Great video, but this is totally insane, it's real madness! You have to take apart all the console to arrive to the battery! Are they fool?! I remember the Sega Saturn, that had a specific door on the back to access the CR2032 battery... why Sony did this for a piece that needs to be replaced after some years?!
It does seem crazy how much you have to take it completely apart to get to it. When I find something like this, I would likely two things. I would solder on two sets of wires off the solder points on the bottom of the PCB where the battery holder is. From these two sets of wires, I would solder on a separate holder that can be placed elsewhere in the case as I'm sure there is room under the DVD drive area so that less has to be removed to replace in the future. The second set of wires would be left covered but available so you could solder on another battery holder temporarily with a battery in place as you do the actual replacement so that the time isn't lost in the process of the battery swap itself.

@Resident Zombie Because it's easy for him, while they're not confident about opening an electronic device and risk damaging it :/ Sometimes when a relative knows how to do a thing and you don't, he does it for you. And some other times, it's the opposite.
I had already just replaced the thermal compound and gave my ps3 a thorough clean and now realized I could have replaced the clock battery while I was in there.

Did nobody else notice that he didnt replace the thermal paste on the GPU? If youre making an instructional video for people that dont know what they're doing maybe you should actually know what youre doing. I can only imagine how hot that GPU is getting now after you put it back together with the crusty old thermal paste on it.

I bought a second hand ps3 recently and I've had problems already, next to where my controller is connected there's something that looks like a battery symbol? it keeps flashing yellow when I'm using the console when playing games etc. Tried getting it repaired but the guy I took it too said there's no issues? Should I keep the console or just ask for my money back and buy a new ps3.
Hey Blaine, i have a question, So i Installed Evilnat CFW from your tutorial, I want to dualboot with littlebalup 4.87 Dualboot Firmware. But for some reason the PS3 sees my USB with PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP. But when I try to update it via storage media, it says no applicable update data was found, and i can't get it to recovery mode because the touch power button is unstable and doesn't always detect my finger, sometimes it does but when i am holding the power touch it loses my finger and doesn't do the recovery mode procedure. Why doesn't the ps3 detect the update file?
You are talking about the Fat model, right? Try to get off the top cover of your ps3 and then press the power button without the cover, if thats not working either make your finger little bit wet and try again.
@@kimsoo16 Why? because most PS3 games will perish and all PS3s will perish as well. So we don't own consoles just borrow them from Sony. And the PS fanboys will come crying to PC guys to preserve their games
So I have a question if you replace the battery with a new one, can you still play your digital games and collect trophies? Those 2 things are the important parts for me. Since I bought my ps3 in 2014 and I probably have around 2 to 7 more years of it being alive.

Straight to the point and very well explained. 👍
