Just fixed mine took me 2 months to diagnose and almost died on a 3 hrs trip yesterday before my mechanic spotted the issue. it was the Danm control arms and front driver wheel sensor. After installation lights went out didn’t even read code. Please do not ever ignore this traction light and abs light you can die. Especially on this makes of car.

Just did some digging, GM put out Special Coverage 15356 for the power steering sensor. However, since it is a special coverage and not a recall, the only way to see if it applies to your vehicle is by registering online. My car never had any symptoms until now and the coverage expired in 2021. I submitted a complaint to the NHTSA to make this into a recall so that people aren't paying out of pocket for something GM knows is faulty. If you have the same issue, please submit a complaint to the NHTSA. A quick google search will reveal the Special Coverage Instructions GM sent to all the dealerships 5 years ago.
Would love to file a complaint. Had issues with the 2010 Malibu in March 2021. They told me that it wasn't on recall. Didn't know if filing a complaint would matter after the fact.

Have it scanned at a parts store. An intermittent fault should show up as a memory or stored code. Could point you in the direction of the bad sensor. Thanks for watching!
I had it scanned at auto zone for my check engine light being on. Which they code pulled up my purge valve & a few other codes. They said the only one stood out was the Purge valve. Is there a better auto place you can maybe suggest that doesn't charge a lot to check for the code? You're welcome. It was my pleasure to watch such an informative video.

Did get stuck n my yard and tried getting out drive for a week and than starting going n safe mode shut car off. Now traction control service esc lights on dash but making noise under hood like motor kicking n the extra wheel but just gargle noise been sitting for a year or so haven’t had money to get towed let me know what u think can send u video thanks

Hi so I have a 2012 Chevy Malibu. Runs pretty good, only issue I have is that my traction light comes on after using the car for a while. And it says service esc. When I turn the car back on next time I use it, the lights gone. I’ve tried using the code reader before but when I start my car the lights never on. So there are no codes to read. Most likely no. Pins worn on the connector or the wiring cracked & brittle. Bulb grease on the connector helps after you clean it up. Also clips can break off & not make a connection.
Somewhere in your car is hidden a lucky horseshoe. I recommend you keep an eye on your front wheel hubs (bearings), your exhaust camshaft position actualtor solenoid (on your engine), and your throttle body (throttle body valve position sensor). Common problems on these models up to now.
I have one question, when the original wheel speed sensor is out, will it also cause a malfunction to cruise control??? my malibu will automatically disengage cruise control after 10 secs. Nice video by the way, appreciate all the detail!
I see this is an old comment but yes the cruise control system relies on wheel speed sensors so if one of them is out you wont be able to use cruise. Hope this helps.
my car shut off and did those dash codes, and then i got a jump and got home. then the car was dead when shut off. now the dashboard just goes completely nuts and powers off the car completely and wont start at all. i got a code check at auto zone before i went home and kept it running and it said abs. my problem is i cant get it to start to get it fixed and wondering if the ebcm is tthe problem. i think what happens is it gives you some power until it completely shuts down

When you had the issue was your car losing power at all or shutting off when you came to a slow? I'm having the issue now and they said I need a new traction control sensor but we can't find one... If fixing this sensor would fix the whole issue would be amazing.
Could a bad bearing/speed sensor cause those lights plus loss of power steering? But when you cycle the key a few times power steering will come back but continue to go in and out

Thanks. Great video, with helpful tips and a quick diagnosis. Out of curiosity, what were the torque values on the main bearing nut, and on the two caliper mounting bracket bolts which attached that bracket to the steering knuckle. On some GM models, those torque values are very high. Thanks again.

Yes, I removed the three bolts. Going to have to pay a mechanic, but I gave it a shot thanks to your video. And where on earth did you find a 35mm socket? All the stores here had 32 then 36mm. Thankfully my 2010 LTZ was a 36mm.

Good job. I had the same dash lights come up on my '11 Buick Regal back in 2016. Diagnostic code was C0035. Replaced LF wheel hub (bearing) with the built-in speed sensor wire. I'm expecting to do the same with my RF wheel hub sometime soon. (I got a code C0040 once last May, so I won't be surprised.)
My mom is having these codes but a local shop said it's due to her left-rear brake caliper leaking. Could that be so? I'm thinking of doing the caliper and also the bearing

