Keep in mind that there are two variations of the ps3 slim where the fan is placed differently. The current model being shown is the newer model which fixed overheating problems due to the fan location
Found that out just as in the ifixit and they referenced this video at the part of the battery. I am going to leave mine in there. I have disected hardware but gonna leave be
So i just took apart, cleaned, and put back together my ps3. It turns on fine, and takes the disc, but when it takes the disc, it makes a sound like its trying to take the disc again, and nothing happens. It doesn't read the disc. Any ideas? I figured it out. It was the ribbon cable under the disc reader. I forgot to insert it back in. Its working perfectly now!
Awesome video, really helped me replace that battery. Can't believe I had to take apart the entire PS3 just to get to it, but your vid made it a breeze!
The guide was helpful. I just wish it was not so complicated to just replace one battery. The CMOS battery is usually in plane sight once you open the device. So many steps and a lot could go wrong. I was able to replace the battery, replace the thermal paste, and clean the system. The system was back to running again with little problems.
Why cant the 5 screws that go on the front part of the motherboard cant be screwed back into place?? For some reason none of them fit and they all fall from the motherboard, those are the two silver and 3 black screws, what can be done about this? This is messed up
I liked this video, and it was the exact model I was working on, so was nice to follow since I also have the newer fan system. I did however look at several videos before this one, and there is a much better way to remove the ribbon cable for the Disk drive. It basically involves taking the drive apart while still in the case, and removing the cable from the lazer rather than the board. The drive comes apart with about 5 screws and some locking clips... Very fast and MUCH easier. But many thanks for the video....I enjoyed it.
At 9:31... Sure that part is the most difficult, the best way to connect that disc drive down cable is to open the disc drive, disconne t it from the laser bulb, connect it alone to the place it belongs then get it into the drive disc then now reconnect it to laser and close the drive disc then and that's it..
Nice tutorial man, helped alot not missing something and screwing it up... Though slim models have slight differences here and there, it wasn't too difficult, just tedious to deal with so much parts and dust haha. It runs smoothly at 35c now, 60c playing with fan at 25% although i might just change it to 30% speed for good measure.
At 4:22... As you did i will never advise people to disconnect the EJECT POWER ON/OFF panel because his cable connection to the mother board is truly délicate to plug and unplug, we gotta be careful with that one, i've broke mine here while using my vaccum cleaner 😢 was a bad idea, never use a vacuum cleaner to clean your devices, use a small paintbrush with soft moves it's better...
If the battery dies, you'll have to sign into PSN everytime you turn the playstation on. Which is fine if you have internet, but I work offshore where I have no internet access.
Its sad that cmos battery placement is so difficult to reach. I tried today but gave up after removing the power supply. Companies should have a separate section for cmos battery that can be easily replaced. But, these corporation have to earn money 😞.
Finally fuxken done. The ribbon cable of the disc drive So fuxken hard. it took me about 20min just connect it. also my hands are big. And all removing and installing back together. it took me 3hrs of work just to clean my Thermal paste. And i will Never gonna do it again for the next 3-4years
The real challenge of disassembling and reassembling this specific model of slim is that one ribbon cable under the disc drive, motherf......... so much pain... rest ezpz lmn sqzzy
For anyone having trouble with the underside optical drive ribbon cable.. ruclips.net/video/O7Qpsg2KcXQ/видео.htmlsi=gKH8Gwdg5ztZvkd8 This way makes way more sense 😅

(Great video as usual, Kevin)
There should be a regulation forcing all manufacturers to make those batteries easily replaceable
Thanks for the video. A very helpful reminder if you don't tinker with a PS3 every week.

I would caution anyone replacing the old clock battery that the plastic slot for it can be brittle and possibly break.

This video was such an immense deed to human kind from beginning to end. Thank you!!!!!

Something you missed was how much Thermal paste to put on
just a pea size drop it will spread
j'ai utilisé pour ma part une seringue de deux gramme partagé équitablement et tout est ok.
Buy thermal paste pads. Last longer. Look em up.
thanks, man. i was needed tutorial like this. 🤝
thanks, this helped me fix my blu-ray drive after a 5 pence coin got stuck inside from the last owner, works great now!

great video boss
Is it necessary to add new glue after taking off the board?

Ps4 slim next thanks!
my bluray drive only has the 1 blue big stripe, not 3.. is that normal? still works fine though
How to take out the fan? Are there any screws on top of it?
@8:01 if this battery is not changed, can it make your PS3 not work ??
If the battery dies, you'll have to sign into PSN everytime you turn the playstation on. Which is fine if you have internet, but I work offshore where I have no internet access.
What do you use to clean off the old thermal paste, and what do you use to clean dust from the internals?
Isopropyl alcohol and paper towel for the thermal taste and canned compressed air to clean dust

I have a PS3 super slim.. is the battery the same? What model number battery?
