Really wanted this to test out to be true, as I could see this being a way to power individual component speakers in a cheap way. But I guess I dream big if I dream at all. Hey big d, this is Parkers friend the one with the Subaru Baja, it was an honor to give you a demo at the sundown show, thanks for singing my subs/ maybe you could shoot me a follow!
I use the 4-channel version of this amp in my winter car, reason is the 30a fuse that allow powering it via a fuse dashcam adapter and not run a dedicated power wire (I know it's now ideal). It performs well driving stock speakers and clearly provide a clean boost of power compared to HU output. No distortion at all even at high volume. Maybe it does not reach rated power, but it sound really good and is one of the very few amp that can be easily installed under the dash or behind the HU.
I have the exact amp and am impressed for the price point. It is significantly better then a head unit. It may not do rated Power, but it feels every bit of 30-35rms.
The size is cool but I can't imagine it being useful for anything other than a motorcycle or ATV or replacing a factory subwoofer amp. What is the best tiny amp tested so far?
I hooked one of these up to a 150W RMS Kicker 6.5 sub/passive radiator box and powered it with a 240W solar power station. This single shot amp works perfectly with the 12V output and a $7 fused cigarette plug to hook up power, remote, and ground. One JBL Xtreme and a couple of patch cables later, I have a portable music player that can hit 30 Hz. The solar panels charge the power station faster than the amp can discharge it. The most I would do with this is hook it up to a factory radio that didn't already have a sub, but it's definitely NOT a Reference 500!
I’m very impressed by this mini amp D. This amp can fit in your back pocket and able to power all your subs. I agree on the incorrect info the manufacturer provided tho, but much respect to Soundstream from Oklahoma 👊🏽💯
Thanks for the review. Given the lower temp rating on the caps and what I would expect would be a pretty high internal case temperature, I would expect the caps to be a point of failure over the longer term. Of course we live in a throw away society anymore!

the old rule of thumb was generally double the max operating amperage for fuse. Fuses don't protect equipment, they keep the vehicle from catching fire.

the bypass on the filter makes this interesting to me. could be nice doing one per side up front if the switching frequency is fast enough for full range
Would you be able to do a video to test the difference in an amplifier's ability to deliver its rated power at 14.5 volts from a car battery versus 12.1 volts from an ATX power supply? I can't find information about this anywhere. Would be interesting to see how it will affect the power and efficiency.
Thanks for suggesting that. I made this exact same suggestion months ago to Big D. Ya, I'd like him to do some tests, even if testing is not posted in a video, just to see what power output differences there are with various types of amps and the power supplies they have. It's really the power supply design that sets the stage for the output power IMO. I would guess that most low end car amps have no regulation, there for, max power is proportional to input voltage. A good amp will have regulation to compensate for dips in input voltage. In other words, try to keep the supply rails fairly constant from say, 11 volts to 15 volts.
@@curtchase3730 Thanks for your reply. I have a fancy atx psu and I am using it to power a rockville db13 which has an 80A fuse and I am trying to figure out why more people don't do this. As far as I can tell there are no drawbacks other than a bit of DIY, unless it's just not as loud as it would be at 14.5 volts. I hope more people reply so this channel might consider this experiment.
Thanks for share. I would like to see these little amps in full range frequencies. I dont know why they still make a mono amp with the low frequency cut off built in.
That amp test surprised me on that 1 ohm run. Im thinking that didn't rate it right either Big D. I ran a soundstream amp back in the day and it did really well for me.
Here's the thing: I think there's a GREAT potential market for upgrading manufacturer stock amps. If a company were to create clean sounding small form factor amps that beat the stock units in the stupidly random places where they put them at reasonable prices? Give us that. More on topic... soundstream used to be amazing.
Man I wish you was allowed to do the bass drop from the big timers I stay fly. Back in the day I had a pair of 12-inch audio bonds that would knock my rear view mirror off with that.
@@wal yeah I agree they really should make a marine version. I was speaking about size and power to application use I could see something like this being used for. They really missed the mark on this one it could of been a popular item if advertised and made towards that the correct application. Instead of a poorly rated embarrassment that really highlights poor branding and market understanding.
Based on this I ordered the 4-channel version to try in my minitruck... no sub, just two tweeters and two long-throw 4" mid/low. Not looking for huge power but I will report if it do bump.
I remember when Soundstream was awesome, a loooooonnngggg time ago. Why couldn’t they just rate it as 85 or 90 watts @ 4 ohms? Pretty bad when brand legitimacy is only held back by their honesty
Do you ever test longevity of these amps? Or real world testing? How long can they perform at high levels? What does it take for them to fail? It's nice when an amp puts out its rated power but I want to know how long they can deliver before failure
I actually used the soundstream st4 amp on my motorcycle....was great amp....claimed to be 1000w be we know wasnt true....but it did run 4 polk audio db401 and 4 tweeters super nice....great amp....very compact
That's a sweet Haro in the background, but I don't recognize the inscription on the down tube. I see that it's a Master, but what does the red decal say? God, I wanted a Haro so bad as a kid, but that would have been the equivalent of buying a used Honda Civic for an 11-year old. One of these days I'm going to get a few old freestyle bikes off Ebay just to hang in the garage. A GT Pro Freestyle Tour and maybe a Skyway Street Styler would look nice, too.
