I’m down here in Venice for a week visiting the mother in law. We lived here about 4 years ago. It’s crazy to see the city like this. So many trees still down. Tempted to volunteer while I am here.
Zoysia grass says it goes dormant when the ground turns 50. St Augustine says 55. But I see Zoysia grass go dormant the fastest. In my SWFL neighborhood located near you it is always brown through the winter. It is almost like it knows winter is coming and goes brown in advance of the 50 degree ground temps. I remember up north you would occasionally see a plugged Zoysia grass lawn and it stuck out like a sore thumb in October because it was brown and greened up very late in the spring.
The doughnut hole sod cutter is not available at Home Depot. Amazon wants big money for one. I found a 7" hole saw you can put on a drill will do a great job.
Yeah in southern Mi my last mow is usually around thanksgiving well its normally just some final leaf cleanup and running the mow out of gas for the winter the actual last mowing of the grass is about the first week in November normally. Only about a month left
When you make the next video could talk about lawn striping before the end of season. Is it still a good idea to lay down heavy stripes before going into winter up north. Would it still be ok to not use a striping kit or and just mow only for air circulation. Thanks.
So many great tips. TY. Howza bout some more tips on centipede. I live in the Savannah area and there is a lot of lawns with centipede here, mine included. Additionally, many products for weed control do not seem to work on these lawns. TY again and keep 'em comin'.
I'm down in Brunswick, my yard is a mess. I think the weeds grow outta thin air (I walk and spot spray my lawn bout twice a month). Chamberbitter, Doveweed, Nutsedge, etc. It never ends.
Not sure why you need to buy another tool when you already have a trimmer. Just turn it sideways and clear the grass off your sprinkler heads. It also helps keep your not hit grass around it when it goes off like it did at the end of this video.
My lawn could never look this good. It's all mixed with St Augistine (I love), Centipede (it's ok); and Bermuda (hate it). Plus I got moles (caught 12 this season), plus Doveweed, Chamberbitter, and Nutsedge all mixed in on my 1 acre lot (bout half is the actual grass, structures/pavment/pool cover the rest). I walk and spot spray twice a month, the moles damage it, and the weeds never go away, oh and the Geese (whole nother subject), in Coastal GA.
Thank you Toro for getting involved in the clean up for Florida. I just purchased a new Toro this fall, a large part of my decision to buy Toro was from this channel.
As always great content Allyn! Hey I over-seeded back at the end of August, northern Illinois, grass came up pretty well and now since we are in mid October I am wondering if it would be safe to put a pre-emergent down yet? Soil temps are still near 60?? Thank you
You always talk about pre-emergents but what about post emergents for st.augustine grass?? Ive been struggling with alot of differnet types of weeds. Most of them look like flowers and busshy. Please HELP
Helpful video my question is if I put down a app of Meso third week of September should that carry me through till spring my final app of liquid fertilizer will be 10 days before Halloween should I mix in some pro-diamine WDG with that thanks
That's awesome from Toro, Toro is a brand I stand by for their great products and their amazing support! Glad your lawn didn't get to messed up from IAN I was worried lol
Just did an application of Stress Blend and Spoon Juice today...this is 8 days after I did a broad application of sulfrentrazone. Looking a little sad...but it'll be nice and green by end of this week!!
In Louisiana my st aug is turning kinda yellow.. I am watering but my floritam is great....just not the other st aug. We have not had rain in 4 weeks. Doing the best I can on 1 income.
Yo LCN! Great advice and awesome of Toro for helping, here, in Florida. 💯👍 Though, I gotta say: at about @3:30 timestamp, you grouped centipede grass in with St. Augustine and bahaaaaia grasses to be mowed tall. Due respect, centipede should be grouped with Bermuda and zoysia grasses to be short. Approximately 1-2 inches tall. Just sayin. In any case, glad your safe after hurricane Ian and God bless! 😁
Hey I’ve got centipede mixed with patches of st aug and an embarrassing amount of weeds in central Florida (about 30 mins east of Ocala and 30 mins west of Daytona) I’ve been mowing mine at about 2” since I purchased my house 2 years ago. What’s the ideal height for it? Seems to do fine at 2 but I wouldn’t know the difference being im new to lawn care. My dad always had st aug so he kept his way high
St Aug, 3 inch min, but Centipede likes 2 - 2.5. I have patches of both, plus some Bermuda (hate it, scalp it). I adjust my rider height as I drive onto different areas of the lawn. I just wish my grass was more dense, thick to lock weeds out.
So I’m planning to dominate for Halloween. I have a cool season lawn. Just got my double down pack. Is it safe to do pre-emergents now or wait until after Domination day? From my understanding, whenever you do weed controls, it discolors the lawn a little and I don’t want to be counterproductive with this.
I need a pre-emergent that does not include atrazine or atrazeneca in it. I see some products like WOW! Pre-emergent weed killer that say corn gluten stops weeds like crabgrass and broadleaf from growing. Any thoughts? No I am not a crackpot.
Just bought the Boot Camp training and have been on the app program for a year. In the Mid TN Transition Zone, and looking to switch from TTTF to Zoysia. What is the best way to transition other than sod? I don’t want to burn the lawn down if I don’t have to. Looking at seed in April.
It's difficult to see warm season turf. Establishment is slow. That's why sod us recommended. It's immediate competition fir weeds. Even if you seed, you still have to burn down the fescue anyway. Would be a good podcast topic.
@@Thelawncarenut Thank you for the feedback. My yard got smoked again this season. As you know, it’s a lot of work and 💵 going through the starting over process. I’d like to have a yard with much less maintenance than fescue. I was hoping to integrate Zoysia seed into the fescue next April, but don’t want to waste money. If I do change to Zoysia, I’ll take your advice on sod. Thanks. 👍🏻
Hey Al, Is it normal for St. Augustine in Florida (after 15 inches of Ian rain) to be light and have a yellowish tinge? I applied Double Dark two days ago and will apply 26-0-0 in two weeks. Any other suggestions?
I think for use around the house they are great! Super big stuff they struggle with a bit but can do. I'm actually really pleased with how well they have done for us.
The consensus from what I’ve read on various FB pages and web sites is it’s more trouble than it’s worth. Potentially cause the SA stress and makes a mess of things come next year. I’ve never done it myself - but I’d keep reading up in it before doing it.
Glad to see you faired well from Ian. A lot more palm damage in Sarasota. Aeration played a huge part! I’m definitely dominating and your guide is a big reason.
Huge thank you to Toro! Those tool have been a huge help for our volunteers to help us clean up from the hurricane!
I agree 🇺🇸🙏

