      WatchAdvisor how do they perform? Are any of the movements Cosc certified?

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  4 года назад +1

      They are not! But COSC anyhow is something you simply can avoid if you take good care of your movements. It is easy to attempt those -4/+6 seconds by COSC with any modern movement manufactured by ETA. All these by Longines used movements are performing better than this...

    Hi Alex, great watches, I have always felt that longines watch making history and contribution are top notch. The problem is that they are owned by a conglomerate that has forced them to stay within a certain price point, which is a shame. Very much like a racing horse that has the potential to go much faster but has been tied down.

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  4 года назад +2

      This made absolute sense and still makes sense... If Nicolas G. Hayek would have chosen Omega to be positioned under Longines it today would be Omega who would play the role of Longines in the group. But wait a little and you will see that Longines is coming back with a lot of very, very cool watches. Longines vs. Tudor is name of the battle!

    • @eddiedevonrex2308
      @eddiedevonrex2308 4 года назад +1

      I agree and disagree with your statement, it makes business sense, yes. But infrequently some of the swatch lower tier watches should be allowed to unleash their top tier creations without interference. I am sure longines vaults have some spectacular old chrono movements and designs that can compete with the best. It’s also good for the morale of master watchmakers at longines rather than being pigeonholed. Sometimes a bit of creative destruction is good for a company.
      Lastly, I wish they would give a option of sapphire casebacks as an extra option to look at the movement. Nomos does that

    Good looking watches for sure Alex. It's nice to see Longines becoming more prominent in the market (or that's the way it seems over here) and especially nice to watch them flex their history to their advantage. I recall as a child with no knowledge of watches, hearing the name Longines, and thinking " what a cool name, this must be a high class watch". Years later I learned that Lindberg had used an Longines watch to navigate his historic flight and I wondered why they weren't prominent any more. It seems that is changing. Thanks once again for your detailed coverage of this new collection. If I could ask a small question, is this new calibre 888 the same base as Tissot is using as the 8S (I believe), something of an ETA 2824 with a free sprung balance and silicon hairspring?

    I respect Longines as a brand, it's history and some nice pieces. I also understand the idea behind trying to recreate the look after so many dacades. But.. for such a thick watch I would still expect a nice date window (so much blank unused space) and a chronograph that can deliver, not just 30 minutes counter... 🙈

    • @WatchAdvisor

      That’s a module chronograph, so the date would look like the one at the AP Royal Oak Offshore Chronos... better not! The 30-minute-counter is identical with the historic watch shown in the video and the latter does also have no date...

      Usually modular movement is easy to repair, you know...
      Maintenance repair usually only consist of repairing the main movement, as most of the time, chronographs aren't like running constantly like its main movement during the wear. But if there's problem in the module, we just replace it with the new module. It's the way it is if you're servicing your watch when you go to swatch group service Center, but, if you go to your own watchmaker, it is indeed a headache, especially this chronograph module used, as it's not dubois depraz modules like tag heuer and any other brand used thus the pushers are sitting in different plane from the crown, but it used specifically made module by eta for Longines (rado used it too, with their own configuration), which need special movement holder just to put the module in place. It have much different construction compared to the dubois depraz. Let's say that you compare it to a stack of a burger which had a lot of different fillings. The dubois depraz feels like a stack of big mac as whenever after the filling, it got buns in between to kept the filling in place, while this module is like a burger stacked with lots lots of filling so high that if you don't press up the top buns, the fillings just going to fall apart from the burger. In that case, the special movement holder would act like a stick/toothpick to put all the stacks of the filling together so it doesn't fall apart, which if your watchmaker don't have, it will be really hard to put it down together.

      The historic HEUER Monaco was equipped with the Calibre 11 and there the crown was on the left side of the case whilst the push-pieces were at the right side. I love the misalignment, always reminding me of this history of being the first autonatic chronograph but with the little drawback that it wasnt integrated like the el primero. A flaw in the design as a reminder of the flaw in technique. So the misalignment is part of that history of a movement being first of a kind but with a flaw.... because of that it wouldn't bother me. You know what I mean? It is a conversation starter about the history of the watch. Of course it is more elegant with this Longines chronograph...but still.

    Just don't understand the fuss about the date - its one of the most useful complications you can have! Far more than necessary than a chronograph.

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  2 года назад +1

      The date window disrupts the design of the dial… that’s the “fuss” …

    • @qwertyman9560
      @qwertyman9560 2 года назад

      @@WatchAdvisor You got to be kidding if you say a date complication "disrupts the design" more than complicated perpetual calendars, moonphases and chronos! In any case, intelligent placement of the date window can easily solve the problem - example placing it at 6 o clock with color matched date disk. Anyways to each his own, to me a watch is incomplete without the date, however much some purists may get bent out of shape with that notion :)

    Very nice. Except for the straps. Why are watch makers so reluctant to at least provide clients with a deployment clasp option though, especially at those prices?
    If there's something I hate it's tang buckles. Leather always gets ruined over time.

      You see Albert tastes are again different. I e.g. don’t like these folding clasps. And I never ruined a strap with a classic pin buckle...
