ASMR for the Arrakis Fremen | A Dune Role-play

- You and numerous other selected fremen gather in a sietch to participate in a unique experiment that is being broadcast to you from a distant planet by an entity known as Professor Clemmons of Arkham Sanitarium.
In case you are not familiar, this role-play is primarily based on the 1965 novel "Dune" by Frank Herbert (the Professor Clemmons character draws from the works of H. P. Lovecraft). I attempted to read Dune when I was a young teen back in the 80's, but I think it was over my head at the time or I couldn't get into it. At the time of this video (~45 years old), for whatever reason I had a strange desire to read it fully, and I'm glad I did, as I was able to wrap my head around it and enjoy the read. I would advise against watching the 80's movie by David Lynch. Nothing against Lynch as I'm a fan of his works, but the movie does not do the book a lot of justice in many aspects. Here's to hoping that Denis Villeneuve's upcoming films (supposedly a "Star Wars for adults" trilogy) will be a good tribute to the book and its fans.

What is ASMR?
ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. It's a non-scientific word that an everyday person came up with to describe the feeling characterized as a pleasurable tingling sensation felt in the head, scalp, back and other regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli, such as crinkling bags, hand movements, whispering, personal attention or watching someone perform a task. It's like goosebumps but much more pleasant and without the uncomfortable chills.
ASMR videos are meant to intentionally induce this sensation in the viewer, often referred to as "tingles", but the videos also serve to provide a relaxing, calming and soothing experience for the viewer. Many people who do not experience ASMR still enjoy the videos for their calming and sleepy effect.

Fun fact: Iron Maiden wanted to make a song about Dune called Dune (iirc) but was threatened with copyright lawsuits. We'd end up getting To Tame a Land as a spiritual substitute in its place, which heavily references Dune.

This is great! I've been on a bit of Dune kick recently. The book itself is a beast. While the Lynch version may fall short of capturing the full scope of the novel, it's a great starting point stylistically. I have a special place in my heart for the film. Once again, awesome ASMR role-play!

As it was written
I saw the movie first and I still love it, but I didn't understand it until I read Dune. I absolutely love those novels. Did you read the other books yet? If not, at least read through God-Emperor of Dune, as that finishes the story of Paul's immediate family. The last two set up for a final novel, but Frank Herbert died before he could write it.
DO NOT read the Brian Herbert / KJA books unless you really REALLY desperately need more stories set in the Dune universe, because they're awful.
vortmax1981 omg this. His son damn near ruined the series. Dude was money hungry and took unfinished stuff but I would have rather had the cliff notes. They butchered it. Talent clearly isn't genetic.
Ehh having read every scrap of writing either Frank Herbert or his son made, I can say his sons series isnt awful. Its just not dune. Its kinda like the Clone Wars. By itself, maybe not terrible, but in comparison, it so misses the mark in what made its predecessor fucking amazing.
Kyle Vidauri I got through a book and a half of the Sons Garbage. And could not finish it and I finished the Aeneid(which is dry AF at times) because it's the origin point of House Atreides/where Herbert got the idea in part. Shit by his son was horrid.

Dune is an awesome book and the movie was great. Granted the series had better costume ideas to a point ,giving the bgs hair but the guild....uh...no. But I prefer the movie anyway over the series.
Plus in speaking with ASMR, I always got it during the box scene, the way she spoke

My dads favorite movie was dune and I always hated it because I was too young to understand it but this is cool as fuck.
