    I LOVE how this game looks. The Capcom characters don't look like Capcom characters copy/pasted into this game - the entire game looks 100% like an SNK Fighting Game.

      Yeah, snk characters on capcom vs snk have rough edges unlike capcom characters. More effort were given to capcom character designs. For svc chaos, both sides are gorgeus, heck, they even made capcom characters looked better. Though cvs will always have the awesome background and sprites.

    SNK's death and rebirth clearly shows that sometimes, maybe a lot of the time, the employees and owners aren't the reason companies crumble. But the high management who're more worried about filling their pockets by selling the company than making the company work as they were hired to.

    This game was so ahead of it's time. The atmosphere of this game and how dark it feels is incredible. Playing it still invokes a feeling of impending doom and dread, with every encounter reeking of desperation and a fight to the death feel.

      Ive always thought SNK had some kind of Story Mode around for SNK and Capcom characters in this game but due its rush in releasing it was lost... Id love to know that story in some sort of future destroyed Earth, knowing SNK mayber had something to do with Orochi winning

      "Ahead of it's time" is so misused and over used. This game used pretty much the same fight system from KOF 2002 but in 2003. How is that ahead of its time? SVC Chaos looked and felt outdated when it was released. It was stiff, sluggish and slow. It was poorly received because of it. Compared to Capcom Vs SNK 2 which was released in 2001 with a fight system that feels smooth, fast and crisp and it still feels that way now. SVC Chaos gets worse with age.

    • @elohym876

      @Sentinel 88 Sure, just ignore the entirety of what I wrote about the atmosphere of the game and point out something I never addressed, the fighting system. You just wanted an excuse to say, "ahead of its time", is misused and overused it seems. This game has a unique atmosphere (not fighting system).

    • @R-1988
      @R-1988 2 года назад +1

      @@elohym876 Fighting games aren't judged by "atmosphere" They are judged by the mechanics and there is nothing in its atmosphere that was "ahead of its time" as the sprites and backgrounds looked dated when it was released. "feeling of impending doom and dread" "it feels dark" all of this was done better by the Guilty Gear series on PS ONE with much better graphics and an inferior fight system. That game had visuals that were much higher in resolution for its time and no called it "ahead of its time"

    Love how Demetri got a complete re-draw and not just pasted from Darkstalkers. What makes this game awesome is how the Capcom characters got the SNK touch - and we know, snk has a way of making their characters look menacing

  • @javierortiz82
    @javierortiz82 5 лет назад +93

    SNK was very respectful with the way they treated Capcom's IP, the sprites are beautiful, specially Chun Li's, who is very stylish in this game. This was the last time we had a Ryu that looked like a proportionate human instead of a giantism patient made of 400 kg of muscle and a head the size of a pea.
    Funny enough, the worst sprites in the game are Athena's, who looks as if she came from an atari 2600 game, with no shades at all, just plain white color and yellow eyes. The scenarios were very bland, boring and lifeless, which is a shame coming from the same people that made the scenarios of the fantastic Garou Mark Of The Wolves.
    The gameplay however was a bit stiff, just as in Capcom Vs SNK, which is a result, I think, of the difficulty of balancing the signature gameplay quirks of each company. The frantic and pressure focused style of KOF would've destroyed the Capcom characters that are designed for a more deliberate ground control, so SNK had to tone down the agility of the combat to please the Street Fighter fans while preserving their identity.
    It's a comendable effort and hopefully we will see a new Capcom vs SNK in the near future, considering both companies are currently on a great roll.

    • @Scrubermensch
      @Scrubermensch 5 лет назад +2

      I disagree with the stiff gameplay part. It is not due balance, cause the Alpha series(mainly the third installment of the series) being as much or even more complex and pressure based as any KOF game.
      This masterpiece would've been the pinnacle of fighting game, if it was made by 96~98 SNK...

    • @chronology556
      @chronology556 4 года назад +3

      Luis Debnath it would have been interesting if Ryu and Ken and their Street Fighter ilk could roll, run, and hop, hyper hop, and super jump as a real ADV KOF’98 gameplay speed. Capcom vs SNK 2 did an okay job with giving SNK characters, Capcom type Street Fighter gameplay, but the medium attacks of SNK characters (strong, forward) lacked a lot of combo ability. They were just pokes.

Getting your foot in the door as a content creator in an ocean full of content creators, it's next to impossible to garner an audience. I would say about 95% of people don't want to support a channel that has fewer than 20k subs. No one wants to actually be there in the beginning, but everyone wants to claim they were there...

    Serious Mr. Karate is actually canon. The first time Takuma used the Mr. Karate alias was when he was being blackmailed by Geese Howard and forced to work as his enforcer. He did so using the Mr. Karate alias, and was the last boss of the first Art of Fighting. The persona became more of a joke after he was defeated and freed from Geese. So the (regular) final boss for SNK's side of SVC Chaos was basically AoF1's final boss (who was NOTORIOUSLY hard).