The Master is a 2020 24” re-release. Haro has been doing this since 2015 and have had some really cool models. The vintage 80’s bikes are insanely expensive
Big D please explain why manufacturing has gone to Class D amps for highs and mids. I understand the technical issues of efficiency with the AB amps but what has changed the past few years that has changed to allow Class D amps to become more SQ. I could be wrong but it looks like only companies like JL and Kenwood and Alpine have high end class D amps for SQ. But why?
They mostly got much quicker at switching. One of the big problems with old class D amps was a lag that would add distortion. Now they’re able to run at a higher internal frequency and greatly reduce that distortion.
There was a time when you could trust Soundstream specs and expect more. Since purchased by Epsilon, nothing of this brand has been up to par. You couldn't trust a Soundstream amplifier to do rated power if struck by lightning. And they still don't disappoint. The only way Soundstream and PPI will ever be great again is if the two brands get bought out by another company and saved. If they made these to do at least rated, it might be worth something. I wouldn't mind a 250 watt palm sized amp for $100, there's a market for that.
Whats up with the roadster? I have not seen any testing with it lately. Did you get in a bind and have to sell it? Bring it back if not. Keep up the good work BigD!
What's crazy is back in the day soundstream was considered a "top of the line" company that could only be purchased from catalogs and high-end audio stores.
Back in my day Sound Stream made some amazing amps. Sad to see the name reduced to blister pack amps with misleading specs. Even if they got the specs right, it's pretty cool little amp. If you wanted something so easy to conseal from your wife to add some bump in the truck. I've got an SUV that I'd like to add a sub to to fill out the bottom end. Hide this unit behind a panel and toss a 10 incher in the back that you can toss into your garage if you need the extra room.
not full bridge, just a single irs 2092. you would need two 2092's to get full bridge. complementary refers to BJT's not diodes. Complementary pair of bjts would be like the mj15003/mj15004, npn/pnp pair. diodes are just diodes no polarity to infer complementary
Wait , wait.. Hold the watts! Where are the output transistors? I have scanned the image several times at 6:16 and don't even see vias for under-mount transistors. hmm? 3205's check, rectifiers check, output inductor check, output transistors MIA. No wonder it didn't make rated power, the engineers missed the outputs.
Damn damn damn that is just weak. I will maybe never buy another soundstream product after that false advertising failure. You do good work my guy, saving us from getting ripped off
Soundstream rated the Stealth at 3%THD. Is there a way to run the test at 3% distortion? I know it seems like a odd request but I would like to run this amp w/ Kicker CompRT 6.75 sub on motorcycle. This amp seems like it would be the best deal for the money. Otherwise I'll grab 1 of the PX series. I have PXIBT100.2 with the PSM32 already
So who makes quality speakers these days? I’m tempted to get some stuff from parts express or Madisound when I see the quality on other aspects of car stereo and how they have seriously dropped in the last 30 years.

Audio output mosfet are in the bottom side? Interesting to know what they used in this monster tiny pcb
I’ll open and find out. Big Dummy forgot I needed to add this section 🤦♂️
No problem, don't spend time to unscrew again!!! I'll search on web for photos. Great stuff and amazing channel 👍👍👍
Thanks for share. I would like to see these little amps in full range frequencies. I dont know why they still make a mono amp with the low frequency cut off built in.
Works great on my Harley running 6 / 6x9’s super loud
OMG, so hook it up to really inefficient speakers, Kickers! Love it....maybe 86 decibels per 1 watt at 1 meter.
BACK WHEN I WAS A KID A BOUGHT A SPARKOMATIC 100 W 2 CHANNEL .
Man I wish you was allowed to do the bass drop from the big timers I stay fly. Back in the day I had a pair of 12-inch audio bonds that would knock my rear view mirror off with that.
This would be a good product for golf cart or utv because of the size and 150 watts push couple 8” woofers decent etc.
But the amp is not sealed and the board does not appear to be conformal coated…
@@wal yeah I agree they really should make a marine version. I was speaking about size and power to application use I could see something like this being used for. They really missed the mark on this one it could of been a popular item if advertised and made towards that the correct application. Instead of a poorly rated embarrassment that really highlights poor branding and market understanding.
Irs2092 for little power power instead they can also use TPA chips
I’m still wondering when PPI’s new amps going to get a review???
I think I still have a pair of their flat piston 8" subs in storage. Now ain't that a blast from the past.
Based on this I ordered the 4-channel version to try in my minitruck... no sub, just two tweeters and two long-throw 4" mid/low.
Not looking for huge power but I will report if it do bump.
How did it turn out? Im looking to get one for my truck for the door speakers amd tweeters
Epsilon and Maxxsonics have taken some once great name brand products and turned them not so great.
