Man, you have to really appreciate the level of editing on that Slayer Amp. As someone who also has a RUclips channel on Car Audio DIYs I appreciate the time you took to make this video. Editing takes a while man.
Gotta agree with that Orion being the best, damn those numbers are insane! Loving what JP is offering too, got some really cool features in his designs.
We had a local shop that used to wire those old Rockford amps at 2 ohm's mono all day long. The sales rep told them it was fine go ahead and we'll still warranty them too. The 90's were great for car audio! 🤣👍
I was an installer from 1994 to 2008. My first sound car was my 1988 Pontiac Bonneville with Alpine and Rockford all the way to my current 2004 Mercury Marauder with JL Audio and Eclipse. I remember the rule was usually "good amps are about $3 per watt". Almost every SPL car I built we tried to stay at 1000 watts and used cheater amps for the edge. These are INSANE!
The old punch power amps are the best I've ever owned personally, I bought a Chevy celebrity wagon in highschool for $500 and over the years put about $5,000 of stereo equipment in the that sled. I had multiple punch power amps, 2 10 inch subs and 2 12 inch subs and blew the back hatch window out bumping The Beatles Yellow Submarine 🤣 was amazing
Great vid, thank you! Takes me back to HS in the mid-late 90’s… I had one of those punch 200’s that ran bridged into 2 ohms for a while and never skipped a beat. Had a buddy that saved forever to buy an Orion 2100 HCCA and that thing was just stupid. New to the channel but I’ll be sticking around, great to see we weren’t always making bad choices back then. 😂
I have been bump in the slayer 3k since 3 days after your test. It convinced me to buy one and I run it about an hour and a half a day on a American bass XFL10 to see which would die first and still going strong. Happy with the purchase. Everyone is shocked its only 1 10.
I had a couple friends swear by the Rockford Punch amps back in the mid 90's. They would be so hot at times you literally couldn't touch them. They would almost never shut down either. Extremely impressive amps. The 90's had some of the best amps (products for that matter) and extremely high prices to boot.
I had several 90s models and even in high school I thought to myself this can't be good I can't even touch the thing it's so hot. Plus sitting in HS parking lot all day in Texas. No idea how that thing survived. Two jl w 3 12s now 22 years ago
For me, your TDA7498E 160+160 watt Chinese mini amp video totally blew my mind. Even though it didn't do rated (which was to be expected) I can't believe how much power those cheap little boards can produce, astonishing! They are now my goto amp for battery powered sound systems, thank you Williston Audio Labs for making these videos and doing the amp dyno tests. You are a huge asset to the audio community, keep on being awesome :)
Good memories thanks for the stroll back in time. I am surprised the test you did on the MTX Thunder 2300 didn't make the list. Anyway again great video .
I run my Rockford PWR415 ventilated with the MTX2300, and it Rock's. With the same Amp i fired 6 10" DEI PRO. This amp is a killer. Greetings from Greece
And a big shoutout to the Orion XTR 2500.1 (rated 2500W @1 ohm @ 12.6v) that you did a .8 ohm burst test on that produced 7577W! That amp at the time was $375 to $400. They are strappable, so I presently own 2 of them and they became scarce for a bit of time last year, but are back on the market. It was that video that impressed me the most of them all and that is why I bought 2 in the matter of 6-8 months! You can still find them for $400 in some deep dark places on the net! LOL
I'm probably alone on this but one of the most memorable amp tests I've seen on your channel was the Kenwood KAC-M3004. Considering its size and simplicity, it far exceeded what I thought was possible within its footprint. For us Hybrid vehicle drivers, it could easily power an entire system (components & sub) without breaking the bank or pulling too much current. Awesome video!
Those Fosgate DSM amps never seem to disappoint either, I've still got a Fosgate 4080 DSM I'd love to see numbers on, it's no Orion but it's still a beast.
The Orion 3k was easily the most shocking amp on this lineup. It was actually the cheapest korean amp you tested at the time. It survived the half ohm test and went on to do 10,000 WATTS!! more than rated!!! And it was $250 less than the Sundown at the time! Nothing on this list compares to how crazy that was to see
From my point of view what should be is: "Rated power should be lower about 10% then actual power"! That way the consumers wouldn't be dissapointed or feel they cheated.