Well i changed my wheel bearing and my light is on but before i changed them my light was off i did the same thing the only problem i had was the wheel bearings we're so rusted on the car that it was stuck to the rotars and the circle spot that they go in because the previous owner never changed anything on the car i know this video is old but if you or anyone in the comments that had the same or similar experience happen to see this can you give me any other suggestions on what it could be the wheel bearings are new and before i changed them the light was off no check engine light is on nether
I have a sensor issue in my RF tire currently in my 2010 Malibu. The stearing wheel locked up on me and I had a hard time getting it to the side of the road. I let the sensor issue go for a few months because i didnt think to much on it. Now my car is down. Message said Service ESC. But with mine, it won't even start back up now.
@@JamesWilliams-ip1dp Had to have the steering column removed to replace several parts in it. Was a bit cheaper than replacing the entire steering column.
@@JamesWilliams-ip1dp Malibu's are apparently notorious in seizing up mid ride. Either due to ECS malfunctions, Tire sensors going bad, and issues with the steering column locking up due to seizing. If it's a tire sensor issue that is causing the lock up, they can simply replace the sensor (somewhat flat tire can also cause the lock up). If it's an ECS issue, they would have to replace the ECS and possibly some damaged wire harnesses. If it's a steering column issue, simply replacing the steering column assembly should work.
I have a 2007 Cobalt SS. I only get the service traction light on cold damp days. Does it after you’re still & locks on. No codes in body control module. Restart the car, all clears & may not do it again for another week or two. Never does it while moving. Hubs were replaced several months ago. Can it be a loose connector on the wheel sensor? Then if so, why does it throw a light only after you’ve stopped?
My brother has a 2009 Malibu. The codes showed RH bearing was causing the traction and ABS codes. Changed out the bearing twice. Same codes. When starting from stop or turning sharply the LH brake activates and the ABS and traction lights come on. The lights stay on for a few minutes and then go off?? Could this be a bad connection wire from the bearing to the computer? Help!
Good video unfortunately I can’t afford the scanner! I put the bearing in with the sensor facing down instead of up bolted everything and then realized the mistake then I put it in the correct way is there another way of clearing the codes? I have an obd reader can I use that?

my 09 Malibu has the same lights on and got a code for C0035 LF speed sensor. Replaced the hub but warning lights are still on, tried clearing the code but it just comes back on. Any idea what else it could be?
Sometimes the wiring harnesses on the car side will break internally. You can’t see it on a visual inspection. Usually happens where there’s a bend in the harness.
My ABS light isn’t on it service traction and service esc light is on. I have a Chevrolet Malibu 2011, so could that still mean that it has something to do with inside the tire ?
Nicole Gainey lift car up turn wheel by hand!!! If it grinds its wheel hub!!! If not change spark plugs and air filter!!! You can also regap current spark plugs!!!
Low air or battery usually triggers a different code. Somebody took my sensors out of the system for the tires. Takes a high-end scanner to bypass them. Some places, this could be illegal.

so today i was leaving work in my 2011 malibu ..tire spun a little in the mud and then everything went to crap..reduced engine power, service traction service esc and check engine light ..hopefully mine is a similar fix ...i was able to run 50 mph in a 65 to get it home..now time to take it to have the codes scanned..
i have a 2007 impala. the same light comes on and when at a stop and accelerate it goes very slow. It takes a while before it goes up to regular speed. Could this also be my problem or what that be something else? It doesn't always do it and it goes away but then will come back. I have gone to numerous mechanics and none have been able to fix it. One mechanic said it was the transmission and had me change the transmission, but obviously it wasn't it as I am still having the same problem. Any suggestions?
I changed the automatic transmission fluid. It’s a sealed unit. Had to use dextron 5 on mine. It got most of the problems out, but still can hesitate on reverse randomly. It went away after resetting the computers in the car. The mechanic didn’t clear the codes after being serviced.

I put my sctx3 handheld on it and it pulled up 4codea, cam sensor cylinder 1 misfire detected,cylinder 1 injector open and intake [A] camshaft position timing o er advanced [bank 1] I'm no mechanic so I have no idea what to do

I changed 1 cam sensor today(front of motor) changing the next 1 tomorrow and cleaned all the plugs today and car still running like crap not as bad but still bad .it has an issue with revving up to 3k rpms also and staying there ...now it says engine reduced power as well as service traction and service esc
Not on this particular style because the sensor and tone ring are sealed inside the hub assembly. Some other models would be affected by that as they have the tone ring and sensor external. Many have the tone ring mounted on the axle shaft.
I have the same problem except the ABS light is not on. Could still be a speed sensor? No loss of power but cruise does not work and brake lights stay on

I had the same exact issue on my 2009 Chevy Malibu hybrid. Ended up being the intake VVT solenoid. Super simple fix.

Could be your EBCM, I'm trying to track one down from a junkyard now myself.
Could also be a bad wiring mount for the ESC sensor.

What are some of the thing’s the car will do with with the same lights on?
Can this cause your radio to mess up as well? I just had both of these lights pop on just now but not even a week ago my radio started going from aux to cd and just messing up. I have a 2011 Chevy malibu. But i randomly just got these 2 lights to pop up on my dash could that be a bad wheel bearing?
Well i changed my wheel bearing and my light is on but before i changed them my light was off i did the same thing the only problem i had was the wheel bearings we're so rusted on the car that it was stuck to the rotars and the circle spot that they go in because the previous owner never changed anything on the car i know this video is old but if you or anyone in the comments that had the same or similar experience happen to see this can you give me any other suggestions on what it could be the wheel bearings are new and before i changed them the light was off no check engine light is

I have a sensor issue in my RF tire currently in my 2010 Malibu. The stearing wheel locked up on me and I had a hard time getting it to the side of the road. I let the sensor issue go for a few months because i didnt think to much on it. Now my car is down. Message said Service ESC. But with mine, it won't even start back up now.

