The Spec V is super underrated. They pull hard and torque steer is super common. The biggest problem is they're not a lot of aftermarket parts and the wheel are a 4 lug bolt pattern but a 17 inch wheel.

The B16 Sentra Spec V is one of the most underrated cars of all-time. 14 second 1/4 mile car getting 32 plus miles per gallon on the highway. Lightweight has 4 doors and plenty of us have Beaten WRXs, Mazda’s, Civic SI’s etc either stock or full bolt ons with a tune. I ran a 2015 Civic SI last week and walked him. Saw him yesterday at the gas station. He said, dude that car is bad ass.
Fuckin right they’re underrated. Love my 2011. Funny how MotorTrend when testing the 8th gen si vs this the spec v was quicker to 60 by a tenth then looses 2 tenths by the quarter mile. I now know that’s complete horse shit cuz they’re stupidly even up top, with a very very tiny edge to the spec, but down low the spec is gone, anything under a 60 roll it’s getting left. No 8000rpm powerband is gonna make up for a 41 torque deficit.

Just to clarify, this is a GREAT car. Its literally a civic SI WITHOUT the honda tax. It (2007+) has 200hp, LSD, insane handling, NO stability control, and you can modify it to the moon and back. Mine has a cold air intake, headers, catback exhaust, pulley, and a tune. Plus coilovers, a tiny bit of weight reduction, & summer tires. This car was so stupidly cheap, only a tiny bit more than a regular shitbox sentra and literally a fraction of the price of a civic SI. Its pretty reliable and simple to fix as well. This car is criminally underrated.
This is what I’ve been saying for years, finally bought a 2011, fucking love it. And was 5200 cad were a si from 2011 would prob be at least 9 grand. @@aexiy id love to, there's a nice black altima se-r thats local to me. I have a 03 spec v and love it. Nice little ripper, but wouldn't mind picking up that se r altima
I had one of these. A 2002 spec V. The early years had some pretty detrimental issues with precats and butterfly screws. An after market header with no precat was recommended because bits of the catalyst was known to break and be sucked into the engine and score the cylinders. The butterfly screws in the intake manifold would work themselves lose and fall into the engine and score the cylinders. You had to put locktite on them to prevent this. This was fixed I think in 2004+. There were people swapping SR20det's and VQ35DE (Altima) into these. Then there is the mighty turbo VQ35 build as well.
I had a 2003 Spec V. Had 2 blown engines replaced under warranty because of pre-cat issues and butterfly screw. Had to take dealer to court the first time because the service manager said that I must have taken something and punched out the material in the pre-cat to get more HP. I won my lawsuit and they replaced the engine. 10 months later the replacement pre-cat failed (even with heat shield around it) and sucked honeycomb material into the engine. Butterfly screw also got sucked into engine. 3rd gear synchro also went out. Dealer replaced the engine and fixed the synchro. They also put on a Nismo exhaust for free because of the inconvenience. Soon as I got the 2nd replacement engine, I immediately put on an aftermarket header that didn’t have a pre-cat. Butterfly screws were also locktited. Never had an issue after that. It was a fun and torquey car once the issues got sorted out. I loved how it sounded when the VVT kicked in.
I don’t know I have a 2001 Sentra SER With 220,000 miles on it everything is original on it except the alternator obviously. I mean I take very good care of it and I have not had one problem besides regular maintenance
Had an 04 Spec V that also sucked in the cat material and several butterfly screws. Fortunately the block was good, Nissan replaced the head/loctited the butterfly screws and replaced the cat. I also replaced the exhaust mani/pre-cat with a header. Ran great after that. Header back exhaust, balance shaft removal kit and a cold air intake setup...And when those secondary intake runners opened up? DAAAAMMMMMMNNNN good sounding car i
Had a 08 Spec V and I have to admit it was the most fun car I've owned. I had a 90 240SX and a 98 Talon TSI and the Spec was by far the most fun. It was also really cool when people would ask questions not even realizing it was just a Sentra. The interior was pretty nice for it being a car from the bankruptcy era of almost everyone, but what sold me the most was how reliable the second gen QR was. I can't tell you how many top speed runs, redline shifts or hard take offs I had in that thing and it never blinked. With bolt ons it was pretty awesome to see 200-240HP at the wheels too. The only real downside is finding someone that knows how to tune them and certain years of the B14 were untunable unless you swapped out ECMs.
@@ManicsVideos yeah it's kinda hard to find a good example you find them for 15k-17k but it will have 150k+ miles or you can find the low miles one 100k mile or less for 25k-37k it still holding it's value not like the BMW M3
I daily drive a 6th gen spec v that i picked up for $2,300. There is a front subframe rust problem with these if you live in the midwest (mine is rusted) but other than that, for the money, I rate it 10/10. A reliable, fun car to drive from 2007 for under 3k? Hard to beat!
My dad used to let me steer his b13 thru the neighborhood as a kid. It got me into cars and my first car was a b12 coupe I have so much love for this car!
I have a 2012 SpecV that I autocross in the summer. Minimal mods to it and it can keep up with most of the more expensive cars out there. Pretty impressive for a car that has a rear torsion beam suspension 😳
@@yeoscore I have an 04 Spec V and 17 Nismo and imo, my 04 Spec V is way more fun to drive. It's smaller, lighter, more nimble, and comes with an lsd. 7th gens are okay if u get the Nismo model. The handling is decent but the power is just sorry smh
One thing about the 6th gen ser spec v you guys forgot to mention is the power bump to 200hp 187 tq and the redline was raised to 7k. 6th gen is a RIPPER for something you can pick up for under 7k. Majorly slept on unit
As a previous spec-v owner. They had a butterfly valve problem. The screws weren't secured properly and the engine would inhale them and die. This was a pretty huge deal. It had a really simple fix though. Just loctite them and you're done. Was a very fun car. Now I drive an Infiniti
I was just gonna say something about the butterfly screws!! Also another thing is to put a aftermarket header on it, so the pre cat doesn't inhale pieces into the motor, cut the balance shaft chain under the oil pan(or get the JWT BSR kit), add a lightweight underdrive pulley and get ready to have some fun on the streets with it😉
@@SnoopyRu1980 oh yeah definitely fun cars man. I had a full Borla exhaust on mine with lowering springs and an aftermarket sound system. Only good memories.
I have an spec v 04 Thanks for the video, I was waiting for someone to do a cool video about the car. Because if you know the car, you know what it can do.