I searched amp test guy on RUclips and you come up and your the guy I was looking for. Just like everyone here we appreciate your experience and knowledge of the technical side of the bass world
I got the JP8 and a strappable slave amp with O.5 ohm capabilities with so many features; too many to list. I run my JP8 at 1 ohm on a Skar 10” SVR DVC2 and unbelievable outputs drawing much less voltage than my Skar RP800 I swapped it out for. Down4Sound and their JP lineup is the future!#🔊❤️@Down4Sound@Williston Audio Labs@Vincent Russo
I had a pair of RF 100iX DSMs in my S10. One ran all the inside speakers at 1.3ohm a side and the sub amp was running an 8W6 at 3 ohm mono. NEVER had an issue. People always asked what kind of 10's or 12's I had then I'd show them a single 8 working it's butt off. lol...later I had ripped the surround and it still had people asking. Those amps were NO joke. I'd run them again.
The Orion 3ks were my favorite and your the reason I baught a pair of them thank you for introducing me to the most amazing amps I've ever owned to date!!!
Always wanted one of them, bit I'm still happy with the awesome XTR 2500 amp I bought after Big D's test of it! Ran it for hours and hours at .8 ohms for the last year on my 55 minute to 90 minute commute back and forth to and from the every single day!!
Omg 😳 now I know what am I’m getting next. Orion! I bought the jp23 because of your video. I’m very happy with it. It was the right price too. But Forsure now my next amp will be the Orion. Thank you for what you do.
I bet the main guys at Orion pulled everyone together and had that talk…… That it really did matter, quality mattered, being truthful mattered, etc…. Look how those guys get to come to this comment section and feel that redemption for not selling out or lying to make sales. I was HiFonics/Lanzar/Autotek (Zed days) back in the day when Orion and RF were just at the cusp of being a little too high rent district for me. Always had the dream to eventually getting a HCCA of some sorts. So happy for them. What an amazing company!
May not be amazing (in a good way) but, IMO the most important amp dyno you have ever done was the Orion HCCA 2100. The results of that test...and the subsequent retests, we're like a huge reality check for the whole old school car audio community. While the amp didn't make the ridiculously insane power we had long believed it could, the test did dispell a ton of urban myths and proved Orion engineers weren't playing games with the published numbers in the owners manual. Hard to overvalue the truth, even if it does bruise some egos. 👍
Back around 1998, Eclipse had a huge 2-channel amp that I would love to see you test! I think it was the 34230. With a relatively stock electric system in my 96 Rodeo, this amp was absolutely slamming 6 10" aluminum Eclipse competition subs in individually sealed boxes.
Ugh dreams right there, eclipse is by far my favorite manufacturer. You can still get dvd decks in Japan made by them. Wish they still sold stuff here used to have a titanium 10 back in 05 favorite sub I’ve ever owned
Man those damn Fosgate amps were awesome back in the 90's. I had several of the two channel punch amps that I ran bridged into 2 ohms and they never shut down. I'm currently using a Fosgate Power T500-1bdCP on my two Infinity Perfect 12's and it puts out some sweet, accurate lows.
I have a handful of the Orion Cobalts. I do high capacity capacitors in line with the speaker wire. With zero gauge the sound is out of this world. There are a few other proprietary tricks
The Bully amp was the most surprising, very small foot print, the price range and the power ratings, wow. Good editing. Also, there is Slayer MD speakers as well, hope you test it out one time.
For a “Shocking” video, I was ready to see the Pyramid amp. If I remember, it was rated 150 x 2 and did what, 50 x 2, if that. And you took the back off and we were all “Shocked” and laughed.
Back in the day I bought one of the very first JL Audio Class D monoblocks, a 500x1. Certified bench was 926 and it peaked at 1728. Very clean sounding amp too... wish I still had it.
You could always run a RF amp all the way down to a 1/2 ohm back in the early-mid 90s. I beat the hell out of them and you could cook breakfast on them and they just kept going like a boss!
