So enjoying these videos, Eric. I’m almost 61 and took up hand drums and percussion at 57. Took lessons for about three years and feel like I’m getting fairly good for someone who doesn’t play every day. I’ve been incorporating tap into my Rhythm since I was a former professional dancer. I love all things percussion and I would love just one lesson from you!
Love it. Really get a lot from your video. I’ve been playing for just two years - now 59 years old! My back made me give up tap dancing, so now I’m tapping with my hands 👊🏻
Wow, thank you so much.I learn so much from your video's. I'm 63 years old and always loved playing percussion but had not much oppertunity to practice. Now my kids are bigger so have a little more time to practice. So once again thank you so much you explain it so cool.!!!! Big hello from France.
This funk pattern has literally become my foundational pattern for any Funk that I've now play. It is so encompassing, and I can take different pieces of it and crate different rhythms off of a particular section. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge Eric. -Gerry
This was one of the very first Funk grooves that I learned, and have since been able to modify and create off of it. It's a nice base to work from. Thank you Eric for posting you're much appreciated!
Hi Eric! You are awesome. I got Congo’s from my kids last year,2020, I’m female 62 years old. God has blessed me with rhythm. I’m really interested in learning. I’ll be back. I did subscribe to your channel
Dope Dope Dope ! Man someone just game me a cabasa a set of congas and another small drums on a stand that I'm unaware of. I am ever so grateful I'm gonna repay them in MASTERY! Thanks 4 this video Hermano
Revisiting these videos again. So cool to adapt your pattern from 2 to 3 and then 4 congas... wirh repetitions... occaissionally putting small variations on the count of four before starting again. Gracias Eric!
More awesomeness from a true Conguero. Saludos desde Inglaterra. I run a drum circle at local psych ward and the healing power of the drum is astounding. Keep smashing the grooves hermano. Mil gracias!!!
Eric, im about ten yrs behind on all this wonderful info. Hopefully ill make it to 70 so i can get all this cool stuff your showing us down. Love to ya brother
Love love this since I am into funk, chillout lounge, deep house, house, deep house lounge, latin hip hop so this worked great man I can add my crazy style to this pattern yeah groove out chill relax I am there!
Maestro...sto studiando questo funky on congas e noto che gli accenti sono sulla clave di rumba 2-3....molto interessante. Grazie per le tue informazioni. Max.
A really cool groove that would be great for you to break down is the groove starting at :59 on Ghana Spice by Candido. I have to admit, the more I play, I gravitate to more African rhythms vs tumbaos. Perhaps a series for conga players interested in music that is not heavily rooted in Latin Jazz but rather the conga playing heard in jazz from the 60’s/70’s ( Herbie, Miles, etc) or African music like Fela, and other forms of music that explore the African side of conga playing?
Love the videos glad to see the younger generation pickup this beautiful instrument. You are a good teacher I recommend your videos to others. Check out some of the cats that played funk in the 60’s 70’s. Henry Gibson (Curtis Mayfield percussionist) Alex Acuna, Ralph McDonald many more.
“Crazy” (Lol). I just found your videos and see your a brother in Christ as I am! It gets better and better. I have playing for the Lord for 25 years going on 65years young. God loves congas! and percussion. Most important He loves and saved me.
hi Eric !! i'm french living in south near Marseille!! enjoy so much your video.. very clear!! love play funky groove on Congas.. ! what about your drums? you prefere MEinl than LP? thank's bro!
Hello Eric , I’m new to your channel. This is a cool rythym , sounds like Mozambique . I started playing congas again because I want to improve in what I already know . I’m still a beginner and hope your videos can help me . This one is good 👍🏼
Great video and very cool conga pattern. Thank you for a very detailed tutorial. P. S: Can you please make a video 'bout Kizomba pattern? Thanks in advance. God bless you and your channel. 🎼🎵🎶🪘🙌
nice groove (sabrosa), I find that it would probably work best if there is no drummer giving that you are doing a basic funk kit groove, kick and snare align with your major beats, a basic tumbao usually works best in my opinion when doing funk, of course ultimately it's the band leader who will decide what he/she likes best, thanks for the post
Manuel, I friend of mine always has me show him that song. Trick is, it is one of those songs that alot of other instruments don't always play the rhythm that spot on. I play a lot of duos with just myself and a guitar player. Without the keys, the feel is often interpreted very differently! Haha So, once you think you have it, and they call it out. Know the part that you have in your head, but be flexible to line it up with whatever bastardization they have done to it...not everyone is Steve Winwood or Leon Russell (keys)
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS ON THE LATIN RYTHEMS BUT NOT ONCE HAVE I PLAYED THESE. IN FACT, WHEN PLAYING LIVE I DON'T EVEN NOTICE THE SONG BUT HAVE A FEELING WHAT TO HIT AND IMAGINE HOW THE AUDIENCE HEARS THIS.
hey man! thanks for the video and excellent lecture, I'm playing conga for few months, but first wont to ask you about congas..have some Stagg 10'' and 11''..and it's very hard to find nice sound and slap is very tight in place...etc.., I have some experience with drum set..played for ten years in blues band so it's not that I hit drum for first time, and I know that drums dont make drummer but just a question : do I need to get better congas for serious playing..haw much difference does it make?
Did you shout out Ooh Wee?! What a coincidence, the congagroove sounded like Mark Ronsons “Ooh Wee” or am I wrong? Fantastic tutorial. Thank you so much.
Hey man, thanks so much for what you do. I love you're persut. I was wondering if you've ever studied African rhythms. I know it varies, it's a huge continent, but I was wondering if there are hooks or repeated rhythms. Like, I've noticed the accent on three a lot and some tribes love using several polyrhythms between individuals. Anything you've picked up on, I would love to hear. Thanks again!
Thank for ALL your work Eric. Appreciate SO MUCH 😇............. I am having difficulty in incorporating cymbals with conga in contemporary / Christian music. Also, trying to play around with shakes with conga. If you can bro, pls HELP 😇
