All day everyday Lol. Wear a gopro livestream all day and drum a little bit every 30 minutes on any flat surface every location you're in with live commentary. Thanks for great video.
Hi, Thank you for an awesome video. I have a question though, regarding the clave direction. Could you please expand on that? Thank you again, and congratulation on your 1 year old tutorial Thursdays.
I just came across your video and this is awesome! I am new to playing congas. I have both a conga and quinto. Does it matter which drum I play the tumbao on?
Breaking down the Eddie Montalvo tumbao from Pedro Nabaja. He told me that when they recorded it, people thought he was using a bass drum. Woooooooo...MASACOTE GOOOORDOOO
Thank you very much for the great video. I have a question. Is it better to get a quinto or a conga when getting that one and first drum (to expand the bongo setup)? Muchas gracias por el genial video. Tengo una preguntita. Es mejor comprar el quinto o la conga como primer tambor (para añadir a los bongós)? Saludos de Suecia
Eric another awesome video and one that is really most important. Definitely learning how to play in one conga drum is super important, if you can make one sing then imagine how can you make 2 or 3 sound like! Keep it up Bro!
I was bombarded with advertisements during the tutorial after waiting painfully to find out what this man was trying to tell me only to find out he had his own take on a tumbao. He keeps talking like he’s an expert drummer for some reason.
Exelente video!
Hi Eric, i'm new to conga, and only have one drum, and was wondering if theres a book or any other resourse that has rhythms specifically for one drum?
This is the first video that I really like from you. I don`t like that you never explain context. It's like "play this exercise (although I don't remember actually using it anywhere )". So what would be the point? Most of conga tutorial never explain context, is it for intro? is it for salsa? is it for timba? does it match cascara? do you play it for mambo or for son? Or probably your tutorial are intended only for intermediate players? Cheers, man. I dont mean any offense, it's just my feeling. Thank you
Great video brother. Very important to be able to do these patterns on one drum. Glad you addressed the variety of tones one conga can bring to the song. I’ve done a few jazz gigs with one conga and it was a very interesting experience, and very enjoyable. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. God bless you. Conga Jack. Check me out on U TUBE.

Yesss very true!
So true.
I am going to conga lessons for 1 year now and still the beauty in this groove is just amazing. Thx for sharing!
Would be nice if you did a series on playing different rhythms just on one drum.
You wouldn't believe the smile you put in my face... I have to cancel everything for today and get practicing!! ¡Gracias!
Hahahaha! Enjoy! and Thank you!

Yes I agree I really need to perfect the one conga playing. Thank you. 😊
Just starting out here and this is exactly the type of video that I need. I'm still a little frustrated but I'm plugging away. Thanks for the lesson!

Fabulous timing. I want to get 2, but ... even after years of djembe I'm not so sure!
This is perfect.

Its amazing oh how you cut the entire pattern into smaller parts for the beginners.

Hey Eric..can show us how to do the finger slide on the conga head. El pelito...Pablo Rosario did it on David Bowie albums
ERIIIIIIC! You Are Awesome! Thanks For The Vid Bro! God Bless.
Triplet slap for the win!
YAY! haha
Grateful for you too 😊😊😊
Thank you for this
good since I only have one ... greetings from El Salvador
I'm not really smart about afro cuban rhythms and the like but, this reminds me a lot of martello on bongos
Mas Firme Eric. Sabroso👍

What's the size of that drum? It looks large... great video, btw, thx!
Thank you very much.

Hi Eric, i'm new to conga, and only have one drum, and was wondering if theres a book or any other resourse that has rhythms specifically for one drum?
Cool
How is this conga pattern different than the March rhythm pattern? Same thing as tumbao???
That was filthy... thank you
It would be great with more one drum-rhythms!

why do some use 3 Congas? are they different sizes?
Arriba LAS CONGAS !!!
Ese está bueno por ahi hay un montón que hacen doble triples tocan 10 ti.ba a la ve y con una se vuelven un 8
Daniel O Navarro Hahaha de Verdad
Instruction starts 2:55 the tumbao is this: 4:56 begins the fundamental instruction
I’m confused….. what’s the difference between the tumbao and marcha?
This is 2:3 clave yes?
Eddie Montalvo doesn't need a bunch of congas.
I like conags.
Why don't you take off the ring?
In MA hands interfere with it, and hurts
Bongos when??

After cutting through all the talking I learned that you’re just making up stuff
A bit straighter to the facts would be great...
Perhaps you didn't even listen to what he said at the beginning of the video. Shut up and listen
