      Chris M that would be nice, but the fast recoveries, and super jump, would have to be incorporated in the game. Then again Kyosuke was in CVS2, and still played the classic quintessential way without the super jump, or quick recoveries. So it can actually happen.

She would finally see the light of day in Rival Schools. You can see her Street Fighter III concept art in the All About Street Fighter III book from Japan

    *This is very random/small but I love how on the PS1 version, they had different now loading screens. Some now loading screens were movesets of characters & others were artwork. Each verison had 50 different now loading screens. I go crazy over things like that!!*

    • @videoguy6966
      @videoguy6966 5 лет назад +12

      That is actually a very good point. Resident Evil's loading screens where a door opening and that became iconic. A loading screen with concept art or move sets is much more appreciated. I also liked how the game had an Arcade Disc and an Evolution Disc with that disc allowing to unlock 24 characters.

    • @davidhale9730
      @davidhale9730 5 лет назад +6

      I love all that type of stuff. Sometimes I can actually appreciate the cool menus and loading screens, with all their beautiful artwork, a lot more than the game itself!
      I guess it just brings back fond memories of all the excitement I always felt when visiting the arcade. I wasn't even that bothered about getting to play, just getting to watch all the fantastic intro demos and animations on all the cabinets was more than enough entertainment for me!

    Rival schools! Such an overlooked gem. One of the few games where it didn't matter how it look graphically but how fun exciting and crazy the fighting truly was! Graphically It got better with DC but it's still such a shame Capcom hasn't done anything with this title since kyosuke in Capcom vs SNK 2, or Namco X Capcom RPG.

      I think this game was largely ignored because of the other 3d fighters out at the time. Anime was starting to become less appealing to the mainstream at the time for the kids turned teenagers who knew Street Fighter, and this game is very much an anime game. It's a shame because I absolutely loved this game. It's still one of my favorite fighters from Capcom. I never knew there was a dating Sim in the original though. I'd totally buy this and the sequel if they were ever released.

    • @LowellLucasJr.
      @LowellLucasJr. 5 лет назад +7

      @@everettedl Nah....what really did was the overfluctuaion of fighting game titles. Guilty Gear would come out around this time and garnered a huge fan following thanks to its anime aesthetic. Aside from that, fans of Capcom were aware of this title at the time( myself included) and loved the zany & awesome gameplay. Luckily it garnered enough attention to have mangas in Japan & get the DC sequel. Other Capcom hits suffered as well like Cyberbots, Tech Romancer, and Power Stone to a degree.

    I've always loved Rival Schools & I really don't understand how this IP hasn't been adapted into anime at all (I know there was an Udon comic released but it's not quite the same as seeing them animated) since it's absolutely perfect for the shonen genre with the various teen characters & the issues they all individually deal with along their journey.
    Even if they literally copied the storyline from the game into episodes they could get a full 12 or 13 episode season out of it, maybe 2 if they wanted to actually focus on character development & world building since there's actually a lot going on when you play through the game as different schools. And that's not even including any of the elements from the second game!
    It would be really cool if each episode followed the perspective of each schools' characters & then they all came together towards the end or for the season finale to take down Raizo & Hyo. At this point I'd even be satisfied with a remake done with updated 3D graphics & proper animated cut scenes...

Considering Capcom pulled REALLY deep in lore to have Lucia feature in the latest season of SFV, you’d think they’d let one of these fighters “graduate” to a proper Street Fighter!

    Top Hat Gaming Man you are awesome! You posted this video right before my lunch and now I get to enjoy it fully. I am so excited. Rival Schools is my second favorite fighting game with King of Fighters: Maximum Impact being my first. I always wished there could have been a Street Fighter EX/Rival Schools crossover game. The story could be simple. Shadaloo is trying to recruit kids with special abilities straight out of highschool. Each STE character can be paired with a RS character like a master and pupil. You wouldn't be tied to using a paired set of characters but if you did use predetermined pair the RS character can inherit SFE characters ability like if they are learning. Let's say if Guile's assigned pupil is Kyosuke Kagami then what ever special move you are using the most with Guile then Kyosuke can perform that same move during that match (example-if using Sonic Boom with Guile more then Kyosuke can do Sonic Boom during that match). Well wishful thinking I guess. At least we have Sakura in both game series.

    Wouldn't mind seeing Virtua Fighter 2 covered...the principal reason I am a VF fan. But yeah, definitely need to cover Project Justice for the DC on here. After loving RS for the PS1, Project Justice was one of the games that made me preorder a Dreamcast (the others being Soul Calibur, Dead or Alive 2 and Virtua Fighter 3tb on the fighting game front). And IMO, Project Justice is by far the better-looking game of the two. Pretty costly these days, though.
    Ideally, I'd love to see Capcom do a remastered version of the two games for current or next gen systems. Don't think it will happen, though.

    This was my first PS1 game. Lots of good memories of playing till the end and showing my friends the evolution disc, with a lot of fun mini games in it. Thanks for the great video, Top Hat Gaming Man. Hope we can see Project Justice in the near future. Be well, mate!

    If its so popular then why is Rival schools forgotten now? The only thing left being Batsu's appearances in Project X Zone.

      I don't think it was particularly popular hence why copies are so expensive now.

      Something that is not said about the game is that at the time it getting alot of flack from players who preferred third strike and tekken.Also there was a bit of a uproar at the convention jam back at the time because rival schools beat out street fighter 2nd impact.I remember someone even saying rival schools didn't belong there and its spot should've went to battle arena toshinden or bloody roar.The hate was real back then:(

    I remember being a teenager walking into a GameStop (Electronics Boutique back then) and seeing people playing this game when it first came out. I saw one round of this game with Shoma (my favorite character) knocking another player across the screen with a baseball bat. I bought the game immediately and we used to play this in my dorm at college all the time. I actually still have this game.

    This series is one of those games that I've literally never actually seen. I've seen the characters in other games, the references etc, but I never have interacted with Rival Schools itself... Speaking of which T.H.G.M, can you cover and do a full series on all the TMNT games? including the arcade, Turtles in Time and the fighting game on SNES?

  • @GrayFoxRJ

    The biggest crime was never localizing the Visual Novel instances of both Rival Schools and Project Justice because they ARE core elements of the home releases. It was Capcom trying its hand on the successful recipe that made Sakura Wars hugely popular.
    Create a engaging story, with character creation and interesting minigames. And FAR from being solely a "dating sim" that no one cares about, the whole story and character development were there in this mode, a full story mode from the perspective of a character you created. So, saying that "who needs a dating sim anyway" is tossing away something way bigger than simply hooking up with the characters. If people praise Mortal Kombat story mode these days, it is idiotic to criticize RS story mode, just because it was conveyed through visual novel instead of videos.
    I STILL TO THIS VERY DAY WAIT FOR SOME GOOD SOUL TO TRANSLATE BOTH games' japanese versions to ENGLISH
    Project Justice board game was simply amazing

    I know it's probably not a popular series or even worth talking about, but Have you ever heard of the Slam Masters games by Capcom? There was Saturday Night Slam Master, Slam Masters 2 Ring of Destruction, and Muscle Bombers Duo Ultimate Battle. Muscle Bomber Duo being a more enhanced version of the first Slam Masters that focuses more on 2 vs 2 battles and adds more specials and other changes. Mike Haggar from Final Fight is also a playable character in the games. I'd say give it a look at if you haven't already!
