Lake Huron is not to be messed with. Several years ago a friend from work invited me to go on a fishing trip. We took the Saginaw River to Lake Huron. Started out as a pretty nice day, but took a turn for the worst. There is a man made island not to far from the mouth of the river that we took cover behind because it would have been too rough to fish otherwise. After a couple of hours of fishing we notice many big yacht's struggling to get back to the river so we decided to cut the day short and head back ourselves. Turns out the waves were now too big for the boat we were in so we all put our life vests on and we began to zig zag to avoid hitting the waves head on. It tooks us what seemed like forever to get back to the safety of the river. I had always heard of stories when people got in trouble on Saginaw Bay (which is part of Lake Huron). We learned that lesson the hard way.
I lived in Port Huron from birth to 18 and absolutely love Lake Huron, sailed this lake with my uncle on his sailboat. Moved to Georgia and have missed the clean water and lake life so much.
The Great Lakes have so much beauty. Such a great and pretty place to grow up and live. Thank you for watching and sharing! Hope you can make it back to the fresh water soon! Cheers
I was born and lived my entire life in Michigan and have been to most of the places you covered but I really enjoyed your perspective coming in from the water.
I did forget to get a walkthrough of the engine room on this one 🤦🏼♂️ hopefully the rest of the video was enjoyable. Thank you for watching and for commenting. Cheers!

That was fun - and you visited my daughter’s home (Harbor Springs) and one of our favorite places to getaway (Saugatuck) before coming to my brother’s city of Chicago. Lovely. You can’t go wrong with any lake town, really.
Absolutely Great video Love those passages, more of them please. if possible next time slow the video speed during casting off and going along side as they are so excited moments to watch and informative. appreciate the effort captain. Lovely vessel and the distribution is so comfortable. Keep them coming please.
This trip I could have gotten some more of the docking set ups but leaving the dock in pitch black didn’t help for any footage. Planning the shots and camera angles is ever changing especially with docking situations being ever changing so I don’t always have enough time to plan in advance. I’ll definitely work on getting better on that for sure. Thank you for watching and for your feedback! Cheers!

Loved this! New sub here. I grew up here in Michigan. Was lucky enough to crew on a Tarten 37. You need to experience the Bayview Mackinac Race sometime! You just did the course! But sailing it is a joy -or a nightmare - depending on that weather. We actually won several times! Celebrated by doing the North Channel, the Benjamins, etc. So many wonderful memories. The Great Lakes are so special. Thank-you for sharing your trip. Looking forward to many more. Cheers! PS. The big bridge is called the "Mighty Mac"! You can walk across it every Labor Day! Really cool. And try to stay at The Grand on Mackinac sometime. It truely is magical. Enjoy some smoked whitefish & a glass of something nice from the Michigan vineyards. Go Blue!
Love all these great details and tips! I always hear “Mighty Mac” but wasn’t sure if that was slang or official. I’d love to spend some time on the island. Seeing pictures of winter on island and that actually looks amazing too, with snowmobiles everywhere. You’re absolutely right, the Great Lakes are so special. Love them. Thank you so much for watching and for the great feedback you shared. So glad you enjoyed the video. More to come! Ps, I’m a Hawkeye, so it somewhat pains me to say go blue but, you guys deserved it this year for sure! Cheers!
Great Trip - great to see many of the ports I visited with my parents as a kid in our 1962 Chris Craft Constellation. Only thing we missed seeing was the engine room on your trip. Thanks again for a great time on the Great Lakes.
Couldn’t find anything interesting on TV so I put on RUclips and this video popped up. Thank you so much for taking us along on this fun delivery trip! This was really interesting and inspiring! Had me daydreaming of selling everything and buying a live aboard- not that big, of course!
Just found your channel. Great video! I’ve subscribed and I’ll be watching older videos as I can. Thanks for all of the information. Fair winds and safe travels! Cheers! 🍻

Holy cow small world! Great vessel by the way! Congrats on your new baby. I hope she treats you well. I’ll look for you next time in out on Erie. Thank you for watching and sharing your story! Super cool. Cheers!
