LAPD Cites Minibike Riders for Open Container Violations at Venice Beach, No Impounds Made

- Venice Beach, CA - On Sunday, May 5, 2024, Los Angeles Police Department officers cited two individuals for violating the open container ordinance while they were taking a break from riding mini bikes at Venice Beach. Around a dozen minibike riders were seen navigating the Venice Beach Boardwalk during the incident.
The citations were issued in accordance with California Business and Professions Code 25620, which classifies having an open alcohol container in a public area as an infraction.
Although minibikes are considered illegal due to their lack of registration and license plates, no citations were issued for the unregistered vehicles, nor were any minibikes impounded during the enforcement.
Local residents and visitors at Venice Beach expressed mixed reactions to the presence of minibikes on the boardwalk. Some found the riders' activities entertaining, while others voiced concerns over safety and compliance with local regulations. The open container enforcement appears to align with broader efforts to promote a safe environment for all beachgoers.

"We were just drinking in public , we're not bothering anyone..." as he's sitting on a device thats creating explosions multiple times per second and broadcasts them through an unmuffled pipe. They don't even know what it means or why to be considerate of other people. Which is why they don't understand the police, and why they end up disliking them. If someone drove mini bikes down there back in the 1990's they would confiscate the minibikes and write tickets for operating unlicensed vehicles
I got caught riding a dirt bike on the street back in the 80's in California and they made me walk it home THREE MILES while they followed me. And I got a ticket. He said next time they would confiscate the bike. That's how it should be done! I never did it again.
@@CarsandCats That's for sure, that's what happened to me, we used to have a neighborhood dirt bike and BMX track that was on someone's private land a couple blocks down the street, The police officers couldn't do anything about people riding on the track, but they would hide out and catch people riding to the track. They eventually built houses on half the property and there is a homeless village on the other half where they start fires all the time.

@@CarsandCats And there was another vacant piece of land that was a few miles away in our town that is about 2 square miles in size. They used to have a giant dirt bike and off road vehicle track park there along with an RC model airplane landing strip. They made it into a no motor vehicle nature preserve about 20 years ago where they have a mountain bike course and hiking trails, Now they have grass fires there every year, which never hardly happened before because the off road vehicle roads would act as fire breaks and the fire trucks could drive out there easily. Now the grass is 6 feet high.
I got a ticket for riding a mini bike on a dirt road, a ticket for no helmet on a bicycle also a ticket for giving someone a pump “a ride on the pegs or handlebars” these kids get away with every fuqing thing.
I stopped riding minibikes when I was 12.
This is what happens when there is affirmation action. These officers should have immediately called for more backup? Round up all these anarchists on these illegal scooters and arrest everyone of them. They are all thugs. Shame you on you LAPD.

When I was in high school or younger I had one of these and got a ticket for riding on a dirt road. Sad how careless the system has become. But when someone gets killed or hurt on one and they sue the city it’s the people paying for it so honestly why would care.

Totally illegal for several reasons: it’s considered a motor vehicle under CA law, not registered, the one idiot burning rubber is committing exhibition of speed in front of the officers which is a misdemeanor in their presence. I guess the LAPD doesn’t care at this point since LA is a lost cause! Glad I left when I did. Total anarchy in LA!

The law doesn't say that at all. The law says that you can't drive while you're impaired. You're not allowed to drink and drive at the same time and you're not allowed to drink too much and then drive

Open container seems to be their only concern. I suppose the beach cops have a list of priorities that affect the beach scene and don't stray far outside of it.