Paying the equivalent of a few hundred US dollars for a brand new game makes a lot more sense than a few thousand if you can get away with it.
      To be honest though, even as an American who grew up with Street Fighter Alpha, 3, Darkstalkers, and MvC2, I honestly nowadays just find SNK's fighters to be more fun. Real Bout 2, Garou, and KoF 2002 are really something special.

Seeing Capcom characters in that classic SNK pixel style is something I feel gets overlooked a lot. It's significant both from an artistic perspective and as part of the history of the industry. There isn't another instance where Capcom let its characters be reinterpreted in that way outside of Tekken Vs. Street fighter (not Street Fighter X Tekken), but of course that never ended up coming out. Actually the Grand Front Step, Gaurd Blowback and Hard Knockdown Throw don't consume a full bar of meter. Its actually something like 1/8th of meter.
    Also the game has a Cancel mechanic as well, but it can only be done when the power meter reaches "Maximum". You can cancel specials into other specials or specials into supers.
    HK+LP or forward+forward on block is the Grand Front Step
    LP+LK or HP+HK are the Hard Knockdown Throw
    LP+LK when normal thrown before you hit the ground is air recovery
    HP+HK on block is the Gaurd Blowback and works like a CD attack in KOF but doesn't do any damage

    The art and roster of SVC Chaos were outstanding. I thought the sprites looked WAY better than the CVS titles. A shame the game wasn't more popular, but that's probably heavily influenced by the actual mechanics not being fantastic. I was personally especially fond of Serious Mr. Karate, and I loved the inclusion of Dimitri, Tessa, and Zero.

    I was so hyped for this game. Made it in top 100 in ranked on XBL. So many people cheated at high rank in that game. It was pointless to try to get higher. It would be some dude yelling a language I don't understand with lag for days. Also people hacked the game timer to 5 secs and spam fire balls. Also infinity supers. Still one of my fav game achievements of all time. I loved the sprites and music. Hope for a part 2.

    This is one of my favorite videos of yours so far. I LOVE SVC CHAOS! The only reason why I didn't play this one as much as the Capcom versus games is because I didn't have an XBOX. I still bought the game, and would borrow my brother's XBOX just to play it (and was seriously annoyed that it wasn't one of the XB games compatible with the 360). I wish this game would get a PS4/XB1 re-release in an era ahem we're more accepting of 2D games again.
    SVC Chaos is broken as hell, in terms of balance, but so are MvC2 and SF3 3S, and those are considered classics with the top tier characters being nearly untouchable by the rest of the cast. Geese and Zero are annoyingly overpowered in this game, but many characters like Chun-Li, Guile, Demetri and Iori are a blast to play. This game definitely deserves another chance. Or, even better, a sequel with King of Fighters XIII-level graphics.

    I remember seeing this for the Xbox in blockbuster when I was around 9. I didn't have one at the time but I had both CVS games and knew that I needed this one.
    10 years later I remembered it that fateful day and rushed out and bought a copy and an Xbox. I was a little bit disappointed. The atmosphere was bland and nowhere near as exciting as the OG CVS titles. In more recent years I've come to appreciate it for what it was. I definitely liked the inclusion of Firebrand and MMZero. Definitely glad you covered this one. I was exited to learn more!

      Mr. Karate was intended to be an insult to ryu, From the game creator of snk. So capcom fired back with dan. The joke is that ryu(mr.karate) is Ryo's dad, to be defeated by Ryo in art of fighting 2. The creator of ryu was a guy who left the streetfighter 2 team to form snk.

    Fun Fact: Some of the SNK character sprites created for this game, including Genjuro, Shiki, Athena, and Mars People, would go on to be featured in Neo Geo Battle Colosseum.
    If there's one gaming wish I could have granted, it would be to have a brand new Capcom and SNK fighting collaboration. I'd even ask for both Felicia and Cham Cham to be on the roster, but perhaps that's just asking for too many miracles at once! ;)

    Ironically this game got be back into 2D fighters on a hardcore level, back in 2003. More so because it was the newest game in the arcade at the time, and everyone was playing. It also got me deeper into the KOF series. Before then I had only played '95 on the PS1.

    I was in Akihabara in 2018, and I bought a Japanese PS2 just so I can play this game again. It's a shame SNK doesn't seem interested in re-releasing it. They could fix a few things while they port if over, and maybe slap a couple new character in while they are at it... easy. (Evil Ryu and Shadow Lady and well... anyone from KOF really. Ash Crimson and Kusanagi?)

    SNK vs Capcom looks better than Capcom vs SNK 2 imo, because the fighters AND backgrounds are made of sprites and parallax layers and everything has the same resolution, unlike in Capcom vs SNK 2. I overall prefer 2D graphics for fighting games.