Isn’t that the truth! Most people who haven’t spent time out here think, it’s just a “lake”. And that’s where many are greatly mistaken. These lakes are like inland seas (Lake Superior actually is!). Thank you for watching and sharing your experiences! Helpful for others to hear. Cheers 🙌🏼
Well done sir! First video I've seen ofits kind on the great lakes and I completely enjoyed it...spent some yrs off Waukegan harbor, loved the white-capped days.
Good example and explanation against the naive simplicity of not just going out and buying a boat and simply setting off into the horizon. The presenter highlighted the important safety aspects one must take into consideration regarding weather, sea state, tides etc. one must be proficient in passage planning and preparation.
I did the great circle tour with my dad...florida to sheboygan WI, then back to florida via chicago and the rivers southbound. Great trip. Huron was a rainy stormy bastard when we were on it
The problem I’ve had with calling ahead and expecting any warnings or alerts is a lot of the marinas on the Great Lakes employee young uninformed summer help. I’ve had a few mishaps because of this. Presque Isle is a great place but it’s pronounced Preesk~eel I had family that lived there and I call Traverse city home while traveling the lakes in the summer Our company built the yacht club in Bay Harbor as well as several of the homes just a beautiful place. Great looking yacht and a top notch video I enjoyed it all.
@@ElevateYachtDan, I enjoyed every moment of this video! I’ve never seen anything like it before and the grand tour of Michigan with its little marinas and towns was so great.
Nice job. I did a 12-day delivery from Norfolk, VA to Sarasota, FL on a 62ft Vicem over the Christmas holiday. I'm from Chicago but I haven't been back there since visiting in 2013. Hopefully back this summer. Cool channel, subscribed. Bear Down!
Michigan born and raised! I love the Great Lakes! They really are like inland seas; incredible that middle of Lake Huron is more than 50 miles from land in any direction in parts :D
@@xtravelling7154 Mitchell was using his DJI Mini2. The drone did great and got some amazing shots. Mitchell did great work there. For launching and landing the drone, I will slow the boat to idle or neutral while the pilot can do their thing, then off running again. Thank you for watching and for the great questions! Cheers!
Just started following you tonight 👍what a fantastic video really interesting for the likes of me who has no boating experience whatsoever looking forward to watching more on your channel 👍
Awesome you got to tour our little summer town of Saugatuck! Definitely the best place to visit in Michigan!!! I love my summers there and we have tons of Chicago people living here too!
I live about a half hour west of Rogers City and it was really awesome to see you pulling into that town which I am very familiar with. Thank you for sharing your videos
I would love to make it up that way! Have a client who has asked me to deliver his Sunseeker 68 Manhattan to Isle Royale in the past but scheduling didn’t work. Maybe this year?! Very happy you enjoyed the video! Thank you for watching and commenting. Hopefully I’ll see you on Superior soon!
I live outside of Cleveland. I'm not even sure how your video popped up but when it did I watched the whole thing continuously... Have never been to the upper peninsula of Michigan..... Yet.... Anyway, your yacht was beautiful, and stopping by the little towns with all the info you gave was great! I'm now a new subscriber 😎
Love your trip. I’m 76 and been boating the lakes since my uncles and dad would take me fishing not too far from Port Austin in Lake Huron. Usual trips were Lake Huron, Upper Lake Michigan, Lake Superior and a little Lake Erie. Even made to Isle Royal in Lake Superior 56 miles from the tip of the Keewenaw Peninsula. Did the trip in a 32’ go fast boat on a dead calm day. Had to do the equivalent of breaking the sound barrier while passing the carrier. We went wide open exhaust in the inner harbor to amuse the lover of the peace and quite. Sorry.
Wow! Such a cool story! I’ve been wanting to get up to Isle Royal. Was just talking about that spot with a client last week. Sounds like a perfect day to make that trip. It’s a rare thing to have that flat of water up there for sure. I’m really happy you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching and for sharing your on water experiences! Cheers!
My ex-wife lives in Cincinnati or rather Bethel. That's about as much as I know about Ohio besides the Trriple F Collection is there too. The Prestige is a pretty neat yacht. I remember seeing yachts when we were in Minnesota and I was told that if the yacht was over 45', they came in on a freighter and if it was under 44', they transported it via rail or on a trailer. On Lake Superior we saw a 110' Cheoy Lee explorer yacht. That was the coolest thing I had ever seen there and this was about 23 years ago when I had just gotten out of yachting. It gave me hope.