Made them more generic for the masses
@@wal they've turned those legacy brands into flea market junk.
u could make a small actively cooled amp rack for 4 of those and have em run ur mids and highs, the rack would fit about anywhere
might aswell just use a decent 4 channels amp then.
These are tiny and actually impressive power for the size, but should be rated 75/125
I remember when Soundstream was awesome, a loooooonnngggg time ago. Why couldn’t they just rate it as 85 or 90 watts @ 4 ohms? Pretty bad when brand legitimacy is only held back by their honesty
Yea back in the 90's they had GOOD amps ..
Actually excellent by standards. They were top end.
Do you sell a t shirt that has "do it bump doe" on it?
I was hoping to use the 2 ch version to run my door components. What you think? They are 125w each
Do you ever test longevity of these amps? Or real world testing? How long can they perform at high levels? What does it take for them to fail? It's nice when an amp puts out its rated power but I want to know how long they can deliver before failure
Will give you 5 bux to turn the switch around on the dyno!
I actually used the soundstream st4 amp on my motorcycle....was great amp....claimed to be 1000w be we know wasnt true....but it did run 4 polk audio db401 and 4 tweeters super nice....great amp....very compact
Good deal 👌
Can we just admire the fact it says “kICK YOUR ASS” all caps on the back of the box?
I'm thinking about getting the 4 channel to run my tweets and mids. How hot did it get? I'm thinking about installing behind the dash.
Blessings brother 🙏
WOW .5 OHM STABLE 😯 AMAZING!!!
Are they strappable? If so what kind of power could 1 get out of 4 for a budget build?
🤣
Where is your review of the Soundstream TXP1.3500D? I watched it earlier today and now I cannot find it. Thanks

I wouldn't mind a 250 watt palm sized amp for $100, there's a market for that.
gettin an oldschool punch 40 for 50 bucks is the way to go👍😎
Whats up with the roadster? I have not seen any testing with it lately. Did you get in a bind and have to sell it? Bring it back if not.
Keep up the good work BigD!
What's crazy is back in the day soundstream was considered a "top of the line" company that could only be purchased from catalogs and high-end audio stores.
Exactly
Would love to see a comparison dyno of the new small motorcycle atv waterresistant 4 ch amplifiers
Ratings suck but still cool to see something that small move anything
Back in my day Sound Stream made some amazing amps. Sad to see the name reduced to blister pack amps with misleading specs. Even if they got the specs right, it's pretty cool little amp. If you wanted something so easy to conseal from your wife to add some bump in the truck. I've got an SUV that I'd like to add a sub to to fill out the bottom end. Hide this unit behind a panel and toss a 10 incher in the back that you can toss into your garage if you need the extra room.
Yes SS was high end for sure!
not full bridge, just a single irs 2092. you would need two 2092's to get full bridge. complementary refers to BJT's not diodes.
Under the board I think. Meant to open it up again and look for them
I would like to see a shark 3500 on the dyno if you can find one. I’ve only seen one several years ago. Curious if it would do rated.
I feel like it being able to power the 4 kickers is more of a testament to kicker quality and not the capability of the amp itself.
That box is super efficient
My brother Dick Riculous knew the score.... Straight up lyin' to ya!!!!!
Correction the topology of the amplifier is only halfbridge, only 1 irs2092s driver,, youneed two of those to create fullbridge topology
I know I've asked before but what is your beginning theme song?
Have you tested this Boss (PF2200) Phantom MODEL 2200W High Output 4 Channel Full Range, Class A/B Amplifier?
Damn damn damn that is just weak. I will maybe never buy another soundstream product after that false advertising failure. You do good work my guy, saving us from getting ripped off
A QUAD SHOT!!!! My local lady of the night only offers me a DOUBLE SHOT! I'm gonna have to question her regarding this.
What is the Name of the Test Beat for the 6.5 Inch sub?
Sense we're talking mini amps how about Hifonics 500.1 or the A500.2?
💁♂️
Motorcycle? Those kickers where like- you send a baby to fight me!
Doesn't the KICKER Quad box have two terminal cups at 2 ohm each? And that amp isn't 1 ohm stable..... ? Soooo.....???
I was wondering if you did a phoenix gold qx500.1d dyno??? Bigd
Can anyone tell me the name of the bass track he started with at7:02 I’ve heard that as a teenager and never heard it since
DJ Magic Mike, feel the bass
Soundstream rated the Stealth at 3%THD. Is there a way to run the test at 3% distortion? I know it seems like a odd request but I would like to run this amp w/ Kicker CompRT 6.75 sub on motorcycle. This amp seems like it would be the best deal for the money. Otherwise I'll grab 1 of the PX series. I have PXIBT100.2 with the PSM32 already
The clipping test is at more than 3% and it still doesn’t get anywhere near rated power
@@wal would this amp and a Kicker CompRT 6.75 (4 ohm)be a good pair?
So who makes quality speakers these days? I’m tempted to get some stuff from parts express or Madisound when I see the quality on other aspects of car stereo and how they have seriously dropped in the last 30 years.
7:04 please can someone send me name of this song its awesome i love your videos :)
