How to change Oil on your Honda Outboard

- After surfing RUclips I noticed there are not alot of informational videos about the Honda 200 HP Outboard. My Honda is a 2017 BF200 4stroke. Simple maintenance will keep your outboard running strong and for years to come. Changing oil is one of the most important maintenance projects on an outboard. This video should help if you've not changed oil before. You don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on a project that won't take very long and is very simple to perform.

I made a ramp for the oil drain. Take an old license plate and bend it into a C shape long ways. It will rest right under the drain and let it run into a 5 gallon bucket. Much less mess than here. A piece of sheet metal would work too. Love my Honda
That's a sweet idea, My Honda has been good to me, in 5 years Ive only had to replace to the fuel pump
That's an awesome boat buddy!! I loved fishing out of it!!
I had a great time!!
Great job Cody! That’s a beautiful boat brother! I enjoyed it! 🙂👏👏👏👍
I really like that Kingfisher....by far the best boat I've owned. I don't think I'll ever own another brand. Thank you for checking it out sir! Happy 4th!!
Great step by step. Have a good week.
Right back at ya sir! Really appreciate ya!!
Great video Cody! If I can make 2 suggestions I would say this,
1. Go to a parts Store or order what's called a Paint Pen. This will become a staple in your Tool box. What it's used for is writing on the oil filters, (of anything you change oil in) pertinent information that is important for the next guy to know. God forbid anything bad ever happens to our records of service work of course, but this will have key information on the filter for the next oil change. I like to write down just the date, hours at time of service, and miles at time of service if applicable.
2. Use the blue shop towels as these are lint free.
The issue with lint in motors is something that's rarely talked about but it's important because the very small oil ways and galleries in the engine can over time build up with lint, thus blocking that gallery and starting a small heat rise and lack of lubrication. Of course it takes time to wreck things this way but it is a very important thing so the guy who next owns it doesn't end up having to rebuild it before the alloted time that engine should run.
Just a couple thoughts, if they help you great if not oh well! Stay safe and stay outdoors!
When I worked on the railroad we used those yellow marking pencils to write on filters all the time! I hadn't thought of that. These past two years unfortunately I don't get the normal hours I put on my boat. The blue shop towels is a great idea as well. They are a much better option! Appreciate you watching and for your input sir!
Never heard of a hand pump for oil. Good tutorial.
It could be so much easier!!
@@After5Outdoors I believe it. I think they're designed that way on purpose, so you do have to take motors in for service.
Yup, more money they can make!!
Seen a boat the other day with an After 5 Outdoors sticker on it . Pretty cool 👍
Really? Where was that at??

Awesome!!
It also is important to trim your engine all the way down to eliminate the spill. I just noticed that as well
Good video. A lot cheaper to change your own oil on a boat.
lf l ever get one of those, l will know how to clean it out now...take care ad stay safe
Thank you as always!
I wish I had a big beautiful Honda to change the oil on.
You most certainly can!!!! Overtime Rachel 😁😁
I'm going to try that ziploc trick on my Honda side by side & see if it helps. Thanks!
Super effective method!
If you turn your engine over to the starboard side of the boat, the engine angles to the side it’s turned to. Which will eliminate the mess altogether. You have the engine turned away from that side. I have the same engine BTW
With it turned to the starboard side it limits your ability to get at the plug
You don’t need to crank it all the way over. Just until the engine starts to tilt. Your engine is leaning port side. You’ll also have to trim down all the way too. It will eliminate the mess all over the bottom of the engine.
Would ya just look at that!
Figured you'd get a charge out of that!!
