      Gotta make sure the highest ranking person goes last, they get the exploding fist bump and it's poor taste to do that more than once in a group fist bump.

    When living in the US for a year I was constantly in awe about how at ease people generally are when introducing people to each other or when starting a talk with a total stranger. I suspect a few of the rules you have outlined would have to be adjusted in different countries or cultures. I would love to hear from asian, african or latin american viewers if this was the case in their countries. Excellent tie knot by the way!

    Nicely done once again, dear fellow.
    The matter of rank had not occurred to me, but as I think of it, this approach to introductions often happens naturally. It is helpful to be more mindful of it, though.
    Having a memory like Swiss cheese, I have resorted to the "prompt" style of introduction more often than I care to admit.

  • @Gilamath.
    @Gilamath. 5 лет назад +4

    Great video, with principles straight from Emily Post herself! I do recall that Mrs. Post includes one additional parameter in determining rank: gender. Women, says Mrs. Post, are of a higher rank than men, and so even an older gentleman is introduced to a young woman, rather than the other way around. I tend to follow this, and it serves me well. It seems feminist, in a fashion, without being condescending. Still, I can see why making ANY distinction based on gender can be seen by some as inappropriate. Is this why the parameter of gender was omitted from the video? Have you any thoughts about whether the parameter is valid in the 21st century? I’d appreciate any thoughts

    • @vlmxs
      @vlmxs 5 лет назад +1

      Talha Mukhtar thank you! I am not the only one who does this in an old fashioned way, when female always ranks higher.

    • @gentlemansgazette
      @gentlemansgazette  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your question, Talha! The simple answer is that when we conducted our research for this video, none of the sources we consulted raised this consideration of gender. As a point of fact, even the official website for the Emily Post Institute (which was one of our sources) no longer features such a consideration. All we would say in addition is that if this method has worked for you, you may certainly keep using it. Cheers!
      - Preston

  • @guywright7388

    Invaluable information, thank you. About forgetting names, if you forget one person's name when making introductions I have used a method whereby I look at the person I have forgotten the name of while indicating the person I know and introduce them by name. The person so who's name I have forgotten usually then will introduce themself to the other person, and we both then have the forgotten name. If I am left hanging I simply then tell the person I forgot the name of I have had a sudden memory blank and they then make their own introduction.
    Once again, thank you for the excellent videos.

    Thank you for your educational videos. Just a small remark, there is a difference between professional and social settings. In any social setting, a gentleman should be introduced to a lady out of respect. I am not considering royal protocol when referring to the social setting.

    I've gotta say, while I love the videos and appreciate the time and information...I'd love to see the lighting corrected a bit to make you guys look even better. In many videos the light is too low giving the "horror movie" effect or too strong, creating bad hot spots. I may be overly picky since I work in the photo realm but it would truly elevate the vids. But great info and keep up the work!

    I think there is a detail to decide who should be introduced first if both my aquaintences are of equal status. The person with whom I come to an event/that I bring up to someone else should be named first in my opinion. I have spent more time with this person and the other is new to the situation, therefore the person I am aproaching with my friend should be named last.
    Am I making sense? :)

    I love Gentlemen’s Gazette. I always wonder, why do you wear your glasses in the way that your eyes are almost hidden behind the upper part of the frame of your glasses? Is that on purpose? Wouldn’t it be nicer to have them more in the middle of the glasses?

      Light reflection on glasses is something that needs to be considered when producing videos. It is very common to see “odd” angles on eyewear when studio lights are involved.