All Prestige vessels are built in a factory in France, so no matter the size, they do have to some here on a freighter, then either finish their journey via water or land depending on their size. You are pretty correct about vessels under 45-50' being typically able to be transported on a semi trailer, as long as it's not too tall. We get our new yachts delivered to Cleveland off the freighter so we have shorter distance to bring them back to Chicago. Typically have 5 new yachts a year that will need water transport from Cleveland to Chicago. Thank you for watching and sharing your experiences. It's always pretty crazy to see the big boy vessels of 100+' out on the Great Lakes. Cheers!
I grew up boating & sailing on the Great Lakes in Michigan. We often did the North Channel. We were dazzled one time when a Cheoy Lee cruised by our little secluded anchorage! Felt like a cruise ship had arrived! Such a cool vessel. We were on a Tartan 37 so not a dinghy! Cheers.
Hi I Just subscribed but I have to mention that you and I have the same bi-color hands lol, vitiligo is a distinction we both have, I´m getting a lot of knowledge with your channel but I have never sail as captain in a big boat, I do have my boaters license but its not for big boats.
Very cool! Vitiligo is actually a lot more common than I initially expected. I’m very happy to hear you’re enjoying the channel and learning from it! That’s great to hear. Thank you very much of watching, subscribing and for sharing your thoughts. Great to hear from you. Cheers
Fully agree! Wish I could have stayed longer. That was my first time there and definitely didn’t get the full experience. Thanks for watching and sharing! Cheers
I was wondering if you could not fast forward during your docking process so we can hear what instruction you would give. Also, are fenders really needed on a fixed dock?? They don’t seem to be doing much.. One more thing, if you ran the boat at 80 percent of rated wide open throttle, you would get a more efficient cruising speed/fuel economy versus .42 total mpg @ 2700 rpm. Great video!
I commented once to another question, but yes I should and can in the future slow the docking. The dockings during this trip weren’t overly technical since most delivery trips consist of laying up along a T dock or face dock. We don’t always know the dock situation ahead of time so we always have fenders deployed but find that many places in MI have fixed docks with large pylons protruding making fenders useless like you see here. We were running the boat at 70-80% throttle as recommended by the manufacturer. Efficiency is not the number one priority on a delivery trip like this since we are working to get the brand new vessel back to Chicago to start the detailing and sales process so time is of the essence with a mid summer delivery. If it were an owner owned vessel and we were punching Pennies, yes efficiency is important. Thank you very much for watching and for your great questions and feedback. Cheers! Glad you enjoyed the video
LOVE Agave & Rye--we have a great branch here in Chattanooga! I'm curious--if you weren't recording and thus concerned about sound for video, would you have driven from the Flybridge more than you did on the nicer days?
Great question! I love driving from the flybridge. Amazing visibility and wind in the hair. But, on a trip like this when we’re traveling at faster speeds for longer periods of time, the constant wind in your face can become a bit much. Plus it’s kind of nice to be able to sit, relax and have a quiet conversation on the inside as well. Both have their values for sure. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Grew up in Northern Mi and got to boat Lake Huron and Lake Michigan with my dad in our 32ft Chris Craft. Have gotten to visit Presque Isle, Bay harbor and all the surrounding harbors. Great video. Brought back a lot of good memories
That’s so cool to hear! Memories from growing up on the water are the best! So glad I could help bring some of those back. Thank you very much for watching and sharing your story! Cheers!
I grew up on the straights of Mackinac St.Ignace Michigan I am from a family that spent their lives commercial fishing. My family originated from Mackinac island my great grandfather x4 was stationed at fort Mackinac from 1796-1803 and was was the first hotel owner on the island. I worked commercial fishing for a couple of years during the summer and the winter and I have experienced every type of weather out on the lakes . I have been out in 10 foot seas which was terrifying especially when you boat is only 22 ft. Been in fog banks and almost getting rammed by a 1000 foot freighter. I no longer live there but my family still does it is always home thanks for the video.
The crew quarters were full of new delivery stuff on this trip so it wouldn’t have been a proper tour. Here is a video from Cannes where I get into the crew quarters ruclips.net/video/dVn6WIlFnVE/видео.htmlsi=rnjSxM4cvZLdY4Bp Thanks for watching and for the follow up!
