I cannot express my gratitude to you oh my gosh. I have been to every forum, every blender discord, I even fully recreated my entire model from scratch because the rig would not work and this was all I needed. Thank you so much, you seriously dont know how much this means to me, I was truly about to give up.
You are the only person I have come across to explain what I needed to fix in the most clear way possible. Thank you so much. Now I’ll always know how to fix it
It’s been literal years since I’ve wanted an explanation of accessories not following my rig!! All I’ve been told is to weight paint it so I gave up. Thanks to you I can finally move forward!!!!!
Another cool way is to use the modifier surface deform to attach accessories to a mesh. This modifier means that you can "cheat" quite a bit with things. I've used it to attach complicated armour bits to clothing and voila, no need for parenting to bones or weight painting. Also the surface deform modifier requires no simulation, its just moving points around so I can animate in real time, no lag at all!
I was THIS close to giving the whole thing up and after hours of searching why accessories acted all stupid, I find this gem of a video lol You're my hero.
I couldn’t thank you enough for this tutorial! I was searching high and low across the internet for an answer to the issue of seperate objects (such as hair) not following my rig correctly. This tutorial helped me solve that issue. THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!
OH MY GOD... i've been stuck on this issue for MONTHS!!! i had no idea how to do it i've searched and searched and couldnt find anything finally came across this video and fixed in seconds... thank you so SO much my god!!!
Oh my god. I started using blender a bit before you put this video out. if had just waited a little longer I would have had the answer to my first issue. glad i found it now.
oh god, just found this video after having trouble to solve he problems for days. Thank you, thank you. you save the day and made my day at the same time. 😭
Rig is still not connecting to the mesh. Ctrl A > All Transforms for the skeleton once it was fit inside the mesh, Generated Rig (scale was perfect), Ctrl P> Automatic Weights, went into Pose Mode and the rig moves without the mesh following
lot of people seem to have this problem but i haven't had any problem like this, i probably will look for it, select your model go to vertex groups and check out if the bone parts are there, if they are not the problem is with the parenting probably.
when i automatic wight paint, or ctrl+p bone nothing pairs to my mesh. i can move the armature but the mesh does not follow? what is the solution to this?
THANK YOU SO MUCH! My mesh was total mess after I parent it to the rig and I couldn’t figure out what’s the problem WHOLE DAY! For some reason it was normals inwards

When I rotate my spine on x the head and eyes hair glasses move with. But when I try to rotate just the head, bone, glasses eyes and hair obey but the head distorts 😭
hello i buy a rigged model but the targets on knees are cross instead of infront of each knee.. if a fix position on edit mode on pose mode all works ok but the mesh og legs twist..how i can reposition the targets without affect the mesh? thnks
Thank you for the video. I have an issue you didn't discuss here. Perhaps you have elsewhere (I'll look around your videos). In the meantime ... When I generate the rig, the shoulder control comes out lopsided. I don't know if it's related, but I can't move one of the arms without affecting the whole body. I've weight painted. I've moved some bones and regenerated. Nothing fixes it. Any thoughts?
suscribed! look my problem is similar to the last you pointed out but WAY WORSE. when I lift let's say the right leg, the right leg barley follows but twisted and deformed, BUT the other leg gets even more affected by that move and also clothes, boots, accesories. I coudn't identify the issue in days. could parenting with automatic weight work that bad? or am I missing something else? Hope you can help me...
The problem you have not covered is that for some reason the armatures are not connected, and that's a problem for my rig. Do I have to restart the whole thing again?
I’ve got an issue with my rig where everything’s weight painted correctly and finished, but the bones are pulling the entire mesh instead of just the weight painted area and I’ve got no idea how to fix it
I actually have a problem where when i move one arm, both the arms move, i checked constraints and it's not linked to the other limb in any way. Do you know how that can be fixed?
for some reason the left side and the right side of my legs are weighted the exact same and with the joints and stuff, the right side works fine but the left side still bends or shrivels when moving
I have an issue with a character rig. The character has 4 arms. The arms seem to line up correctly with the bones but the torso does not act as one unit and stretches when I lower the waist to bend the knees. Also the part of the rig on the feet was generated below the feet so it does not move the feet but distorts the shins. I have no idea why since the bones were aligned properly to the mesh. There do not seem to be any really good tutorials for humanoid rigs with 4 arms. Usually trying to make a character with 4 arms breaks the rig generation. This was the first time I was able to generate a working rig for a character with 4 arms and it doesn't work right.
Hii, I have created a photo scan of a human and imported it in blender. I tried it rigging but the object is not attaching with the armature. What could be the problem ? Please provide solution for it.
I added amature and mesh as automatic weights in blender. then i made some poses in pose mode. but when i click somewhere else after selecting the mesh, the mesh comes into its initial position. how can i avoid that ?
I have a nice character rig. However, when I select, for example, the left foot control and move it, the right foot control moves in the same direction. This not a mesh issue. The legs and arms will twin when I move one side. I bend the right elbow control and the left elbow control will bend as well. How do I separate all of these controls so I can move one side of controls without the other side copying the same movement? Any help would be much appreciated.
Please help I might be missing something basic here.. I am weight painting a character mesh to It's skeleton in blender 4.0.2 but I have an issue where I can't select separate bones while in weight painting mode. To explain what I do; I start in Object mode, I select the skeleton first, then Shift select the character mesh, then I turn on Weight paint mode and the mesh shows the familiar weight painting colors. but my skeleton does not change to the green pastel color, it remains with the darker orange outline after going in weight paint mode. If I try to select any bones with Ctrl+Shift+Click, the bone will not be selected, but rather the entire skeleton gets de-selected.
My problem is the rig doesn't move the bones at all. If I select a bone, I can pose that limb, but if I select the metarig, nothing happens at all, just a thin line from the metarig moves or pivots, but the model and its bones do not move at all.
I cannot express my gratitude to you oh my gosh. I have been to every forum, every blender discord, I even fully recreated my entire model from scratch because the rig would not work and this was all I needed. Thank you so much, you seriously dont know how much this means to me, I was truly about to give up.

Only way I've found is to select the shape and change it in the Bone Properties tab, under Viewport Display -> Custom Shape
