Fascinating trip through the Canal. I noted the resilience of nature when I saw plants clinging to near-vertical walls in the skinniest, tallest part of the canal, roots gasping for a hold in inhospitable rock, with sunlight poking down into the chasm for only few hours a day.
Yip indeed…we saw trees growing out of rock in Vathy…crazy as I can only imagine how old they are

I have been through the canal many times first was back in 85 en route from Cyprus to Palma De Mallorca doing a delivery we also stopped in Galixidion stern to the bars and restaurants one of my favorite stops on that trip.

An awesome video Mark and Fiona. I woke up this morning to get on to urgent jobs around home and got riveted on the Corinth Canal etc. Now I am in trouble for wasting the day on my phone.

That Corinth Canal is just stunning! I swear it looked like you were running through liquid turquoise the water was such a beautiful color! So nice to follow you guys, and what an amazing passage thru that Corinth canal..... the color of the water... more green than blue (at least on my screen), really nice... and your docking are getting very very good (says the guy who couldn't dock a rubber dinghy in a ferry slip.... - but it is really such a pleasure to watch your endeavor, thank you

Now you are in the Ionian I thoroughly recommend you visit the port of Vathy in Meganisi. It’s a pretty little port and there are many great Tavernas, the best being Stavros and Rose Garden.

Hello Mark. To fix the wind noise. add a High pass filter in your Dial track. or maybe the camera has that feature. you want it to be set to about 200 HZ HPF.
I cannot work out how iMovie for iPad does that. I have been fiddling with iPad pro but it’s like starting again and I was getting nowhere….i think mics and mic covers are the answer……getting really annoying!

Thank you for sharing your travels with us. Beautiful experiences passing through the canal. Great video from Capt Mark and First Office Fiona. Thank you for the history lesson as well. I enjoyed the Greek music, I was imagining people dancing in a Greak Restaurant. Yes Mark keep a lot of stuff unedited it is all part of real life situations. Thank you and Fiona for spending your time editing and preparing the videos. Your channel will grow, it is good stuff that you are posting. I know you were an airline Pilot and very well versed in communication with other planes and control towers. In shipping in open waters there are no control towers instructing the ships what to do. Many ships and boats and fishing vessels do not follow the rules of the road and sometimes when trying to communicate with them it is very hard because of language barriers and their poor English. Just a tip which you may already know, sometimes ships pass starboard to starboard instead of as per rules of the road and pass port to port. Just ensure other vessel and yourself are very clear and both understand that you have chosen to pass starboard to starboard or green to green. Confirm and reconfirm with other vessel. Sometime during your travels you will be navigating in waters with dense traffic, especially around South China Sea or English channel and European waters. If navigating through areas where they have vessel traffic seperation scheme in place the shore operators that monitor the vessels passing through the scheme usually only offer advice in cases where they deem necessary. They very seldom tell a ship what to do. It is still up to the Captain of the ship or two ships to ensure any risk of collision is avoided. So be very vigilant when navigating in areas where navigational area is restricted and you have dense traffic. Your size of boat should be exempt in most cases from following inside vessel traffic separation schemes. Yes your sideway method of berthing is good. Just remember try come in as slow as possible just a quick engagement of motor or motors then back to neutral. Check out currents and wind before side berthing because always best to berth against current and wind. In this way you have more control over your boat manoeuvring during berthing. If berthing sideways with a side wind take extra caution because wind will be pushing you towards the jetty. Try stop short of jetty then allow wind to slowly push you alongside. I am sure you already know most of this stuff. I sailed mostly on large commercial ships where you do not learn much ship handling. My ship handling was learned when I was working for a while on offshore patrol vessels about 60 meters in length.

I never minded the winter, hard not being around family
Kind of funny to see there was no ripple on the sea, we just crossed the channel as well, you had calm weather, we ended up in a non forecasted 6 Bft leading up to the channel and after that 7 Bft with 2 - 3 mtr waves. Btw, the max speed in the channel is 6 kts, so with 7.3 you were actually speeding. 😀First ended up in Katio, then Galaxidi after a night time arrival, great town, superb pasta in Skeleto Brachus and then on to Patras (that was the plan), but again in a storm so ended up for the night in the fort of Nafpaktos. Next day Patras in 7 Bft but luckily this time with us (not nice for the boats going towards Patras), now in Sivota for a few days which I can highly recommend. Sivota is on the South east side of Lefkada, restaurants have pontoons where you can moor up for free, as long as you eat in their restaurant. Were here last year, great to be back. Next week Corfu, so maybe we will see you there.

Great video as always! Mark one question, did you get your captains license or are you learning on the fly? I’ve been mulling over getting my captains license, or starting the process, the only problem is the only boat I currently have is a 24ft surf boat 🏄🏾♂️
I only have a Boatmasters from New Zealand which may prove a problem shortly trying to get into Montenegro next week…….they often want an ICC licence which seems to be accepted everywhere….do it

Probably not and even if it did the journey around the south would have been amazing

Impressive to be able to cross the Corinth Canal with your own boat. Not many people can do it, so I congratulate you again. Would it be too much to ask you to set a budget for travel expenses? I am mainly interested in those related to the boat's expenses (consumption, maintenance, cleaning, moorings, etc.) but surely other people are interested in other expenses. Thanks in advance.

Handset is a portable VHF which I prefer to the connected one…normally lives in the pilithouse

Possible mod for the hand held radio which looks difficult to keep putting back into its holder - make/get a case for the radio with a neodymium magnet and replace the holder with one that also has a magnet.
