In regard to “Attack of the Attackers”, I asked John Romero, co-creator of Id Software and DOOM - he doesn’t remember this. He also has a photographic memory - hyperthymesia - one of 60 people in the world, as well as an accurate track record recalling the past. The DOOM wiki is likely wrong on this one!

0:52 This is incorrect as the first 3 episodes were available in 1993, the first one as a free shareware. Only 1 episode (the fourth) was added in 1995 under Ultimate Doom. This also implies that the sequel was released before the first version.
I showed Doom Eternal to my dad and when he heard the music he said, "The music is for sure one of the main reasons you play this isnt it?" and he was right.
Nah, games had game engines back in the 80's. For example, I had game constructon kits for DOS. Besides before Doom all us kids were playing "Wolfenstein 3D" - aka the _original_ Doom game... Fun fact, Doom was a massive 40Mb and used 6 double sided floppy disks! 😮😮
Fun Fact: Chex Quest which is a Doom Clone version uses the same Game Engine id Tech 1. And it was free on cereal of Chex. Developed by Digital Cafe, while the director finish this game while he was studying Highschool.
I played the original Doom a couple of years ago and it still maintains its charm. Regarding Doom 3, I remember when I saw the demo in the late 2002 I thought "it's starting another era". It was incredible.
The scariest part about the shooting is that the people would make custom levels for doom and would practice there. One of the kids made an exact replica of their school with real humans you could shoot. It's something that I think was over looked to fully understand.
I never realized that with every game and different title Doomguy is slowly fighting off the horde of demons up until DOOM Eternal, where he finally wins against it.
There’s two interesting things that weren’t mentioned in this video, in an interview with John Romero, the OG Doom was given to stores for free and they could keep all the profits from it so it wouldn’t get removed from store shelves due to it’s high level of gore, and because of that, it became a huge success. Plus, Mick Gorden used a lawnmower in the soundtrack for DOOM (2016).
I remember playing Doom as a kid, I played "Ultimate Doom", "Doom 2" and plenty of Doom wads, I also remember spamming cheat codes just for fun and how satisfying the BFG 9000 is. My Dad likes it, probably because of how it's made, My mom dislikes it for being too bloody and gorey. Even my middle brother played Doom. I used to play it on Doom 95, now I play it on ZDoom. Nowadays I get to know more about the game and how it was made, I assumed the plot is about a human saving Earth from monsters. John Carmack was kind of wrong about plots and all that stuff, because I get more excited in plots and lore more than gameplay.
You’re not wrong about part of the plot of doom with the whole “save earth from the demons” type thing but it goes far deeper now that doom 2016 and doom eternal deepened the lore of the game, to put it shortly in doom 1,2 and 64 doomguy was your average really pissed off pumped on rage super space marine, but after he finished the events of doom 64 he was found by the sentinel’s (basically space Spartans) when the drug doomguy in, in his old beat up marine suit they wanted to test his mettle and in a cutscene in doom eternal it shows his past of how he fought and continued to eradicate his opponents despite his devastating injuries, after he was healed he was trained and kept as a secret weapon and made a name for himself among the sentinel army, and they gave him a new name..the doom slayer, they realized his utter hatred for the demons and relentlessness against them in battle and then the gods cut in with him by giving him immense power (the guy who gave doomguy the power was named the seraphim) by putting him in this machine called “the divinity machine” from this point on doomguys name is no longer named “doomguy” he’s now the “doom slayer” as the machine made him a unstoppable force of nature that made even the mightiest of demons *FEAR* him, he now had godly strength and speed, combine that with the unrelenting controlled rage in battle and this man could kill anything by himself in a matter of seconds, he became one of the highest ranks in the sentinel army (I believe) which is a night sentinel under king novik’s orders, another fact here too is that when the doom slayer was fighting he would yell “RIP AND TEAR!!” Which then became a chant among the sentinels in Argentian language by yelling “KAR EN TUK!!” so yeah that’s how doomguy became the doom slayer an unrelenting force of nature that cannot be stopped EVEN by the gods themselves….but youll have to play the dlc of doom eternal to understand what I mean ;)
