- Carp Fishing | The Art Of Single Hook Bait Fishing | Matt Eaton
Team member, Matt Eaton is no stranger to catching big carp using single hook baits. We took the opportunity to sit down with Matt and asked him to shine a light on everything from the colour of favourite hook baits through to his most successful rigs when using this method.

Love these films. Keep em coming. Singles fishing is very underrated these days almost a forgotten tactic.
Thanks!
Great video. Fantastic detail. Excellent all round production. Thanks 🙏
I witnessed a 30 pounder caught on this very method on Orchid some years back. A killing method at the right time of year. Brilliant watch.
Thanks Iain and we're glad you enjoyed it!
It works at the right time on most venues Iain. Seeing one caught on it should give you the confidence to give it a go. Good luck.
The linear Fish what you had in March was a stunner
Thanks Chris!
It was a special one but is, unfortunately, no longer around. There's a very similar, younger one that's taken its place which I may have a go for at some stage.
Also a great tactic when barbel fishing on rivers with low stock. Good watch, hope you’re keeping well Matt.
Thanks Steve!
That's interesting Steve. A lone piece of luncheon meat used to catch barbel so I suppose a single boilie in the river would be exactly the same.
Great info mates...will this technique work on wild carp in a river?
California country Park, I fished that when I was 13 to the age of 17 I’m now 62 I’ll cut my teeth on that water, first carp I ever landed
Great podcast, very thought provoking.
Thanks Martin and we're glad you enjoyed it!
It was my first serious carp venue too Martin. I loved it on there. It was a superb water on which to learn the craft. Tight lines.
Great insight I am very tight with my bait so I regularly cast single hook baits out and catch this way I would say 90 percent of my fishing on like this.and I thought it was just me who fished this style 😂❤ great video Gardner Tackle ❤
Good fish mr.. 👍
The interviewer really sounds like Jim Davison. Great vid!
Thanks Steve. It's a shame he isn't quite as funny eh?
😆
A Q and A with nigel sharp and Dave lane is what I would like and ask your viewers what questions they would like .....you have 2 of the best anglers in the land onboard now 👍
Love the content but please remember to speak into the mic, sound levels were uneven between speakers. Some sound deadening in the room might also help with the acoustics. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks for your feedback
Would love to hear Matt's thoughts on fishing singles in murky/coloured water. I have had good success on a (blue dyed) clay pit using small pva sticks and a bottom bait with no extra feed but cannot seem to get a bite on a bright (or dull) popup. Singles really appeal to me as a 'roving' style angler so it would be great to get some tips from the master. Thanks for the amazing content.
Thanks for your comment Alex and a very good question. It might be time for us to do a Q&A vid with Matt and if we do, we will try and cover this question.
Awsome video, I use this tactic for a couple of years now and with awsome results. I must say I am a bit scared to use this method in the dark :)
Thanks Arno and we're glad you enjoyed it!
Although I've caught more in daylight it has worked during the night Arno. Fishing this way through the night means I've got the best chance at first light, when it is at its best. Good luck.
@@matteaton7427 I find singles ideal at night time. You arnt tied to a baited area you can just cast to showing fish
Great watch, my question would be, have you had much success using single darker coloured baits? The lake I fish has such an abundance of bird life that bright colours just become agg (other than at night). I've tried single darker baits on the lake in question but do lose confidence as a result and alas it hasn't worked for me yet.
Thanks for your question and we're glad you enjoyed the video.
Hi
Although I prefer a bright one I've caught plenty on dull single hook baits. It might be worth adding a bit of extra smell to boost attraction. Rather than use a glug I mix up a little pot of all the neat attractors and just coat them. After a few days it'll soak in leaving them boosted.
@@matteaton7427 thanks for the reply Matt, appreciate the advice. I'll have a look at some of the neat attractors and give this a go 👍
@@hobbyaddict4928 Although neat flavour will form part of the extra attraction something like Multi-stim is really good to add. Good luck.
I'm terrified of single hook bait fishing. Which is why I'm going to try it. I've never once had success with it.
I fish at rather big lake where the carp have no pressure at all. I feel like my success is completely determined by me having baited my areas over a long period. I want to go out. See where they are somewhere else. And get on them.
Single zig bit of foam catches loads so no difference on the bottom voice for radio James new Terry wogan stay safe 😉
Like you have said, Zigs catch loads. Thanks for the comment and we will let James know.
Precisely Tony. I'm sure we've all caught on singles at one time or another but most aren't confident unless they're fishing over bait.
When you do fishing in weed can you go over how you'd fish in filamentous algea
Thanks for your comment and that's a very good question.