@@JamesWilliams-ip1dp Had to have the steering column removed to replace several parts in it. Was a bit cheaper than replacing the entire steering column.
@@JamesWilliams-ip1dp Malibu's are apparently notorious in seizing up mid ride. Either due to ECS malfunctions, Tire sensors going bad, and issues with the steering column locking up due to seizing. If it's a tire sensor issue that is causing the lock up, they can simply replace the sensor (somewhat flat tire can also cause the lock up). If it's an ECS issue, they would have to replace the ECS and possibly some damaged wire harnesses. If it's a steering column issue, simply replacing the steering column assembly should work.

I have a 2007 Cobalt SS. I only get the service traction light on cold damp days. Does it after you’re still & locks on. No codes in body control module. Restart the car, all clears & may not do it again for another week or two. Never does it while moving. Hubs were replaced several months ago. Can it be a loose connector on the wheel sensor? Then if so, why does it throw a light only after you’ve stopped?
My brother has a 2009 Malibu. The codes showed RH bearing was causing the traction and ABS codes. Changed out the bearing twice. Same codes. When starting from stop or turning sharply the LH brake activates and the ABS and traction lights come on. The lights stay on for a few minutes and then go off?? Could this be a bad connection wire from the bearing to the computer? Help!
Sometimes the wires break inside their casing on the car side of the wiring harness. I’d bet that’s what’s going on with your brothers car.

I put the bearing in with the sensor facing down instead of up bolted everything and then realized the mistake then I put it in the correct way is there another way of clearing the codes? I have an obd reader can I use that?
Do you know the part number or the sensor name I tried searching up abs sensor but that didn't work
you probably have it figured out by now, but the abs cord and sensor is attached to the wheeel hub.

Would the s wheel speed sensor come in due to new tires being out in or the bearing and control arm be an issue too?
I have the same problem..but my steering wheel shakes...did yours do that as well?...if not i seen another vid about the steering wheel torque sensor....what do you say?

Is there any way you can find out which one fail or is bad without using the scanner that you have while you driving to detect the bad one.??

Yes even cheap scanners that scan ABS will tell you where the fault lies.
I have the same lights come on in my 2010 chevy malibu my wheel lock up and battery die did yours do that

It’s possible. Have it scanned and see what code it’s throwing
Having the same problem. My abs hasn’t came on. The service traction is giving me problems. It keeps going on & off and shaking my car.
What brand did you go with when you bought that wheel bearing . I have 08 hhr that does the same thing?

my 09 Malibu has the same lights on and got a code for C0035 LF speed sensor. Replaced the hub but warning lights are still on, tried clearing the code but it just comes back on. Any idea what else it could be?
Sometimes the wiring harnesses on the car side will break internally. You can’t see it on a visual inspection. Usually happens where there’s a bend in the harness.

Nicole Gainey lift car up turn wheel by hand!!! If it grinds its wheel hub!!! If not change spark plugs and air filter!!! You can also regap current spark plugs!!!
Low air or battery usually triggers a different code. Somebody took my sensors out of the system for the tires. Takes a high-end scanner to bypass them. Some places, this could be illegal.

so today i was leaving work in my 2011 malibu ..tire spun a little in the mud and then everything went to crap..reduced engine power, service traction service esc and check engine light ..hopefully mine is a similar fix ...i was able to run 50 mph in a 65 to get it home..now time to take it to have the codes scanned..

i have a 2007 impala. the same light comes on and when at a stop and accelerate it goes very slow. It takes a while before it goes up to regular speed. Could this also be my problem or what that be something else? It doesn't always do it and it goes away but then will come back. I have gone to numerous mechanics and none have been able to fix it. One mechanic said it was the transmission and had me change the transmission, but obviously it wasn't it as I am still having the same problem. Any suggestions?

I changed the automatic transmission fluid. It’s a sealed unit. Had to use dextron 5 on mine. It got most of the problems out, but still can hesitate on reverse randomly. It went away after resetting the computers in the car. The mechanic didn’t clear the codes after being serviced.

I put my sctx3 handheld on it and it pulled up 4codea, cam sensor cylinder 1 misfire detected,cylinder 1 injector open and intake [A] camshaft position timing o er advanced [bank 1] I'm no mechanic so I have no idea what to do

I changed 1 cam sensor today(front of motor) changing the next 1 tomorrow and cleaned all the plugs today and car still running like crap not as bad but still bad .it has an issue with revving up to 3k rpms also and staying there ...now it says engine reduced power as well as service traction and service esc

do you think grinding a rotor up will send shavings to bother the sensor at the bearing?
Not on this particular style because the sensor and tone ring are sealed inside the hub assembly. Some other models would be affected by that as they have the tone ring and sensor external. Many have the tone ring mounted on the axle shaft.
Question would this help if the steering wheel was stiff also ?
You may have an issue with the electric power steering.

I have the same problem except the ABS light is not on. Could still be a speed sensor? No loss of power but cruise does not work and brake lights stay on
Parking brake stuck on in the switch most likely. I can get mine to do it if I partially put the brake on.
Where is the speed sensor located at driver side or passenger side?
I had all those warnings and lights on my '11 HHR. I shoved a new battery in it and those problems went away.