Honestly the sentra platform as whole was just a killer sporty and reliable make. Had a Ser spec v as well as a GXE. Ser made it to 300k on original engine and trans before any major issues, the gxe is currently my daily and is at 450k. 1000/10 would recommend.
I bought one yesterday and its a bad Boy ❤ I love it 😍 cant wait to modify it you forgot to say tha it comes with Brembo kit 😘 and 6 gear M transmission 💯
A little known fact. Since the sentra with the 6spd manual in the spec v is the same transmission with a different bell housing, you can swap the sentra trans into the 07+ Altima V6 and 6th gen maxima that came with an open diff in the manual. You just need to swap the bell housing from the V6 Altima trans onto the sentra trans, and now you have lsd in your Altima or maxima.
I had a 2012 Spec V as my first car… loved it to bits. Was decently fast for a Sentra, and it was what I learned manual on. Ended up selling it cause it rusted through, but it was fun while I had it
I own a Yellow 2003 5th gen Sentra SE-R Spec V & 2002 SE-R Red, I like the taller gears in the 2003 models (35MPG), as opposed to the shorter gears in the 2002 Models (31MPG). I live 1hr from town down twisty mountain roads. :) and nothing makes that drive more enjoyable than a nice 5th Gen Chariot. My motto is I don't need to slow down for corners. and somehow i'm still alive. Well Done Nissan.
I drive an 03 spec V, 6 speed manual with LSD and i paid $1600, i put like 4 grand into her so far, suspension, upgrades, restoration, paint... but when she’s done, for the price i paid i don’t think i can compare, maybe a Honda Civic, but i like my b15 more than i did my ep3 Si
I started my channel when I had my 08 spec v. They really were something special. So much so that I’m trying to buy another one now to pair with my mustang!
I honest to god did not think you guys would do it. I thought there might not be enough videos or gallery posts to make it worth it but by golly y’all did it! The only thing I would’ve added is the butterfly valves thing since that can blow up the engine if the screws on that thing haven’t been checked but other than that, I’m glad y’all did it!
The 5th generation sentra was my first car in 2009, they called it the b15 (chassis code) but I loved that car, it was super reliable and just fun enough for a late night drive or car meets, I drove I for 10 years and 150k miles. Had tons of aftermarket support, even a turbo kit lol I want another for a collection eventually
Just be warned about the PreCat failure that these things suffered from. the Cat would fall apart on the engine side and back pressure from the header would pull the bits back into the engine causing significant damage to the engine.
YES, THANK YOU! best first mods for these are headers and a catback for that reason, I did mine with a flowmaster flowfx and it sounds throaty and mean.
The same issue plagued the Nissan Altima with the QR25DE engine, my mom had bought a 2002 Altima and it had the same exact problem the Sentra’s of the era had
I used to have an 02 spec v. It was an absolute blast, the gears are super short and that lsd makes it a blast around the corners. Hmm. *checks prices*
I had a couple friends who had b13/b14 Sentra/200sx, NX2000.. some pretty good builds they got out of those. especially the aftermarket turbo'd SR20de's and VVL SR20VE's swaps.
I owned a 2010 ser for about a year and a half. Didn't do much to it, just springs, intake, exhaust & front lip. Had some cool features, reliable, sounded surprisingly great. I'll link a video I made of the car in the response. Great starter car. Thumbs up from me 👍🏼
I used to have an 03 Spec V. I loved that thing, and a bit on the torque-y side. The only downfall if you don't know about these is the Pre-cat failure and the infamous butterfly screw
I had a blacked out 2003 SER SPEC-V and my kids and i absolutely LOVED it. I would buy another one in a heartbeat if i could find one that wasn’t beat on, and due to a few mechanical issues from the factory it makes it hard to trust a stock engine at its current age.
I have a B16 Spec V (2008) and I've had it for 5 years now. I've never regretted it being my first car. I cherish this thing and I have easily smoked Civic SI's and WRX's on highways. It's an absolute beast, but it has very little performance aftermarket support. I can't even find sway bars for it. The lack of aftermarket support is the only con I have about owning this car. Other than that, it's been amazing and I get a rush every time I'm downshifting and driving hard. She handles it like it's nothing.
So I’m NOT the only one who finds it weird that everyone ignores this car. It’s kinda funny because I stumbled across a 6th Gen Spec V, just trying to find a daily driver that wasn’t....anemic, really. I come across this car at a certified used dealer and the car was SO ignored that it was actually about to be sent to auction in a couple days and I had to point out the car do the dealer from a listing. But lemmie tell ya: the call is SUPER fun! Wish more people knew about it, really. I do agree: Gen 5 was the better generation, but this Gen 6 has been nothing but good to me.
I somehow had acquired and se-r through a random customer at work and after a couple years a friend had convinced me trade it in for a bigger car more reliable because I had kids. I was really sad because my “black beauty” was by for my most favorite car. Now that my kids are older I want that car back and didn’t realize what a gem I had so now I’m on a hunt for a spec v.
Had an 07 white 6th gen spec-v, got it with about 89k mile for ~$13k, drove it for 5ish years and took the mileage to 120k. Biggest issues with the car: 1. The exhaust manifold was a 4-2-1, and had two catalytic converters. Two large cats sitting just between the 4 and 1 sections on each side. What's the fuss? Well those big ol cats weighed a lot and would eventually crack the welds on the manifold, making the car fail an emissions test and sound straight piped. After i replaced the cracked OEM manifold with yet another OEM manifold which also eventually cracked, i just put on a megan racing catless manifold and fixed that PITA. 2. The knock sensor on these cars was WAY too sensitive and would constantly read false knock events, which would cause the ECU to pull timing. Annoying enough as is, but the way the ECU would pull timing wasn't just a flat continuous timing retard, it was like a sporadic juttery timing retard that would come in and go, giving you the impression that you're running out of gas. Maybe just my car but it SUCKED. 3. The shifter on this car felt like a plastic Fischer Price clunky piece of CRAP and i hated it. Great car.
I love seeing videos on my sentra! I have a 2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V in the sunburst yellow 😍 its a beautiful little car and its very fun even stock. Ive been looking at this 2Jracing website that sells a turbo kit for it for $3,000 and it makes the car even MORE fun! Its also a 6 speed 😂

