A separate winding key is just something else to lose, imagine how frustrating it would be to realise you can’t wear your £100,000 watch because you’ve left the key in your other mansion, then you’d have to send your private jet to go and collect it for you because you want to wear that watch at the supermodel party your hosting on your yacht. I’m glad I don’t have those kind of worries.
flawed though... water exiting at a higher pressure also exits at a higher flow rate. This fills the bucket faster, dumping the bucket more often per unit of time. For this analogy to suit, it has to be a regulator that creates a uniform rate of flow. All this analogy does is create a uniform pressure on the water wheel... but the rate at which the pressure is applied still decreases over time, thus the water wheel speed will decrease over time as well.
Chad Kemp But isn't the two-water-bucket analogy much similar to how the watch works? The main spring (and the sub spring too) in the watch isn't like a uniform water flow, it's like a bucket of water. Power flow starts strong and gets weakened as time passes. If it could be compared to a uniform flow of water then two-step mechanism wouldn't be of any need in the first place.

I bought a Christopher Ward Malvern for under £500 in December 2018. A very similar Omega De Ville is currently costing about £2800. Very pleased with mine.
Though I think that just saying that the intermediate spring is always at the same weak tension when released by the balance, because it has been fully wound by the main spring, makes it more understandable. I don't like analogies.
The secondary spring I'm guessing is what is also making the hour hand "click" ever so slightly, yet noticably, instead of sweeping like a traditional movement. Anyone else notice the hour hand motion? This thing is amazing!