Dan, thanks for making and sharing this video. Nice work! The only thing missing for me was a bit of technical data and maybe an engine view. Even a quick oil check would be cool, it would be as much a part of your daily life on this boat as the accommodations unless you hired a captain and deck hand to travel with you. (Of course I can’t afford this vessel so maybe that’s exactly what people do :) Thanks again!
The engine view was definitely something that slipped my mind. The mix of focusing on the safety of this brand new vessel, dealing with conditions, entertaining a client, all while trying to get quality content, a few things got missed 😖 Doing all the content and editing on my own, while also working can get to be a lot. it would be easier if I hired someone to simply follow me around and shoot…maybe some day. I’ll work to get more of this style of content though! Baby steps :)
First of all, let me say that I have watched this video 10 times and continue to enjoy it! But what I really would like to know if you could do a video explaining trim tabs? I think I know what they’re supposed to do, but I really would like for you to explain them!
OMG Felt like a home tour! born in Cleveland, raised in Detroit, have cottage & family in northern Michigan near Presque Isle and Mackinaw, and worked in Saugatuck for over a decade. lol, thanks for the memories!
Going to guess you're doing that for Springbrook? I had the same unforgettable opportunity when they took a Sea Ray 480 Motor Yacht in on trade. It was located in Sandusky, OH so Jim Thorpe flew us there and we brought it back to Seneca, IL. We did the whole trip in 4 LONG days but it was still unforgettable.
Spent my youth on long distance sailing on the great lakes one thing have trouble getting used to is the unlimited usage of electricity you get on a power cruiser.
Used to pull into Presque Isle as a kid on my parents boat back in the 70’s; there wasn’t a house within many miles. The only road to the marina was a very rough two track. You could watch Sturgeon swimming in formation under the boat with black bears playing on the shore. Great place and good memories! ❤
Excellent video!!!!! Really enjoyed the journey and the education you share. Keep it coming.
Great to hear you enjoyed the video! Thank you for watching and commenting! Cheers 🙌🏼

Great looking yacht and a top notch video I enjoyed it all.
Where do you put the tender? Usually aft of the upper helm but didn’t see a davit for it. Is there a garage?
Many fond memories of chartering over the years, including warm fall waters and great anchorages along the North Channel. Now on the West Coast.
I WANT YOUR JOB! Great video...thanks for sharing
How cool! I can't wait until my schedule allows me to do some similar type trips!
Captain Dan, it's awesome to see you again!
Glad to be back. Hope you enjoyed the video. Cheers
@@ElevateYachtDan, I enjoyed every moment of this video! I’ve never seen anything like it before and the grand tour of Michigan with its little marinas and towns was so great.
Great job captain and thanks for the ride 👍
Presque Isle is a beautiful area, along with the rest of the northern peninsula. We’ll be heading up there next week.
Just found channel, love it! I spend alot of mornings on lk stclair and those sunrises are unlike anywere else
Welcome to the channel! Glad you’re here and enjoying it. Thank you for watching and sharing! Cheers!
Nice job. I did a 12-day delivery from Norfolk, VA to Sarasota, FL on a 62ft Vicem over the Christmas holiday. I'm from Chicago but I haven't been back there since visiting in 2013. Hopefully back this summer. Cool channel, subscribed. Bear Down!
Vicem is a beautiful boat! Sounds like an awesome trip. Hit me up if you make it back to the city. Cheers. Thanks for commenting!
Great trip! Your content is second to none!
Really appreciate the kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you for watching and commenting 🙌🏼
Michigan born and raised! I love the Great Lakes! They really are like inland seas; incredible that middle of Lake Huron is more than 50 miles from land in any direction in parts :D
Awesome video.
You're back with a new video! Glad you're back man😊
So glad to be back! Thank you for watching and keeping up with the channel. I really appreciate you! Cheers 🙌🏼
@@ElevateYachtwhich drone did you use for the shots? Mine always has trouble with winds and all that. How did you land on the moving boat?
@@xtravelling7154 Mitchell was using his DJI Mini2. The drone did great and got some amazing shots. Mitchell did great work there. For launching and landing the drone, I will slow the boat to idle or neutral while the pilot can do their thing, then off running again. Thank you for watching and for the great questions! Cheers!