I bought the Audio Pipe 15001D because you dynoed it at 2810@.05 ohm for $150 bucks back in the day for my secondary amp just incase my Earthquake PHD2 blew it still works to this day not bad for a $150 dollar 1500 watt amplifier.
Man, I appreciate your videos. I have not purchased an amp without checking to see if you've done a dyno test on it or not, if you have then I just pass and wait. Thanks for the work and time you put into these vids. :)
Back in 2002 I had two of the Rockford Fosgate 200.1, both wired to 1ohm giving 1200+ out of each one. They ran like that for two years until I sold them for $800 to buy an Acura Integra.
Just when I had forgotten about Wudi... Obviously that Orion amp was the biggest shocker. Not sure about the longevity of them running low ohms like that, but super nice to have that available headroom for a daily driver that occasionally does SPL competition.
I just ordered the D4S JP8 two pack for my toaster and the D’Amore E750.1 for my Camry hybrid, thanks to this channel. Now I’m trying to decide between the 10” and 12” Kicker L7Ts 🤣
Was disappointed at first that the Wudi didn't make the list, but glad to see it appear at the end of the video. Pretty sure you are the reason they quickly ended up selling out of all the stock they had left.
Now I know on some level who cares but if anybody would care maybe people here would. In 1991 I had two competition kicker 15‘s hooked up to a punch 150 the series before this punch app. And Orion 225 hooked up to sound stream reference mids and tweeters. Amazing. Thanks for what you do this takes me back.
I knew immediately the the Orion 3k would be on here. As it was the most impressive amp dyno test I had ever seen. Based on your original dyno of this amp I actually purchased it and replaced a DD audio M5. Which costs roughly 3 times as much new retail. The DD dyno at 1 ohm dynamic at 9998 according to I believe facekicker. I dropped the Orion to 3k to .5 ohm in my vehicle. I had rise to 1.5 and it didn’t even touch the M5 at 1 ohm rising to over 2. I lost over 2db. That’s a lot. And I was maintaining over 14 volts on both amps. 240ah lithium. 400 amp alt. Charging at 15.4. In the real world it did not compare to what the dyno says. I actually sold it and bought a 2nd M5 used for $1200. The Orion looked way better on the dyno. Didn’t compare in the real world. I owned it for 3 days. Of course based on your dyno test they were practically unavailable overnight and I sold it used on eBay in hours for $1000. So I made $300. Just saying. Dyno doesn’t always translate to real life reactive loads. But I certainly had fun with the whole thing. As always. Great video big D.
I thought that Soundstream Tarantula Xtreme TXP1.6000D you did a while back was pretty surprising. Especially for the price. I think I paid $150 for one right after that video. Looks friggen neat as well.
9 year is why you're the man everyone I no goes to see your dino and I won't buy a amp in less I watch your video and hear your opinion about it that why your big d does it bump 🎵🎶💯👍👌✌️🥂
Saludos al gran amigo Big D desde Colombia! 😎 Ningún canal pone a prueba los amplificadores que éste 👌🏻 Gracias por los "Where's the beef and You Big Dummy" 😂
Hi mate I love your videos, So keep up the good work! I'd love to know your thoughts on the SQ difference between D class and old AB amps. I don't know if it's just nostalgia, but I feel like the old AB power amps I had back in the day sounded a lot better than the new D class amps these days.
Just installed some MTX amps in my stepson's escape. The Thunder 500.1 is rated at 500w RMS but according to the DD1+, I was getting 40.1v RMS which would be 800w RMS @ 2ohms. I was shocked but I'd love to have those numbers verified on the AMP Dyno...
BRO!!!! This is crazy. I was at pawn shop today and seen that Harmony Audio HA-1500.1, something about is made me put it on layaway. I will pay $129 plus tax for It. That's INSANE for a 2k+ certified amp!!!!!
My first Sub was an old school Rockford Fosgate 8" that I got second hand. My mate had it in his Citroen 2CV but it keep blowing his Vinyl soft top off 😂
The Orion is my favorite. 13k from a "3,000" watt amp was unreal lol.
I have a Crunch 90k that'll do that no problem. Lol
It's got a 30 amp fuse and everything.
