    I recently sprayed metallic base on a hood with the r500 and it was a motled blotchy disaster. Most of the videos I watched said to spray base at 20-25psi but I think this particular gun needs more to get the air moving. I also have the aeropro a610 which is supposed to be an improved version of the r500 and it sprays pretty good at 20-25psi. I think the air cap holes are slightly larger. Love your vids. Cheers from across the pond👍

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  Год назад +1

      Hi Marc, I definitely think this needs more than 20 to 25psi for virtually all basecoat, particularly silvers and the like.
      I've recently got an LPH400 LVX and already had a Wider4L, now they can certainly spray complex colours at a low pressure, this certainly isn't in that league although with the pressure up does fairly well especially considering how much they are.
      I was thinking of trying the A610 and probably still will, so it would be interesting to see how it goes. Cheers, mate, thanks for watching 👍

    I have Summitracing LVLP, and Eastwood LT100 which are all the same guns as your R500. I use it with a Husky 20 gallon quiet version, but i modifed it with high flow regulator and an aftercooler with a muffin fan. Yours just needs to be lubed, mine are smooth trigger. The thing to look out for are the holes on the air horns, sometimes they are offset and not centered. There is a new version of this R500 which has a updated look and still use the same needle sets. I had one but i returned it because the trigger was sticky, I took it apart and found out that its a bushing. The older R500 is o-ring which is smoother.

      They are really good as they are a proper diaphragm regulator, so regulate the pressure and stop any fluctuations.

    The tank came out beautiful! Proof that in the right hands, its a workable gun. However, as I watched it spray, I couldnt help but wonder if anyone using such pressure as needed to get similarly satisfactory results on a full respray on a car as you have on the tank, the amount of overspay build-up in a garage or homemade booth might be problematic. I say that as most using such an inexpensive gun more than likely wont have the exhaust capabilities to handle large plumes. A hard lesson I had to learn in my experiences as well.
    Still, it's a good entry level budget gun if one considers its use within reason including real air consumption. If not, the FLG5 might be the next inexpensive option with higher quality.

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  Год назад +1

      Hi Boss, very well put, using the lower pressure it's said this gun can run at just doesn't produce the goods and bumping it up has the negative effects you mentioned.
      There's certainly a place for it, mainly down to it low price, although there's little pleasure returned to the painter that a better quality tool can provide, cheers mate 👍

    Hi Pete, not sure what happened here mate but I'm sure I left you a comment on here early this afternoon but I've forgotten what I said now🙄
    Anyway here goes🤔 the R500 did a really good job on the base and it laid the clear really nice mate, for a gun of that price you really can't complain, it looked quite a fast gun as well as it seemed to put out a fair amount when you were laying the clear, if it's only loosely based on the W400 then it can't be that bad👌
    I used the NVE for basecoat this morning and I have to say it did a great job as it went on nice and smooth, I'm not sure if you will like the colour as it didn't look as good on the panel as I thought it would, we will see when it's cleared🤞🤞
    Thanks Pete and I hope you are ok mate👌👍

      Hi John, you probably did leave a comment, mate, but the comments section isn't working properly at the moment.
      It's a nightmare trying to answer the comments as when I click on them, it says, "something went wrong, try again." It's been doing that since yesterday morning!
      Yeah, it is a good gun for the 40 USD these sell for, I should have sent it to you with the others, but I didn't think, sorry.
      Of all these guns, I think the NVE comes out pretty well, considering the price , I thought it was pretty good with basecoat and not bad for clear, shame it feels so heavy, it only a bit more than the DV1 but feels a lot more to me.
      Cheers, John, all good here, mate 👍

    Hi Pete, great video as always 👍 The tank came out really well right at the end! Shame you can’t get a air flow meter I wonder if you could rig something up based on a welding gas flow meter, I have one you put on the end of the tip as a quick test, maybe something similar?? Or even make an inline one although you would need either Perspex or glass that can take the full pressure of your air setup. Hope you find something one day mate. Cheers.

      @peteshobbies5383  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Steve, Yeah, I would like something that would really tell me, but I am starting to get to know a rough guide with my setup on.
      Also, you can tell if one gun is using more than another if you swop regulators without adjustment , if a gun is using more air than the one you took it off of the pressure you get will drop compared to the reading on the gun you just removed it from if that makes sense, cheers mate, hope alls well 👍

    I have this gun too and use it for spot repair primer, definitely not very low air consumptionand I think way too many people on RUclips have bought into the manufacturer advertising, I got it initially to use with a 4 gal compressor for mobile headlight tinting but it uses more air than the minijet 4400 RP in the 1.2SR tip and doesn't leave as good of a finish as well as being slower

    • @MarcBchannel
      @MarcBchannel Год назад

      Ya I bought into the hype too😁. It's not terrible but not great. It gets the job done. I got it because of the hype of it having low overspray but you have to crank up the pressure to get it to work right and that gets you more overspray. Something like an LPH400 would probably be better to keep the overspray down but I don't have the air for it.