Have a blessed Sunday everyone. Prayers up for Florida 🙏🙏🙏
Great information as always, Alyn! God bless Brett, his church, and Toro for what they are doing in Florida! Prayers to everyone involved.
Panhandle of Florida here, I haven’t had any rain in over a month! My St. Aug is hanging in thanks to the hydretain!
Really thanks for info still learning some things I can tighten up
I always like to mow short at the end of the year being up north in PA I like to mow it low because it makes leaf cleanup easier

I got my pre e down this week
Good afternoon everybody
That's awesome that Toro sent equipment to help and Brett for being available to help. 👍🏻
I enjoyed the mow, but my favorite will always be Curley.

Love Toro. Best lawn mower company.

Glad to see you're okay! Haven't seen you for a while.
Should I put down fall preermegent down into new st Augustine lawn I put down 3 months ago?
I think so.
Thank you Toro for getting involved in the clean up for Florida.
I just purchased a new Toro this fall, a large part of my decision to buy Toro was from this channel.
What do you recommend for Florida pusley in St Augustine
What's up with the lawn donut? Why such a large area for a sprinkler? Never seen that before...
Thanks Brett! He appears to be with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Helping Hands!

No need.. the weeds won't survive the winter anyways.. you could use Scotts weed and feed
You always talk about pre-emergents but what about post emergents for st.augustine grass?? Ive been struggling with alot of differnet types of weeds. Most of them look like flowers and busshy. Please HELP
Please add GreeneKick to the Build a Box options!!

WTG Toro you just earned a new buyer /supporter
Hey hey
Thanks for the great info. You’ve helped me improve and maintain my lawn over the last few years. I appreciate you for it.
God Bless
glad to see you survived the hurricane brother! 👍
Nice that Toro sent some chainsaws but what church was that on the ground doing all the hard labor?
Oh I see someone else mentioned that it's The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Just did an application of Stress Blend and Spoon Juice today...this is 8 days after I did a broad application of sulfrentrazone. Looking a little sad...but it'll be nice and green by end of this week!!
Thanks Allyn Looking Forward to the WInterizers!!!!!
For anyone wondering who the church was it was the helping hands group from The church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints.
What were product used?
You have half a million followers. That's crazy. Good for you. I'm a noob and the community on YT has saved me.
Great advice for cool season, Taking the tall fescue down gradually to just over 2”. Get a ton of snow up here in Michigan
In Louisiana my st aug is turning kinda yellow.. I am watering but my floritam is great....just not the other st aug. We have not had rain in 4 weeks. Doing the best I can on 1 income.

It's been quite dry here in Cincinnati. Many lawns are brown. What should I do about fertilizer? Just throw'er down, and hope for the best? ;)
"Hairy Bittercress" was my stage name in college. Seriously though, glad to hear you guys 'oer by dere in Flo-rida are hanging in there after Ian.

Prodiamine pre emergent won't discolor the lawn. Feel free to apply anytime. 1👍
I think the Bahia Grass part blew out my eardrums...
It sure did mine too

Still looks low. Maybe raise it a 1/4”?
Hey Al,
Is it normal for St. Augustine in Florida (after 15 inches of Ian rain) to be light and have a yellowish tinge? I applied Double Dark two days ago and will apply 26-0-0 in two weeks. Any other suggestions?
Yep all the nutrient washed out. The DD will take eff3ct in about 7 days.
What do you think about battery chain saws?? I’m going to buy gas or battery.
They're awesome! I bought an EGO Chain Saw this year. It cuts like butter.
I think for use around the house they are great! Super big stuff they struggle with a bit but can do. I'm actually really pleased with how well they have done for us.
Thoughts on overseeding st agustine grass with rye grass on the winter? I’m in Arlington Texas.
I have not ever tried it but I don't think it would hurt anythnig so maybe you can have some fun!

Who needs the extra thatch come spring time ? My vote is NO.
🤣🤣👍
Little early but are you doing another Christmas lights video this year?
Thanks Allyn. What though is the name of the Toro tool?.
it's a "donut sod cutter" and the best thing to do is get one locally. In Florida all the hardware stores have them.
🙏🇺🇸💥
Check you out with the ole spray and talk. Nice
👍
What is the name of that tool for sprinklers?
Orbit 7” Sprinkler Sod Cutter
it's called a "donut sod cutter"
Down here south Texas I’m fighting some pretty bad fungus
Where can I buy that toro Hat?
I got it at a trade show.
Brah you’re just Willy nilly spraying who taught you?!
Hey, what about us up in Ontario Canada. Hey!
No more backpack sprayer?👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I think you blew out the speaker w/ the bahia grass call out
it was a bit painful 😂
Glad to see you faired well from Ian. A lot more palm damage in Sarasota. Aeration played a huge part! I’m definitely dominating and your guide is a big reason.