Just started following you tonight 👍what a fantastic video really interesting for the likes of me who has no boating experience whatsoever looking forward to watching more on your channel 👍
Welcome to the channel! Very glad you’re enjoying it. New video in the works, stand by!
Cheers
Very nice! That would be a good gig to have would love to do the same thing! I live in Michigan!
Awesome you got to tour our little summer town of Saugatuck! Definitely the best place to visit in Michigan!!! I love my summers there and we have tons of Chicago people living here too!
If you come back, definitely stop by Wally’s!
Great tip! Thank you. I’ll definitely check it out 🙌🏻
I live about a half hour west of Rogers City and it was really awesome to see you pulling into that town which I am very familiar with. Thank you for sharing your videos
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching and commenting! Cheers
Fantastic video, being on the Gulf of Mexico near Destin, Florida don’t see much about boating up North. What made the boat need 100% trim tab?
Fantastic video!! Love the video log of your trip. I’m on Lake Superior and was hoping you’d be up our way! Maybe next time…😊
I would love to make it up that way!
That’s great to hear! Glad you enjoyed and subscribed. Thank you. Cheers! 🙌🏻
Cheers
Parents have been bringing my brother and I to Saugatuck since we were born. Fun town to visit and walk around in!
Fully agree! Wish I could have stayed longer. That was my first time there and definitely didn’t get the full experience. Thanks for watching and sharing! Cheers
Being a Michigander and familiar with all the ports of call you visited made this vlog very interesting! Well done!👏👏👏
Super cool to hear! Love these parts. The Michigan coastline is unmatched. Thank you for watching and sharing! Cheers!
Great Captain and crew. Very knowledgeable . Enjoyed video
Cheers!
Great video Dan! Fantastic vessel.
Thank you very much for watching and commenting! Cheers 🙌🏼
Wow! This is such a cool family story. Thank you very much for sharing. What a history. Thanks for watching and for sharing. Cheers!
You mentioned crew quarters and I didn't see the engine room on the tour.
The crew quarters were full of new delivery stuff on this trip so it wouldn’t have been a proper tour. Here is a video from Cannes where I get into the crew quarters ruclips.net/video/dVn6WIlFnVE/видео.htmlsi=rnjSxM4cvZLdY4Bp
Thanks for watching and for the follow up!
You have presque isle harbor in cheboygan… presque isle is about 60 miles away from cheboygan…
(Of course I can’t afford this vessel so maybe that’s exactly what people do :)
Thanks again!
The engine view was definitely something that slipped my mind. The mix of focusing on the safety of this brand new vessel, dealing with conditions, entertaining a client, all while trying to get quality content, a few things got missed 😖
Doing all the content and editing on my own, while also working can get to be a lot. it would be easier if I hired someone to simply follow me around and shoot…maybe some day.
I’ll work to get more of this style of content though! Baby steps :)
It wasn’t about the yacht, it was about the what you go through for delivery of that yacht!
@@leeparker3159 thanks for stating the obvious. Do you think you’d deliver this rig without checking the oil?
Bob Evan’s Restaurants in Ohio are one of my favorites! Extremely consistent and tasty.
My bucket list is to eat biscuits and gravy at every Bob Evans in the country! Lol
Damn that’s cool! Great spots. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
As far as a realistic dream job goes... You've got it. The kinda job you don't have to be blessed athleticly or financially to achieve
"Everything's a boat to me." Words to live by.
Used to pull into Presque Isle as a kid on my parents boat back in the 70’s; there wasn’t a house within many miles. The only road to the marina was a very rough two track. You could watch Sturgeon swimming in formation under the boat with black bears playing on the shore. Great place and good memories! ❤
Wow!! That sounds amazing! Thank you very much for watching and for sharing such a cool experience. Cheers!
Great vlog! I’ve been on inland lakes my whole life, now in the 1000 islands & love it.
Oh wow that’s an area I’ve always wanted to spend time in! Super cool area. Thank you for watching and sharing. Cheers!
This is a job i have always wanted to try out, awesome to see my home harbor (Bay Harbor) in the video!
been on many prestige Corks,,, an inner coastal boat. Good Video Captain