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  Год назад

      I haven't seen many videos of others using this gun, so it was surprise to me that apparently so many are saying it's a low air consumption low overspray gun. It's neither, especially as you need to up the pressure to get a decent finish.

      @MarcBchannel Год назад

  • @BearBudgetTurbine
    @BearBudgetTurbine Год назад +5

    I've seen it used to paint an entire car with a 20 gallon compressor. I have guns that will deplete my 20 gallon and make me wait. This R500 does not. So actual cfm? Don't know. I spray base at 25 clear at 30 with it when I use it. High solids clear even higher. For the money I have been impressed. I paid anout 40 U.S.

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  Год назад +3

      Hi buddy, I would guess it's around 7.5 cfm at 30 psi, so a little less than the Iwata Bellaria BA4-2 cap.
      You could run this on a 25 gallon compressor and do a complete car respray without problems as long as the compressor was delivering over 8cfm FAD, that's the problem, the manufacturer of this are saying this is between 3.5 and 4.5 cfm which it clearly isn't, I know it good by full size gun standards but nothing like they claim, It certainly good value for money, of that there's no doubt

    • @bosshawg7427
      @bosshawg7427 Год назад +1

      I have the earlier version and sprayed a whole vehicle, but the compressor was a 60 gallon one. Still, it was a bit of work as it's a bit slow to keep a wet edge when going around a car. The orange peel was thick rather since opening up the gun was necessary to achieve max coverage and max fan width. Imagine dealing with that on a small compressor that's constantly cycling, and now you'll need extra precaution to eliminate moisture from the line and gun. I don't think anyone is saying it's impossible, rather it's not ideal and if you're able to use a gun that's realistically 8 cfm, then a mere 1-1.5 cfm more puts you in range of much more capable guns. So it's really not the air usage, it's cost.

    • @MassiDeVita
      @MassiDeVita Год назад

      My compressor is more or less 7 CFM. The Auarita K-400 has a 1.4 mm tip, so it releases more material, I suppose. Others gun I'm considering are the original and professional Asturo AB-17G 1.4 mm (more professional than the classic H-827 gun) and the Ntools CV1 1.3 mm (that I suppose is a good reply of the Devilbiss DV1). I hope you can test these guns in the future, so I could choice easily the one that best suits my needs (also considering the robustness of the materials they are made of and the availability of the various spare parts). ☺️

      The one in this video is my favourite gauge, you can lock it as you say but the best feature is it has a diaphragm regulator inside it so it gives you a really even air supply especially when you first pull the trigger.
      The gauge is made by Meiji . their model number is MAR. They also do a digital version called an MARD, I prefer the none digital as its smaller, which is better on smaller guns 👍

    If you want to know CFM. From my (very) rusty physics A level, measure your resevoir tank (or trust the manufacturer) then see how long it takes for the gun to discharge between two pressures. 6 bar to 4 would probably work well as this is above the regulator pressure so gun flow should be constant. Boyles law, I think

    Hi Pete! Bought a R500 spray gun off Amazon but I have doubts about it. Trigger is not smoth at all and it looks like R500 lettering on the side of the gun is etched on whereas your gun looks like they are molded in.
    Makes me wonder if I have a copy of a copy.

      Hi Brian, The one I have is an Aeropro R500, although they are all made by Rongpeng in China. Mine has the R500 molded into the casting, but they could change that when they like, I guess.
      As far as the trigger goes, mine keeped sticking after every use, so I stripped it down, and it's fine now.
      Was yours an Aeropro version?

      @peteshobbies5383  4 месяца назад

      Hi Matt, Sounds like something isn't right mate, if you look at the regulator and the gun you should see a male taper on the regulator and a female taper on the gun, these are supposed to mate to create a seal that's held together by tightening the nut.
      Have you just been hand tightening it so far?

      @MrCopRobo You may get away with it. The tank in this video needs around 240 ml of clear coat, which is about the same as a larger car door.
      You would get around 6 seconds on a full tank before the compressor kicks in. You will then be losing air, but if you're only spraying for say 20 seconds per coat, it should work.
      It's not ideal to have to wait for the compressor to top up, especially in warmer weather, when the materials you are laying will start to dry/cure before you can get more on