Back when Nissan had defected catalytic converters on some vehicles.
DAAAAMMMMMMNNNN good sounding car i
Used to own an 08 spec v, one of the more enjoyable 4 bangers I've ever owned

Well u went from a 150hp compact economy sedan to a 300hp mid size luxury sedan, I’d hope you like the is better lmao.

One thing about the 6th gen ser spec v you guys forgot to mention is the power bump to 200hp 187 tq and the redline was raised to 7k. 6th gen is a RIPPER for something you can pick up for under 7k. Majorly slept on unit
Quicker then the same era civic si, plus its about 5 grand cheaper. Y I bought one.
@@slowspecv69 exactly brooo I love my spec v. I give v6 mustangs and chargers gabblesauce all the time.
YOOOO THEY FINALLY MADE IT
As a previous spec-v owner.

My God... your stories brings me back to the good old days. I love it. 🙏
Love my 2011 Spec V. Surprises lots of other drivers on the road. Faster than ya think. 💪
I’ve got the same year spec v aswell
You could also swap the v6 from the Altima, Maxima, and the Quest into the Sentra too...it mounts sideways.
So not into the2005 v6 Altima? I literally have both cars
@@JLE1177 you would need a trans from the b15 I believe
I had one, loved it for a long time. Still miss it from time to time.

Yes also about the alternator that can burn up cause its so close to the headers.

My brother had 2011 SE-R SpecV but a tree fell on it and had to be totaled :’(
Had an 07 white 6th gen spec-v, got it with about 89k mile for ~$13k, drove it for 5ish years and took the mileage to 120k.
Biggest issues with the car:
Great car.