It is truly incredible. Even though it’s a burst test, still crazy whack funky
@@jeffneedstogivejakeaturnon1083 30A fuse????🤔🤔
WOW!!! That is just insanity!

For a “Shocking” video, I was ready to see the Pyramid amp. If I remember, it was rated 150 x 2 and did what, 50 x 2, if that. And you took the back off and we were all “Shocked” and laughed.
i bought the orion after watching your video ,, and looking at the jp for another build. thank you .. what ya do its awsome
Back in the day I bought one of the very first JL Audio Class D monoblocks, a 500x1. Certified bench was 926 and it peaked at 1728. Very clean sounding amp too... wish I still had it.
Awesome 👏

HOLY SMOKE- That boy ain't no joke
You could always run a RF amp all the way down to a 1/2 ohm back in the early-mid 90s. I beat the hell out of them and you could cook breakfast on them and they just kept going like a boss!
Always the go to spot for audio info!
I had a punch 45 back in the day, awesome amp.
I just ordered the D4S JP8 two pack for my toaster and the D’Amore E750.1 for my Camry hybrid, thanks to this channel.
Now I’m trying to decide between the 10” and 12” Kicker L7Ts 🤣
10s if you want punchier/crisper sound, 12s if you want more boomy sound & vibration happening.
Deff that bully Halloween intro was so good. One of your most memorable ones for me!
Was disappointed at first that the Wudi didn't make the list, but glad to see it appear at the end of the video. Pretty sure you are the reason they quickly ended up selling out of all the stock they had left.
for me it was the nad 2200 you tested years ago that suprised me the most, since the video i got two of them in bridge mono running in my home audio
Orion hcca makes the best amps. Truly unleashed power. Reasonably priced too.
I really thought you would do that old school Mtx amp you did a while back that thing pumped out the watts
Awesome 👏
Always amazing content. Much respect BIG D!
Still enjoy these trips to memory lane! THX a lot pal!
God i love that orion… what an absolute unit of an amp.
The Black Diamomd and the Audio Control were my favorites. You helped me to buy right. But also loved the Orion test. Took me back to 1993 :-)
I thought that Soundstream Tarantula Xtreme TXP1.6000D you did a while back was pretty surprising.
Thanks brother 😬
Loved the Slayer clip! Perhaps an idea for the next July 4 -- do a montage of explosions on the bench? I remember there were a few of them. 💥👍
I ran a punch 200 DSM on 2 JLAudio 10w6's (1.5ohms) with no issues. I have no idea how much power that thing was pushing but it was slamming.
Saludos al gran amigo Big D desde Colombia! 😎 Ningún canal pone a prueba los amplificadores que éste 👌🏻 Gracias por los "Where's the beef and You Big Dummy" 😂
What amp has put out the most watts at 1 ohm that you have had in the bench
Hi mate I love your videos, So keep up the good work! I'd love to know your thoughts on the SQ difference between D class and old AB amps. I don't know if it's just nostalgia, but I feel like the old AB power amps I had back in the day sounded a lot better than the new D class amps these days.
Man that black Orion XTR amp was my favorite. Crazy power!
I actually just acquired the 3000.2 hcca.. still deciding what to put to it.. like a little kid in an amusement park❤️
I think the ORION should be at #1😮
Just installed some MTX amps in my stepson's escape. The Thunder 500.1 is rated at 500w RMS but according to the DD1+, I was getting 40.1v RMS which would be 800w RMS @ 2ohms. I was shocked but I'd love to have those numbers verified on the AMP Dyno...
The first gen mtx D amps were beasts, way underrated. I installed tons of them. The later versions got weaker with each model change.
That Halloween trailer! Like button smashed!
My mate had it in his Citroen 2CV but it keep blowing his Vinyl soft top off 😂
The orion is my favorite too, but I thought you would've done the orion 2500dz too. That was a great amp and I still have mine!
Talking about Favorites! these are my Fav Video you make!!!!!!
Dam big D you been around so long you gots a "greatest hits" record going 😆 good choices for the list here thanks for doin what you do
Those Orion amps were crazy. I have the 1500.1Dz and it's amazing. Dunno why they don't make them any longer because they were badass 😎
