    Very helpful man! The local lock and key store wants $180 to order an entire new key phob...

    Thanks for the video. Made it simple to replace the batteries on my 11 year old FOBS, and now they both work like brand new. I thought I was going to have to replace them. Dealer wanted $132 each for FOBs, plus $150 to program how ever many I brought in. Instead, two CR2032 batteries later...which I already had...life is good. If you have older FOBs, replace the batteries and you'll get much better distance too for lock/unlock/remote start.

    Really appreciate you doing this video for users. It's great that Chev made it possible to actually do this easily. I was thinking it was going to be much harder because some manufacturers make it difficult for proprietary reasons. Thank you very much.

    thanks very much for posting this video. I cannot see a notch on my key fob. I would get frustrated in the past and take it to the store to have them do it, now there are no stores left that do it near me (radio shack, batteries plus are gone). So I struggled tonight but what worked is I used the standard flat head screw driver to slightly move the fob apart (by gently making multiple passes around the fob) but it wouldn't completely take it off. So what worked is I used very small flat head screw driver to finish prying off the key fob housing -- in the area you pointed to in the video (but there is no visible difference in the notch area/being extra deep.

    While you got this baby apart, I would suggest considering cleaning the keypad and circuit board traces that the keyboard contacts - especially if you have to press one or any of the buttons hard. Using some light rubbing alcohol and Qtip (or reasonable facsimile thereof) LIGHTLY wipe off the keypad circular contacts, and the meshed traces on the circuit board. DO NOT scrub any of these contact points as you will likely make matters worse if you do. Just wipe gently and dry. Also, these batteries are hazmats and you should dispose of them accordingly. Good luck, k1iff

    Thank you very much. By removing a good working battery (it's 3 years old), will it deactivate the system? Will I have to reprogram the Remote Key system again when i put in a new battery? Or everything will work as it did before?

      We have tried replacing in a number of different configurations (just battery, old board and old battery in new housing, old board new battery new housing) and all worked as it should.

    One more thing, before putting it back together clean the board with some cleaner, I used 409 because I was still getting a slow/bad connection, after doing that the response on the fob was much quicker.

    If I buy a new fob, do i have to reprogram?

    • @All4HimRacingVideos
      @All4HimRacingVideos  4 года назад

      Answer is, it depends. I have seen the button membrane wear out and simply bought a new housing, but put the original circuit board into the new housing and new buttons. But if the board is not functioning, then yes, it would need to be reprogrammed.

    hey i replaced the battery on mine, for a chevy cobalt, and now its not working at all. is there a special way to reprogram it?
    I've researched it and tried every way i could find but nothing works.. (just tryin to avoid goin to the dealer ya kno)

    • @All4HimRacingVideos
      @All4HimRacingVideos  6 лет назад +1

      I had something similar happen. To fix I purchased an aftermarket housing with buttons, swapped out the "new" circuit board with the old one, and put together. Fixed issue. But I was having issues with buttons not making good connection. Was a cheaper option but based on your issue, not sure if it will fix it or not.

    • @All4HimRacingVideos

      There are other great vids on youtube that show how to reprogram, you may want to check them out, that is an area I am not much help.

    • @All4HimRacingVideos
      @All4HimRacingVideos  7 лет назад

      As long as you are using the same circuit board, you should only have to change the battery. Just be careful to not damage the board.

    Thank you.. I bought a new Key Fob with a new battery and after programming the Key Fob to my car, I keep getting this message for over two weeks now: KEY FOB BATT LOW. Does anyone know how I'm able to get rid of this message? I have a new Key Fob and have bought two new batteries and no luck.

    • @All4HimRacingVideos
      @All4HimRacingVideos  6 лет назад +1

      Very interesting issue. I assume that the "KEY FOB BATT LOW" is flashing on your cars dash, correct? Perhaps try taking your car to local auto parts store or friend with a code scanner and see if there is a warning code that needs cleared. My thought is you fixed the problem, but your car just doesn't know it yet.

    • @Darwinq84
      @Darwinq84 6 лет назад

      Oh okay, I bought the new key fob from Auto Zone and paid $95 for it. I may take it to a dealership, but I was hoping not to spend hundreds of dollars on a new key fob.

    What would happen if the thing that holds the battery breaks off

    • @All4HimRacingVideos
      @All4HimRacingVideos  3 года назад

      Unfortunately that piece is needed to hold the battery tight and ensure a good connection. Best solution is to purchase a new key fob. A potential temporary solution may be the use of a couple small zip ties, assuming the 2 halves can still lock together.
